Kane handed me a tablet. On the screen was a detailed map of James’s territories.
“Donna Gerald, this is the first region you’ll be taking over.”
I took the tablet, running my fingers across the land that had once cost me everything.
“No,” I said, looking up at him. “This isn’t taking over. This is reclaiming.”
Xavier’s fever eventually broke, but he remained silent. He didn’t talk or play. He just sat by the window, hugging his knees, staring into the distance.
