EMILY

I sat still on the couch, hugging myself as if that could chase away the feeling of fear that wouldn’t stop crawling over my skin. The dark had a way of making your thoughts louder, your heart beating faster, and your mind believing anything was possible.

The entire house was dead silent, apart from the faint ticking of the wall clock. And then, snap.

The power cut off completely.

I jumped to my feet. “Kent?”

He was already up, phone in one hand, his other hand reaching for the drawer where he kept a flashlight. “It’s the whole street,” he said, peeking out the window. “It’s not just here.”

I swallowed hard, staring at the dark window. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah,” he nodded. “Houses across the street are out too, it’s probably the fuse. Maybe the transformer blew or something.”

“Or maybe…” My voice trailed off.

“Don’t,” Kent cut in sharply, “Don’t jump to conclusions. This might not be about you. Things break, Emily.”

But deep down, I wasn’t sure I believed that.

The air felt thicke

KENT I didn’t know how many days had passed since they threw me down here. Time felt strange in this place. There was no sunlight, no sound except for the dripping water and the rats that sometimes ran across the floor. The room — no, the cell — was cold, damp, and smelled of metal and dirt. My hands were sore from trying to pull the chains off the wall. My throat burned, dry from lack of water and food. And Emily… Emily’s face haunted me. Was she still alive? Were they hurting her? Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her. And it kept me breathing.A noise broke the silence. The sound of keys turning in the lock, my head shot up. The heavy door creaked open, and light from a small torch fell across the floor. It was her again — the young woman who brought food. She didn’t say much. Just came, dropped the plate, and left. But today, she leaned by the door longer than usual.“Micheala,” I said in a rough and weak voice. I didn't need anyone to tell me who exactly she was. I remembered h

EMILY I couldn't breathe too comfortably anymore. Not because I was with Romenetti as an acting girlfriend, but the fact that the environment wasn't the kind I was used to. Romenetti was doing so well to keep up with the act, like we were actual lovers. His friend on the other hand, has been silently watching me ever since, like we've known from somewhere or something. As much as I didn't want him to feel too comfortable staring at me that way, I couldn't get myself to look at Romenetti.Even though he noticed how Victor was staring, he didn't seem to care a bit. I made it obvious that I wasn't comfortable here anymore. Rather than finding a better solution, Matteo Romenetti grabbed my hand to a corner, staring at me with this look that gave me the death vibes.“What's wrong with you?” He asked. “I don't feel comfortable here anymore,” I explained. “Why?” he queried. “Met someone you know?”“If I did, I would have raised an alarm already. I just don't like this place, that's all.”

MATTEO Seeing her face was like a slap to my face. I had mentally concluded she was completely out of reach. I hated the fact that I couldn't do way more than I already have to her. I hated that she was the only person that made me feel less aggressive to my prey. She was different, and I didn't know why.As if that wasn't enough, she was ready to offer herself as my sex slave? At first it felt stupid, but then… I found myself replaying those events over and over in my head.“What… did you just say?”“Let me be your slave instead.” She repeated, slightly trembling. “No, the other one.”She hesitated.“Say it,” I demanded.“Let… me be… your sex slave.”If I really wanted to use her, I would have done that a long time ago without seeking her permission. I wasn't like other Mafia who think jumping from one lady or the other was what makes them what they are.I have girls, ladies, women, both single and married who are dying to have me on their bed, but no, I wasn't into that. At least

EMILY I thought everything was over. In fact, I thought the incident of yesterday was dead, little did I know nothing dies off to someone like Matteo Romenetti. Two men aggressively walked into the room I laid, forcefully dragging me to my feet. If I had thought the sharp pain at my back was gone, they just brought it to life.I winced, but didn't shout.Initially, I thought I'd first be dragged to Matteo's office or room, or something. But the moment I found myself out of the mansion, I knew that monster had ordered my death sentence."Where are you taking me to?!" I screamed. "Where are you taking me to?!" But none of them said a word to me.A van was waiting outside, and so were the men who were dragging me. Just as we got to the van, I screamed a big “wait!”. They stopped, and looked at me, as if I had interrupted the most important moment of their lives.“Please, don't take me to him.” I pleaded.“Shut up!” One of the men yelled. “If you really love your precious life, then you

EMILY I was folding the sheets on my bed when a knock came, and then the door opened slowly. Krystal sat up, while I stood straight, my head turned fast, expecting Matteo — but it wasn’t him. I don't know why I expected him, maybe I was unconsciously thinking about him. I doubt it.It was the young lady. The same one who had served me food when I first arrived, the same one who stood by the door, staring at me with those cold looking eyes that somehow terrified me.She stood in the doorway without saying a word at first. Her face looked calm. But I knew so well she wasn't the calm type of person.“Get dressed,” she said, her eyes locked on mine. “I want to show you something.”“Now?” I asked, confused.“Yes. Now.”Krystal and I exchanged a look.“Do I get to ask where we’re going?” I asked.“You’ll see,” she replied, and then turned and walked out.I didn’t say anything. I looked at Krystal again, she shrugged her shoulders. I left what I was doing and quickly followed her down the h

EMILY It's been two days since Matteo had me under custody. Two days, and I couldn't tell if Kent was dead or not. I had silently sneaked to the cell they had kept me the first time I was kidnapped, yet, Kent was nowhere to be found. Asking was the least thing I wanted to do, or they'd suspect me.I wanted to accept the fact that something wrong had happened to him, but I couldn't bring myself to. Has he eaten since then? Will he be starving or thirsty?“Please, stay alive for me.” I silently prayed. My stay with the other maid was something I couldn't bring myself to talk about. Almost everyone hated me for some reasons best known to them. Some groups didn't have issues with me, but those who had, the way they looked at me was just enough to tell how much they hated me.I did my best to ignore them. Krystal warned me not to have any issue with neither of them, or things would turn out way different from what I had expected. “Why do they hate me?” I asked Krystal who was filing her
