Chapter 27: Not Quite Right…. Nova- More than two weeks had passed since the Gala, and I was now deep into wedding planning alongside Perra and Patrice. As we sat in the bridal boutique waiting for my wedding dress fitting, my thoughts drifted back to that night. Thankfully, Elizabeth Warner had made a full recovery. It turned out she reacted so violently to the drug because it contained almonds in its elixir. Drug dealers often mix in a compound called benzaldehyde to mask the bitter taste. I glare at him before I take a seat. I opened the almond chocolate bag that I secretly took from the fridge earlier and feast it. Just then, he extends his hand and takes some of my almonds. Slapping his hand away as I hold the opening tightly shut with both of my hands. "My almonds, go get your own," I say while eating them. He ate the one chocolate almond that he took. "I just wanted to taste." I say nothing but just sit back and eat my almonds. "Me too." Lianne also stretched her hands in front of my face. Can't she get her own almonds in the fridge? Don't wanna be rude, I gave her half of it. She said she likes chocolate too.

I stared at the almond candy in front of me and sighed. I had told myself. No more almond candies But yeah I couldn’t stop craving even when I kept telling myself that I could do it, I could stay a day without taking one. I sighed as I stared at it sitting temptingly on the desk, I shook my head—Fuck it. I snatched the candy, tore the wrapper and sighed as the chocolate hit my taste buds. I was addicted to candies, especially almond candy. I couldn’t stay a day without popping one into my mouth.

‘That means, he stayed here because he knew that I’ll look for him,’ Almond guessed, before she laughed like a madwoman. Before she goes out to meet the messenger of the letter, Almond went back to her room to get the wallet that she kept in her. Then she went out with it in her hand. As she walked out of the mansion, she saw the tall and handsome guy who’s looking at the flowers in their garden. Breathing out for a second, Almond fixed her hair before she approached the man. “Hey,” she called. Like in slow-motion, the gorgeous guy who can use his face to make a flower bloom in the middle of winter, turned his head towards her side.

Willow pushed the glass away. Kathy sniffed it. "It smells fine to me. We always use the same fresh almond to make it."

“Don’t mind me, it is very rare for someone of your class to buy anything for a common man.” Something about his statement made my ears perk up. Then I saw my distaste for almonds had morphed into a mortal fear. Maybe I shouldn’t have let it be known that I was allergic to almonds. I just didn’t like the way the almonds fell off the croissants when eating. Amanda smiled at me and dismissed herself. “Are you familiar with the city?” “I have been here for almost a month,” he said, grabbing the pastry in his hands and taking two bites before it disappeared in his bearded mouth.

"This is Pete, my boyfriend," Almond fidgeted. Both Kelly and I stared at her in shock. I tried a scoff, suppressing the thought that she had earlier called him her ex-boyfriend. Pete turned his golden eyes on me. "And who are you with, Almond?" My hands which were settled on my knees slowly began to clench tightly. I was sure I wasn't going to like Pete at all. Why was Almond fidgeting, why was she bleached white at the sight of him?
