Chapter 28: Am I the wrong one?

I walked into the dining room with Harper. She took a seat, and I took mine.

“You two wasted an eternity outside,” Mrs. Evelyn’s voice sliced through the room—calm and sweet.

“We’re sorry about that,” I managed to say, even though I didn’t want to.

“I hope you’re okay?” Damien’s voice struck me—cold and authoritative.

I swallowed hard, though there was nothing to swallow, and nodded. I picked up my spoon to eat, but I felt a piercing gaze fixed on me.

I looked up and my eyes landed on Louis. Even though he was eating, he couldn’t take his eyes off me.

This time, I looked away immediately. I didn’t want anyone jumping to negative conclusions again.

Of course, I’m not okay.

Of course, I want to grab him by the neck and tear the truth out of him. I’m sure he’s Louis. He has to be. But then… why is he pretending he isn’t?

Or am I the one who’s mistaken? No—it’s definitely him. So why is he acting so nonchalant, so carefree? He doesn’t even seem confused. He

Chapter 55: Why are you here?He turned again, but didn’t even make it to the door before it suddenly flew open, revealing someone.“Who co—?” My words died on my lips when my eyes landed on her.Emma?I blinked, almost chuckling in disbelief. Maybe I was seeing things—because there’s no way Emma could be here. What on earth would she be doing in this place? Her eyes widened instantly. She had seen and recognized me. Judging by the shock on her face, she was even more stunned than I was.“Wh—” She tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat. She was too shocked to say anything.Me? I just stood there, frozen, speechless.“It seems you two know each other. Makes sense—if you’re Damien’s beta and his brother, then of course you should,” Logan’s voice cut through the thick silence, snapping the tension in the room. That was when I finally found my voice. “Yes, we do. I should be on my way now,” I said, my tone light, masking my eagerness to escape the awkwardness choking the air.

Chapter 54: Prove Yourself Louis POV….The air was thick with tension, and the darkness swallowed the entire room. It was small—barely enough space to move around.I sat on a long bench, waiting for the boss to arrive. I had heard he never showed up to meetings on time, but I prayed he would make an exception this time.“Alpha Logan.”I’d heard so much about him—deadly things. That alone was proof he was the right man for this job. But the most important reason? He hated Damien with a passion. That hatred was likely the only reason he agreed to honor my invitation.I couldn’t wait to see him—to finally lay eyes on the man I’d only heard whispers about. I had never met him before, and this was the perfect opportunity.I was ready to wait for hours, even the entire day, if that’s what it took.Still deep in thought, the door creaked open. I jumped to my feet, heart racing. Was it him? I realized I wasn’t expecting him so soon.My eyes fixed on the door, my chest tight with anticipa

Chapter 53: I promiseDamien POV….I left her room, my mind spinning with thoughts—none more troubling than the sudden change in her demeanor. One minute, she was excited about the phone, and the next, she went cold.“I hate that I can’t read her thoughts anymore,” I muttered in frustration. “It’s another damn sign that I’m growing weaker.”Now that I’ve lost access to her mind, how do I really know how she feels about me? Was she starting to love me? I doubt it. There’s no sign—nothing at all—to suggest that. But I know what I must do. I’ll keep trying until she finally gives in. I won’t leave her with a choice. I’ll make her fall so hard she won’t be able to breathe without me. That’s a promise.A sly smile crept across my lips as the thoughts settled in my head. All I have to do is play my part, and everything will fall into place.I walked into my room and slammed the door shut behind me. Then I tossed myself on the bed and immediately pulled out my phone, typing into Google: “W

Chapter 52: You bought?I sat on my bed, still drowning in shame. The last thing I ever expected was to be caught—by them—and in such an embarrassing way. The image of me falling flat like a fool replayed in my mind, and I wished the ground would just open up and swallow me whole. I really did.The AC was on, but it wasn’t doing a thing to cool me down. Of course—it never works when I’m anxious. I’ve accepted that as my curse. My mind kept racing. How were the men going to look at me now? The thought alone made my skin crawl. “Oh, you eavesdropper,” I imagined Damien sneering, and my heart nearly exploded from mortification. How am I even supposed to face them now? It’s going to be impossible. I’m sure they mocked me the moment I left. The way they looked at me… God! I should’ve just stayed in my room. But no, I had to let curiosity win, and now I’m paying the price. The worst part? I didn’t even hear anything. Not a single sound came from that room. It was like no one was in there. I

Chapter 51: SillyI didn’t expect it, but as soon as the door swung open, someone tumbled into the room. The thud from the fall was heavy—like a log of wood crashing to the floor. I jumped back, startled, trying to process what had just happened right before my eyes.Regaining a bit of composure, I leaned forward for a closer look at whoever had been eavesdropping on our conversation.“Anna?” I gasped. “Oh no… Did she hear anything?”There was shame in her eyes as she slowly rose from the floor. I watched as she dusted off her gown out of sheer embarrassment. The room was spotless—no dirt on her dress—yet she kept brushing herself off, as if it would hide her awkwardness.“Uhm… I was passing by and…” she mumbled, scratching her hair with her left hand. Her face said it all—shy, embarrassed, and caught red-handed.I wanted to be angry at her for eavesdropping. More than that, I was nervous. What if she really heard everything? But I couldn’t stay mad. Her reaction was so adorably f

Chapter 50: FINAL CHOICEAnna’s POV…I sat on my bed, my patience wearing thin. I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong. The way Damien had dragged Louis out of the room—there was just something off about it. Something I couldn’t quite place.I really wanted to see what was going on. I needed to know what was happening between the two brothers. I didn’t want to be left in the dark. I hate being left in the dark. And the worst part? I was almost certain something was wrong.I shot up from the bed in a rush. I wasn’t going to stay confined in here, replaying a thousand imaginary scenarios in my head, when I could just go and find out the truth myself. I needed to get to the root of it—and I needed to do it now.Slipping my tired legs into my squeaky bedroom slippers, I got ready to poke my nose into whatever drama was unfolding between the brothers. My steps were slow and calculated as I slid quietly out of the room.I didn’t want to alert anyone—not even the walls tha
