Chapter 2

"Nandito na si Attorney Christine, Ma'am!" Her maid shouted to her office.

Nang bigyan ako ng go-signal ng maid nila ay ngumiti ako rito at pumasok sa office niya. Pugto man ang aking mga mata ngunit pinilit ko pa ring ngumiti nang makita si Jelsey. That smile faded when I saw a man sitting in a couch in front of Jelsey's desk.

I quickly changed my facade as I saw him. "What are you doing here?" I said in a deadpan face while asking the man. Nakalimutan ko na ngang batiin ng 'good morning' si Jelsey.

"Is there no hello kiss from you, Love?" He said, leering. "Para namang wala tayong pinagsamahan niyan." Ngumiti ito sa akin. Desente na ang hitsura nito kumpara sa huli kong kita sa kaniya.

He seemed very rich, but I only don't care. "Call me Attorney Villeza," Despite all the pain that I got from him three years ago, I decided to make this very professional. "What is your name?" I asked even if I already knew his goddamn name.

He smirked, "Anthony Sandoval, Atty. Villeza." He spat with enthusiasm.

Jelsey chuckled. "Motherfvcker na pala ang tawag mo sa boyfriend mo----!"

"He was my ex-boyfriend, Jelsey." Pinagdiinan ko talaga 'yon sa kaniya. "Bakit nga 'yan nandito?"

"Well, he will be your next client. No pieces of evidence yet so he's free." Jelsey smiled. "He needs an attorney, Christine."

"Hell no!" Napatingin agad ako kay Anthony. "Bakit ko naman dedepensahan 'yang gagong 'yan? Mukha naman talagang mamamatay-tao! Sipain ko pa 'yan eh."

Anthony chuckled. "That's below the belt." He doesn't seem to be offended. Magaling lang mang-asar.

"Do you want me to cut that thing below your belt?" I rolled my eyes.

"If it means of you holding my dick again, then go on." Ngumisi itong muli at kumindat pa. Argh, nakakadiri ang puta!

"Fuck you, Anthony!" I swore while pointing my middle finger at him.

"Fuck me, huh?" He still kept his cool. "When, where, and how?"

"Grr!" I stood up and looked at Jelsey with my gritting teeth. "I will not defend this complete asshole!"

"Let me rephrase that." Napatingin ako kay Anthony na naglabas ng isang black briefcase. My eyes widened when I saw that it was full of money. Napatingin ako sa mukha niyang nakatingin sa akin. Gwapo nga ngunit 'di mapagkakailang gago. "Just defend me, Christine. Hindi totoo ang pinararatang nila sa'kin. I'll plea not guilty so please. . . I need you."

I could see the sincerity in his eyes. Nang tumingin ako kay Jelsey, gano'n na lang din ang tingin niya sa akin. "Think of your brother, Christine."

Muling pumasok sa aking isipan ang aking kapatid na si Jayron. As if on cue, my mom texted me and so I read it in my mind. "Nandito na ako sa hospital pagka-text mo pa lang sa akin kanina, Anak. Stable na ang lagay ni Jayron sa ngayon. . . pero lumala ang kalagayan niya."

Muling tumulo ang mga luha ko habang mahigpit ang aking pagkakahawak sa aking telepono. Napatingin ako sa sandamakmak na perang nakahain sa aking harapan. Napatingin din ako kay Jelsey.

Napatingin din ako kay Anthony.

Kinuha ko ang briefcase na may pera mula kay Anthony. I composed myself and cleared my throat.
