“We’ll keep watch, okay? Daddy will come home soon.” But as the minutes stretched into an hour, fatigue settled in. The sun blazed hotter, and the shimmering water looked more inviting. “I just want to dip my feet,” Pretty murmured, edging toward the pool. “Be careful,” Beauty pleaded. “Don’t go close.” Pretty slid off her sandals and dipped her toes, giggling as the coolness washed over her burning skin. “It feels nice…” she said, smiling weakly for the first time all day. Penelope, as I read on her badge, said. She had pretty hazel eyes, and I could swear her natural hair was brunette. Her teeth seemed artificial, too, and from her statement, I could tell she had difficulty pronouncing some words. Summer waved the book she had snatched from me and said. "She's not anything like us and will never be. She belongs to the trash." I scowled and yanked the book out of her hand. "I'll be waiting for you in the car if you'll excuse me," I gave her a tight-lipped smile and walked away.

Ian I watched from my seat as Summer walked up to the podium in the Charlotte Art Museum, fidgeting with her dress. What a dress it was, too. Long, deep burgundy, and a slip-satin that hugged her hips and waist. The neckline swept low, peeking at the swell of her breasts. The tone complimented her skin, especially when she blushed, and it was really damn difficult watching her move in that thing when all I could think about was getting it off her.

There it was; he found and had manipulated her weak spot. “Am I not pretty, Mark?” Charlotte looked up at him. “Let me take a closer look.” Mark walked over, clasping her chin with his big hand, looking left and right. “You’re pretty, very pretty.” Charlotte smiled and looked at Summer with a triumphant expression. “You heard that, Mommy? Mark says I am pretty.” “Yeah, you are pretty.” Summer pinched her cheek gently. How the hell did she need to feel pretty at this young age? Her eyes met his inadvertently, and she quickly looked away.
