He pushed the door open and the Scene he saw made him froze.

He recognised the lad. “He is the one! Come over here, brothers! Murai!” Jonah cried excitedly, running in quick steps to meet Murai. “Murai, is that you? I am Jonah, your brother.” He needed to be sure. “Yes, it’s me,” Murai said. Jonah exploded, “Murai! Murai! The son of Hugadah. Let us praise Zoe. Murai will conquer our enemies someday. Great Murai!” Jonah smiled and hugged him.

Jonah sat on the porch with Carl and a beer Reed had left on the railing and watched the pines go dark and thought about Chicago and Nashville and the road ahead and the specific weight of not knowing what came next. He thought it felt less heavy than it had three days ago. Reed came out onto the porch. Sat in the chair beside him.
