When the first reconnaissance squad returned to the rebel stronghold, the remains of the Syndicate's command post were still smouldering. Though exhaustion hung over the survivors like a thick shroud, there was no denying the light of optimism in their eyes. They had delivered a blow that actually wounded their oppressors for the first time. However, beneath the triumphant exterior was the solemn recognition of everything that had been lost.
Gathering the Pieces
Surrounded by maps, reports, and the exhausted faces of his closest comrades, Kael stood in the middle of the war room. Elara was present, her face white with exhaustion from breaking through the Syndicate's defences. Zara's arm was in a homemade sling as she rested on the table. Lyra looked around the room, injured but determined.
"We must evaluate the harm on both sides," Kael said. He spoke steadily, but it was clear that he was a leader. What infrastructure of the Syndicate remains? How are we doing?
Their most trustworthy
