“Graham and Zaine were right behind me. They couldn’t avoid it. Went down in the gravel.”
The water jets hum softly, obscenely normal.
“The race was red-flagged immediately.”
He inhales, then says it — clinical, detached, devastating.
“Romeo had massive trauma. Head. Neck. Chest.” A beat. “He died on the track.”
My chest tightens.
“I broke my collarbone,” he adds, almost as an afterthought. “Graham and Zaine were fine.”
