Whoever sent it had used the staff as their shield—or perhaps the writer was one of them. The corridors leading to the back halls smelled faintly of smoke and starch, the lingering traces of laundry, cooking, and scrubbed floors. She had walked these passages as a child, trailing after her nursemaids, but now she felt like an intruder. Servants were not used to seeing their princess wandering these halls alone at night. She caught sight of two young maids whispering near the laundry doors. When they saw her, they dropped into quick bows, faces paling. “Princess,” one stammered.

She laughed a good bit at that point. I opened the bag, looking at a black sparkly dress with a low sweetheart neckline and floor-length tulle princess dress skirt. I blinked a bit, “Well, it’s obvious someone who DOESN’T know me sent this. Like… at least it’s black?” I scrunch my nose up, “Why a princess skirt? How much fabric is there? I mean I hoped it was leather with how heavy this bag was.” I went and hung up the dress, and took a deep breath. I imagined the changes I wanted to see in the dress. Less tulle, sleeker, corseted waist, I liked the neckline but lining it with lines of the triple moon symbol embroidered in silver.

Dorian pondered, glancing towards the princess. Darkous nodded, staring down at Elika as he spoke. “Yes, it appears so.” The princess became self-conscious as she tightened her hold on the blanket, taking short rasping breaths. She listened silently to their exchange, dreading what would come once their attention shifted towards her. Darkous scanned the basement, moving away from Elika as he searched the boxes. He pushed the dust cardboard aside, eventually opening one that labelled ‘clothes’. She watched in silence as he pulled out a place blue dress with a high neckline, flinging it towards her. The dress landed of the floor in front of the princess; her movements hesitant as she reached d

The sight in front of me makes my eyes wide. The princess, fast asleep on my couch. Why isn’t she in her own room? I quietly make my way across the room. I don’t want to wake her, but what’s she doing here? Well, she can’t sleep on the couch; she’s much too good for that.

I made a mental note to complement cook when I saw her. Sometime between my going to sleep and my waking up a pair of jeans and an Irish cable-knit sweater found their way to the chair by the bed. I tried them on. They were a perfect fit. A knock at the door caught my attention in time to see a note slipped under it. It was from Dresser. My presence was requested in the fitting parlor at my earliest convenience. I had no idea where the fitting parlor was, but since I already felt like I belonged to the castle, I had no problem stopping the staff to ask directions.

At least for my brother's sake. Liar, liar, pants on fire. A voice jeers in my head. You want her, that's why. You desire her. We manage to climb up the spiral staircase, with Lisa leaning heavily on me, and locate her room. I wrench open the door, and Lisa sighs. "Finally!" "Yeah, right." I guide her to her neatly made up bed, and she eases into the coffee colored duvet and glances around. "I know I hit my head really hard but, this room wasn't like this before I left. I had some clothes spilling out of my closet…" She motions to the closet, which has absolutely no clothes spilling out of it and is perfectly shut.

And the crimson diamond necklace—the one she had admired from afar, worth billions—he bought it without blinking, delivered it to the Russo estate as if it were nothing but a trinket, something for her fingers to toy with when she grew restless. Finally, the night arrived. The engagement night. Adrian, in a bespoke suit cut sharp enough to draw blood, strode down the corridor with a bouquet in his hand, his chest tight with anticipation. Days without seeing her had been hell. He needed to see her. Needed her eyes on him again. He pushed open the door to the bridal suite— And froze. Not Isabella . Elena. She stood in a snow-white gown, the crimson diamond blazing against her throat. Adrian’s

"You’ve been lied to your whole life, Princess. Told that if you were good, and dutiful, and wore the right dress, you’d be happy. Look where that got you." I walked to the kitchen counter and leaned against it, crossing my arms. "Jaxson is a fool. A blind, weak fool. If you were mine, I wouldn't have rejected you for some beta trash like Chloe." Her eyes widened. "If I were yours?" "Hypothetically," I smirked, though there was nothing hypothetical about the heat in my blood. "If you were mine, I would have put a collar on you. A nice one. Maybe diamond-encrusted. And I would have dared anyone in that pack to touch a single hair on your head."

Thinking of the King fighting for his life snapped him back to the present and his mission. He returned to the hall and opened the next door along, it is the princess’s rooms. She had a private dressing room that lead into her bedroom, walk in closet and bathroom. Jay sensed they were empty even before he did a quick search. The last door was a guest bedroom with sitting room and bathroom, smaller than the other but still nice and all empty.
