Looking at him through a transparent glass window is truly frustrating. I wish so much I could be right there by his side. Hold his hand and tell him everything will be fine. However, I can’t get close to him yet. Still, I don’t give up on him for a single second and stand there for hours just watching him sleep peacefully. I smile hopefully when I realize his breathing has returned to normal. Alex is calm, and according to the doctors, he only needs to stay a few days in intensive care to ensure there’s no rejection from his body to the new heart.
It’s almost over, son. I whisper mentally.
However, I snap out of my thoughts when I feel a firm touch on my shoulder. Turning around, I find Melissa standing next to me.
"Why are you still here?"
"I... I lost track of time looking at him," I smile again, but Mel looks at her wristwatch.
"Don’t you have an important meeting this morning?"
"Oh, shit!" I curse exasperated, having completely forgotten what day it is today. "I need to go!
