Burned and Crowned

Burned and Crowned

Watching me give a speech on TV, my five-year-old asked, "Mommy, what's Ariadne?" "It's a special code I wrote, sweetheart. It's like a shield against the bad guys. It turns into butterflies that fly to girls who need help, whispering to them: 'No more tears, no more punishment, no more suffering.'" She nodded, half-getting it. I clasped her hand, and in a way, the hand of my eighteen-year-old self, and together we walked into a brighter world. The girl who once perished in a personal hell finally crafted her very own paradise.

Master of Justice, Slave to Desire

Master of Justice, Slave to Desire

It took me a second to get used to the darkness, but soon, I was able to make out their outline. Ravens! Occupying every inch of darkness, the black birds sat there. Leaning forward in anticipation... Waiting! “Bon appétit!” the shadow grinned--- and the forest became alive with hundreds--- no, thousands of them! Spilling out of the treeline like a living storm, they tore the skies open as they emerged from the shadows. Their wings beat the air into a frenzy, the sound deafening as they swirled above. They descended like a black wave, their wails so loud it shook the forest with their force. The two men screamed, their shots firing wildly into the dark as talons and beaks ripped at them.

The Songbird

The Songbird

“I sure as hell wouldn’t be fine if I walked through that not only once but twice. Take your time.” “There is no time.” She said as she swallowed really hard. “We need to drain the pond.” “I know.” He said softly. “Tom is calling it in right now.” “Okay.” She said as she looked back towards the water. “I have to ask, though. How many were there?” he asked. “Nineteen that I could see as I passed by. Abersom, they went to the other side of the water.” Sara said. “Holy hell.” He said as he looked at her. “Take your time, sweetheart. I have a feeling it is going to be a long night.”

To Hell and Back Again

To Hell and Back Again

It looks as normal as it could be. "I did it..." she whispered when the crow stopped squawking and fixed its gaze upon her. Karmina held the candle just a tad bit closer and noticed the blood that stained its dark feathers was also covered in black ink. She reached out cautiously and ran her fingers along its feathers, the black tainted blood smeared her fingers. As she smiled, the sense of relief washing over her, the crow's body expanded. First in its belly, then its head, until its body ruptured. She let out a scream as feathers, blood and bones splattered her and the inside of her hut.

Claimed by My Enemy Alpha Mate

Claimed by My Enemy Alpha Mate

the red-haired man sighed, "Then bring him in." I looked around bewilderedly. This was a closed space with no doors or windows. How could I bring Klaus in? But in the next moment, I understood. The "you" in the red-haired man's words didn't refer to me; it referred to the black crow. "Squawk!" The black crow circled in the air, its body rapidly expanding from a small bird into a huge falcon, its rough cry turning into a melodious song. I stared in astonishment at the crow's transformation, almost suspecting I was dreaming. Then, without looking back, the black falcon flew towards the wall, causing ripples to appear in the white wall as it collided. The falcon passed through the wall as if th

Grim Reaper's Bride

Grim Reaper's Bride

“You're forgetting that this could all just be a dream.” “Definitely impossible. I'm too grand for a single dream to contain,” he said, smiling with arrogance and coaxing the crow into flight. It cawed as it flew away. A single black feather spiraled after its wake. He caught it gently to run his fingers down the onyx tufts.

One Life, One Fate

One Life, One Fate

Darling: [Baby, when are you going to confront that arrogant heir? Leah: [After I get the last bit of money, we'll run away together.] Darling: [Timothy's a fool. He really thinks you love him so much.] The chat history ended with a message from my account. Leah: [Don't worry. Everything's going according to plan.] This meticulously fabricated record attempted to pin my death entirely on a dirty deal involving an unfair division of spoils. Looking at the phrase ‘everything's going according to plan’ in the screenshot, my soul trembled violently. The painful memory I had been desperately suppressing flooded my mind instantly.

She Runs with Wolves

She Runs with Wolves

One open eye was turned toward us, black and beady and forever unseeing. “And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,” I whispered to myself, unable to draw my own eyes away from that of the bird. “And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor. And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor,” I swallowed, “shall be lifted – nevermore.” “Is it a crow?” Kathrena whispered. I shook my head, dread settling like lead in my stomach. “It’s a raven.”

Swanne Lake
Such an exciting read so far! I am enjoying getting to know our main characters and discovering how their lives have come together while trying to anticipate what might happen next as each chapter is released. Having just finished the entirety of The Beta’s Daughter, this author is an amazing writer
Susan
A fantastic second novel, with a refreshingly different tone from the previous entry. The mythologies in this are very well developed and I am very excited to see how the story unfolds! The protagonist and her love interest and very engaging too and I am rooting hard for them!

DAUNTLESS

The coldness of the air from the outside enters the room and secures a creepy feeling on their skin giving them freakish goosebumps. Their attention was caught by the madness of the wind which make their eyes wide and their lips sealed in panic. For a moment, stillness breaks their conversation and filled the room with seeming drops of thin rain. Dave gets up from his sit to shut the windows but a big black bird stops his feet from walking. His feet were frozen for a minute when this 6- foot high black enormous crow appeared in the window giving them a devilish look from its red velvet eyes. Its stare can pierce the drops of rain and winning a fight from this weird creature would be impossib

HOUSE OF WITCHES

HOUSE OF WITCHES

It had a black thick leather cover and a golden seal on its top. “The Crow.” Lelia said, and a book with a bright red cover appeared in her palms. She turned to a page where the history and image of the crow was shown. Janeka got her mind back to why they were here and what they were going to defeat. “I see your mind is caught up with the black book.” Lelia said, chewing her lips. “That's what we want, isn't it?” Janeka said.
