I couldn’t place it yet, but it clawed at my memory, stirring something deep inside. “I’m handling it,” the boss said smoothly. “Step outside.” “No,” she replied, moving closer. Her heels clicked against the floor. “I want to see her. Pathetic. I never imagined I’d get to see her like this.” Her words sliced through me. My breath caught. Who was she? Why did she sound like someone I knew? The woman turned toward the boss again. “Finish your business, then hurry. We have what we need to bring Shane to his knees.”
