Brandon sighed. “I'll return sir his money and then we both can start afresh somewhere far away,” said Brandon. Brooklyn didn’t answer, suddenly she felt her heart constricting at the thought of going somewhere far away. She had no idea why the thought caused her so much pain. It felt as if she was leaving someone very dear to her.
“What about Freddie Miller’s men? Wouldn’t they harass us?” Asked Brooklyn staring at her brother with scared eyes.
“When they realize that we really don’t have any money, they’ll leave us alone. I think the cops have arrested the whole lot of them already,” said Brandon. Brooklyn sighed. It was useless to make Brandon see any sense. He had always been stubborn and would do what he thought was best.
