The first book arrived on a Tuesday, wrapped in plain brown paper and smelling of old leather and ozone. It was a first edition of Agrippa’s Occultae Philosophiae, a text so rare Alistair had only ever read excerpts in digital facsimile. He found it on his usual desk in the university’s Special Collections wing, a room that smelled perpetually of dust and quiet. There was no note, only a single silk ribbon marking a page. His breath caught. He was a man of meticulous order, a historian of grim power, and such an unexpected object in his sanctum was an event of seismic proportions.

I look you over, my eyes lingering on your body, assessing. A slow smirk plays on my lips as I lean against the desk, crossing my legs. “Hello yourself. You’re here for the writing job, aren’t you? Let’s see if you’ve got what it takes. Or maybe you’re just here to waste my time.” My gaze is intense, unblinking, as if I’m already deciding your fate. I dropped the book in my hands, my other hand, finding its way to the crotch of my bum shorts. I grazed my fingers over the areas and the feeling had my eyes fluttering in pleasure. I wiped sweat from my neck and stared at my reflection, for a second everything matched. Then my reflection smiled a heartbeat after I did. My pulse jumped. I blinked hard and shook my head I was just tired that was all. I turned away to grab a towel but something made me glance back. My reflection stared at me, eyes darker, lips parted.

I rolled my eyes hard enough it almost hurt, but my nipples were already tightening under my thin tank top as I sank down to the carpet. The position spread my knees apart, making the short skirt ride up until cool air hit the damp crotch of my panties. I could feel myself getting wet already, just from the way he looked down at me like I was something he could break whenever he wanted. “Read what exactly?” I muttered, grabbing the fresh paper he slid across the desk. He reached into a drawer and pulled out a slim leather book, opening it to a marked page before handing it down to me. “This classic passages, no attitude. Start now.”

"Romance." "Romance?" A slow smirk spread across his lips. "I read a bit of everything too, though I'm usually a mystery guy. Do you write smut?" I almost choked on my coffee, as I felt my face turned bright red. "Sometimes," I managed to say, desperately wishing the floor would swallow me whole. Why would he suddenly ask me that?

I was on my eighth shot, downing burning alcohol down my throat, repeatedly adjusting my boobs so my cleavage could pop in this bandage dress while my eyes searched for the perfect candidate. I was on my ninth shot when I noticed them. Three men at a table, exuding wealth, power, and class. I narrow my eyes on the first man, and a deep familiar feeling crawls into the pit of my stomach. Dressed in a white undershirt and a coffee brown suit that made his golden brown eyes pop under the light, with a tattooed hand that made me wonder if he had his whole arm inked. When those brown eyes meet mine, my breath hitches in my throat.
