My gaze drifts toward the distant valley where the first faint glimmers of dragonfire appear against the night sky. They are close now. Very close. I imagine her among them. Seraphina. I remember the first time I heard whispers of her. The Madrigal girl who survived the tunnels. The girl who played music that could pull dragons from the sky. The girl Aurelion claimed as his mate. My fingers curl slowly into fists. She should have been mine. Not his. Never his. I could have taught her what that power truly meant. Could have guided it. Shaped it.

“So what about magical creatures are we learning about today?” She grins at me before dropping a heavy book down in front of me, “History of magic creatures!” I put my face in my hands and groan, Drago chuckles from where he’s found a comfortable spot to watch us, a book in his hand. He let out another deafening roar into the air, and it was such a sad song. My heart broke for him when he lowered his head and nudged at the lifeless body of Lorena. His snout was huge, almost half the size of her tiny body, but he was so gentle when he tried to nudge her awake. He knew she was gone, but there was a part of him hoping that he was wrong. I stepped forward with my hands up, and when my foot snapped a twig he startled, shooting a fireball at me. I jumped out of the way and shouted out, “Draco,

You are safe.” They saw the words register in the dragon’s eyes, their gazes locking. “It’s okay, my heart, my beautiful, beautiful mate,” Harry crooned. “You are safe with me.”
