EMILY

I thought everything was over. In fact, I thought the incident of yesterday was dead, little did I know nothing dies off to someone like Matteo Romenetti. Two men aggressively walked into the room I laid, forcefully dragging me to my feet. If I had thought the sharp pain at my back was gone, they just brought it to life.

I winced, but didn't shout.

Initially, I thought I'd first be dragged to Matteo's office or room, or something. But the moment I found myself out of the mansion, I knew that monster had ordered my death sentence.

"Where are you taking me to?!" I screamed. "Where are you taking me to?!" But none of them said a word to me.

A van was waiting outside, and so were the men who were dragging me. Just as we got to the van, I screamed a big “wait!”. They stopped, and looked at me, as if I had interrupted the most important moment of their lives.

“Please, don't take me to him.” I pleaded.

“Shut up!” One of the men yelled. “If you really love your precious life, then you

MATTEOI was pacing back and forth in my office, my hands were clenched so tight that my knuckles turned white. The whole event hasn't left my mind, they kept burning like it was all happening right now. And for a thousand reasons, I couldn't get myself let go. Every second felt like a year to me. I needed answers. I needed action. Then my phone buzzed on the desk. I grabbed it so fast I almost dropped it.“Boss, we found it,” my tech guy said on the other end. His voice sounded nervous, like he knew how much this meant to me. “Pedro’s warehouse. We have the exact location.”A dark grin formed on my face. “Send me the address. Now.”The message came through within seconds. I didn’t waste time. I stormed out of the office and shouted down the hallway. “Dominic! Gather the men. We move now!”Dominic came running, looking worried. “Boss, slow down for a second, let me and the boys handle it. Please, I’ll take the men. You stay here where it’s safe.”I stopped and glared at him. “Stay her

GINAI didn’t waste any more time. I picked up my phone and quickly dialed Detective Lee’s number. The line rang for a few seconds before he answered.“Gina?” His voice sounded like he already knew something was wrong.“Yes, sir. It’s about Emily Thompson,” I said, "She's been missing for a month now."There was silence for a moment on his end. Then, his tone changed. “Why are you only calling me now? You should have informed me earlier!”“I’m sorry,” I said quickly. “I thought the department was doing all they could. But nothing is moving. I need your help, Detective Lee. Please.”He let out a heavy sigh. “Alright. I’ll start looking into it right away. Where can we meet?”“There’s a restaurant near my place. Can we meet there tonight?”“Fine,” he said. “Text me the address. I’ll be there.”When I ended the call, I realized Stephanie had been standing nearby, listening the whole time.“Is this about Aunt Emi?” she asked softly.I nodded. “Yes. But don’t worry, I’ve spoken to Detectiv

GINAI walked into the police department for what felt like the hundredth time. My legs were tired from coming here, but I kept showing up. I had to. Someone had to keep asking, even if the answers never changed. The same officers were at their desks, typing on computers or talking on their radios. Some glanced at me, that sad, tired look. The one that said “Poor girl, she’s still hoping.” I hated that look. It made me feel weak, like I was chasing nothing. But I didn’t care what they thought, I was here for Emily. I had to keep trying. At the front desk, Officer Cole looked up at me. His eyes were red from lack of sleep, or maybe from staring at a computer all day. He looked at me, and just sighed as I stopped in front of him.“Any news?” I asked, trying to keep my voice calm.He shook his head, the same slow shake he always gave. “I’m sorry, Miss. Gina. Nothing yet.”I clenched my fists at my sides. “How can there be nothing? She’s been missing for so long. Are you people even looki

MATTEO I could feel my blood boiling as I sped out of the compound. The car engine roared, tires screeched, but I didn’t care. My hands were tight on the steering wheel, my foot heavy on the gas.The streets flew by in a blur of lights and shadows. Cars honked, some drivers swerved out of my way. I barely noticed. Every second counted. If I got there too late, I might lose everything. Not my warehouse. Definitely not tonight.A sharp turn nearly threw the car off balance. I didn’t slow down, neither was I thinking of doing that. Rather, I pressed harder. A few more streets, and the warehouse came into view. But what I saw made my heart pound harder. My men at the entrance laid lifeless on the ground outside the gate. I couldn't even think straight. They were just five of them, but it felt like I had lost twenty. And there they were, two of Pedro’s dogs. Standing guard like they owned the place, like they were proud of what they’d done. My anger exploded, and I wanted nothing but to w

MATTEO "Sir, you have a guest." I was distracted by the voice of one of my men as he stepped in.I frowned. "A guest?""Yes, sir," He answered. "She calls herself Vivian."Vivian. That name sounded familiar to my ears, a name I never thought I'd forget so soon. I felt Micheala's eyes on me, waiting for an explanation to who the guest was, and why she was here."Tell her I’ll be there in five minutes," I instructed and he left."Why do I feel like Vivian is more than just a mere guest?" She asked. I knew she had said that to get words out of my mouth, and she wasn't going to let go until she got her answer."She's just a friend," I told her. "We'll have this conversation later." I placed the gun down on the table and walked out of the room, leaving her behind.I walked down the stairs slowly, trying to get over the whole incident. At this point, I didn’t need more problems. I just wanted to breathe. But as soon as I reached the bottom step, I saw her.Vivian.She stood in the living r

EMILYI stood there shaking, my back pressed against the cold wall of Matteo’s office. His eyes were full of rage – the kind of rage that could burn down an entire building. I’d seen him angry before, but not like this. This was different. This was deadly. He stepped closer. His breath hit my face, warm and bitter. His hand moved to his side, and my heart stopped when I saw him pull out his gun.“Matteo… please…” I said, almost like a yell. It was now I realized why people get terrified when a gun is being pointed to their face. The fear that comes with it wasn't a mere feeling."Please..." I begged, but he didn’t answer. His grip on the gun was firm. His eyes didn’t blink, he just stared at me like I wasn’t even human anymore.“This is what you wanted, isn’t it?” His growled so dangerously that I almost thought I was going to die way sooner before the bullet even got to my weightless skull. “You wanted to play games with me? You wanted to make me look like a fool?”“No! I never–”“Sh
