The morning sun barely penetrated the haze of dust and decay that hung over the desolate campus. Shadows danced across the rubble-strewn ground as the tension in the air thickened. The group—Joseph, Luke, Mira, Collins, Jeff, Favour, and Sarah—stood trapped in a suffocating circle of fear. Akin stood at the center, flanked by his sentient zombie and a horde of undead, their vacant, lifeless eyes trained on their prey.

AVA'S POV “Just how many broken people were in this pack? I should leave him alone with his problem, I mean, even I have mine to solve.” I muttered, just wanting to leave quickly and quietly without disturbing him. But his next words made me stop dead in my tracks. “Sage...” he called out again. Lifting his head, his eyes suddenly snapped in my direction. It was Kaiden. But there was something about him that was too scary. His beautiful brown eyes were gone, it was replaced with a blood red color, fully highlighted under the full moon.

Tobe screams and Ryder brings his rifle up. He pulls the trigger, and a zombie drops, but another quickly takes his place. There are dozens of them, and the four of us are no match, especially since I barely know how to shoot, and Tobe still doesn't have a weapon.

Briggs grunted as his boots hit the road. He flexed his newly upgraded level-two muscles, a sudden orange glow illuminating the dark fabric of his uniform. With a low grunt, he slammed his palms together, channeling his newly enhanced element. A concentrated jet of bright, high-temperature flame erupted from his hands, instantly melting the ice on the road and engulfing a cluster of rushing zombies. The infected collapsed into ash before they could even reach the vehicle. Beside him, Jolie’s vines whipped out of her sleeves like green lightning, piercing through the foreheads of three zombies simultaneously and tossing their bodies into the snow.

"How dare you—" "Arrgh!" The screams had begun. Neratomay leaped from their seats as Hybrids swarmed rapidly into the room. They did not have the speed of the Vampire, but the rapid way in which they attacked allowed them to take out the closest Vampires. The Hybrids knew what they were doing. They lopped off heads with swiping claws that held razor sharp talons. They bit through throats and severed spinal cords causing heads to fall limply before the Vampire turned to dust. Seven or eight Omicrons entered the hall and within seconds had killed half a dozen Vampires. Some Vampires had quickly flashed away but not the Elders. They were snarling and joining the fight.
