I straightened up and started walking. Café Noir was about fifteen minutes on foot from my house. It has seven tables, all small, and a chalkboard menu written in the handwriting of someone who genuinely cares about coffee and has opinions about it but isn't going to make you feel bad about yours. The barista is a man named Pete who is not the same Pete as the wedding photographer but who has a similar quality of quiet competence that makes you feel like everything is going to be fine. Maya arrives at eight-oh-two.

SHANE I moved within the week to my new desk at the Synod Base where I am to begin to work on the new element they have been hiding. The coffee beans were sourced from Brazil. They didn't use fake goods and was fully authentic, but it was also very expensive. Of course, the people who could come here were all rich young masters, wealthy young ladies, and officials.

Sophia said from the other side, I'm sure she had a big smile on her face.
