He stopped and looked at me.
"And outside those doors, there is an army of vampires and undead kings. If we step out, we die."
The pack watched me. They were waiting for a miracle. They were waiting for the Queen to pull a rabbit out of a hat.
But I didn't have a rabbit. I had a newborn baby and a husband buried alive.
"The Earth Bind," I said, my voice echoing in the small space. "How does it work, Mara?"
The Elder sat in the corner, mixing a poultice for a wounded scout. She looked old. Tired.
