She walked out, her heels clicking against the marble floor in the same sharp, deliberate way they had when she arrived. The door clicked shut.
Neither Xander nor I moved for a full ten seconds.
"Xander," I said carefully.
"Not now, Lara."
"I'm not asking you to explain anything. I just..." I stopped, choosing my words. "Is it possible that it's true?"
He turned to look at me, and his green eyes were so controlled it unsettled me. "Casandra and I ended eleven months ago." He stopped. A muscle in his jaw moved. "It's possible."
