(Penelope)

I tucked my empty plate away and stood to leave when a heavy hand clasped my shoulder.

“Leaving so soon?”

I turned to face Alpha Reginald, one of the oldest members of the council. His silver hair slicked back against his scalp. His watery blue eyes raked over me appreciatively, lingering too long on places they shouldn’t.

“Council business calls,” I replied coolly, stepping back to break his contact.

“Surely you have time for one drink?” He produced a crystal glass of ruby-red wine, extending it toward me. His yellowed smile stretched across his face. “A toast to our new partnership against these mutant threats.”

My instinct screamed to decline, but pack politics demanded certain courtesies. Reginald controlled three southern hunting grounds that Iron Mountain needed access to.

“One quick drink,” I conceded reluctantly.

He pressed the glass into my hand, his fingers lingering against mine unpleasantly. “Penelope, I’ve always admired your beauty and leadership, as well as a

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 125: Growing Urgency

Penelope’s POVI finished my morning run, sweat cooling on my skin. The physical exertion helped quiet my racing thoughts, but couldn’t completely erase yesterday’s confusion. Dominic’s defense of my program had cracked something inside my chest.I pushed through the pack house front door, heading straight for the kitchen where coffee waited. My phone sat on the counter beside the machine, displaying seven missed calls from Edward. The notification screen showed his messages: “Call me back.”“Where are you?”“We need to talk.”The persistent contact made my stomach turn. When had Edward’s attention started feeling suffocating rather than caring?I poured coffee into my favorite mug, savoring the rich smell as steam rose between my fingers. Through the kitchen window, pack members headed to their morning duties, unburdened. How I envied their simplicity.“Mommy!” Debbie burst through the doorway wearing her Rainbow Claw training uniform, red curls bouncing like springs. “You’re back! I

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 124: The Phone Call

Kelsey’s POVThe sitting room door slammed so hard the windows rattled in their frames. I smoothed my maternity dress and turned to face Sophia, whose features were twisted into frustration at her son’s dramatic exit.“He’ll come around,” I said softly, placing both hands protectively over my rounded belly. “The DNA results were overwhelming for him. He just needs time to process everything that’s happened.”Sophia paced across the rug, her heels clicking against the hardwood floor. “Time is exactly what we don’t have, Kelsey. Every day that passes is another day that child grows up believing lies about her parentage.”“Dominic won’t let this drag on forever,” I assured her, though privately I wondered if that was true. His reaction to learning about Debbie had been explosive—joy mixed with sadness at being denied five years of fatherhood.“My son has always been too honorable for his own good,” Sophia continued. “He’ll waste weeks agonizing over the proper approach instead of simply c

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 123: Outing the Secret

Dominic’s POVI drove through Darkwood territory with my hands gripping the steering wheel. The meeting with Penelope kept replaying in my head. The way she’d looked at me when I defended her. For just a moment, her walls had come down, but then her phone had chimed and the moment was gone.Debbie’s face haunted me. My daughter. My own flesh and blood, and she had no idea who I really was.The pack house appeared through the trees. I parked and walked toward the front entrance, dreading what waited inside. I’d been avoiding my mother since getting the DNA results. She’d been asking about them constantly, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth. If she knew Debbie was mine, she’d demand immediate action. She’d want me to march straight to Iron Mountain territory and claim my parental rights. The mess that would create wasn’t something I was ready to handle. But as I opened the front door, raised voices carried from the sitting room. My mother’s sharp tone mixed with Kelsey’s

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 122: The Final Warning

Penelope’s POV“The inspection is complete,” I announced, trying to keep my voice steady despite the chaos in my chest. “Thank you for the equipment donation.”“Actually, Alpha Dominic,” Nora said, stepping closer to him with that simpering smile, “I was hoping we could discuss something more personal.”My stomach clenched. Here it comes. My hands started to shake slightly. Three days of dealing with resistant women, questioning my authority, challenging every decision I made.Nora had been among the worst of them, constantly undermining me in front of the other trainees. And now she was practically throwing herself at Dominic right in front of everyone. My father’s jaw was tight. “This is neither the time nor place—”“Oh, I think it’s the perfect time,” Nora interrupted, moving even closer to Dominic. Her voice took on a flirtatious tone that made my skin crawl. “After all, when does a woman get the chance to meet such a distinguished Alpha?”“Nora, that’s enough,” I said firmly.Agai

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 121: A Guided Tour

Dominic's povThe moment we stepped inside the training facility, the noise hit me. Nearly thirty women engaged in various exercises, their voices mixing with the sound of wooden weapons clashing and feet moving on practice mats. The space was huge and well-designed, with high ceilings and excellent lighting.“This is the main training floor,” Penelope said in her professional voice. “We can accommodate multiple exercise groups simultaneously.”But I wasn’t really listening to her words. Her scent was overwhelming in the enclosed space. Pine and vanilla mixed with something wild and fierce that made my wolf pace frantically in my mind. The awakened bloodline had changed her, made her more than she’d been before.“Ice Cream Uncle,” Debbie said, tugging on my hand, “look at all the weapons!”She pointed toward an impressive display along the far wall. Swords, bows, daggers, and modern tactical equipment. Everything looked professional grade, not training toys.“Very impressive,” I said,

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 120: The Excitement of a Child

Dominic’s POV“Debbie, slow down,” Nathan called as his granddaughter dragged me toward the training facility. His voice carried a warning, but Debbie was too excited to notice.“You have to see the inside, Ice Cream Uncle,” she chattered. “Mommy made everything perfect for training. There’s weapon racks and practice mats and even a strategy room!”Nathan moved to walk beside us. “Debbie, maybe we should—”“Oh! And there’s this really cool obstacle course that’s almost finished,” Debbie continued, completely oblivious to the tension. “Mommy says it’ll help with agility training.”Through the large windows, I could see women training inside. Their movements were coordinated and skilled, but more importantly, I could see Penelope moving among them like a general commanding troops.“Is your mother in there now?” I asked.“Uh-huh,” Debbie nodded enthusiastically. “She’s always here these days. Grandma says she works too much, but mommy says the program is too important to do halfway.”Nath
