ALEXANDER VON SINCLAIR
ALEXANDER PACED THE length of his office angrily. His body itched, and that reflected in his mood. In the far corner of his office and shrouded by slight darkness, his brother, Joram Von Sinclair, sat lounging lazily on a couch with a cup of whiskey in hand.
Alexander cast a long look at Joram, then he scoffed and walked to the window, looking out at the dusk of the city’s skyline. His office was located on one of the tallest skyscrapers in the commercial district of town, so even though time was far gone, he could still see the last winks of the sunset.
“You know that your pacing isn’t helping,” Joram said coolly from where he sat.
Alexander looked at his brother, fighting the primal urge to throw him from the window. He scoffed and turned away before he gave in to his primal instinct.
Joram stood up and walked towards Alex. “Whiskey takes the edge off,” he said, stretching out his hand.
Alex gave a disgruntled look at the glass for a long second, then he collected it and drained it in one gulp. “Whiskey takes the edge off… that used to be 100 years ago.” He sucked in a deep breath and growled as he pulled off the tie from his neck. He unbuttoned the first two buttons of his shirt as he sat down heavily on his seat.
Joram brought the bottle and placed it on the table. “One glass might not take the edge off, but I am fairly certain that the whole bottle would.”
Alex snorted. He unbuttoned another button, revealing his upper chest. His skin was red and inflamed – and designed with a very intricate design of tattoos. “I know what I need.” He growled. “And it is not alcohol.” He stormed out of the office angrily.
Joram sighed, rubbed his eyes with the heels of his hands, and then followed. As they got to the elevator, Alex's phone rang. He brought it out of his pocket, looked at the caller ID, and released a very long hiss.
“Who is it?” Joram asked.
Without saying a word, Alex handed the phone to his brother, who glanced at the caller ID and chuckled. “What, you don’t want to pick it?” He ended the call and dipped the phone into his breast pocket. “So you don’t want alcohol… and you also don’t want the company of a woman. And not just any woman… it's Lucia. Your Lucia.”
“She is not my Lucia,” Alex growled.
“Hmm,” Joram nodded with a knowing smirk on his face.
“She is not my mate,” Alex growled again.
Joram sighed, “Surely you have been in this world long enough to know that we don’t have the privilege like werewolves do.” The elevator door opened to an underground garage, and they walked out. “You even have it better than most of us.”
“I’m sure I do,” Alex snorted, rolling up his sleeves to reveal more angry red tattoos.
Joram sobered and nodded. HEe dropped the subject.
They got into a sporty Corvette and drove out. “I am going to spend the night in the cabin tonight,” Alex said as he merged with the traffic.
“What?” Joram asked. His eyes went wide with alarm. “Alek, Do you remember what happened the last time…”
“I remember, brother,” Alex said, rubbing his hands on the steering wheel as he swerved through the traffic. “But that was a long time ago,” he continued. “I'm sure nothing is going to happen now.”
“I am coming with you,” Joram said in a strong voice that did not leave any space for argument, so Alex nodded and agreed.
*********
ALEXANDER COULD IMMEDIATELY feel better as he stood in front of the cabin, looking at the thick woods. He was barefoot, his toes dug into the soft earth. The feeling of nature further appeased his raging beast.
The last time he had been here, almost 40 years ago, his beast had gotten the better of him and –
“You look at peace here, Alek,” Joram said, cutting into his thoughts.
“I feel much better,” he replied.
“You should come and visit the clan,” Joram said. “That might be another reason your beast is agitated now.”
Alex shook his head. “That is not why, and you know it.” He turned away and walked into the small, cozy cabin. He tossed some wood into the fireplace and sat down on a rocking chair.
“Don’t sleep off,” Joram muttered.
Alex chuckled. “I know better than that,”
When he slept, his body became vulnerable, and his beast could take over at any time, wreaking havoc on whatever it came across. It had happened before, and Alex did not have any intentions of letting it happen again.
“So… Lucia…”
“What about her?” Alex asked.
“What do you mean ‘what about her?’” Joram snorted. “Aren’t you two a thing?”
“She wishes,” Alex said.
Suddenly his peaceful demeanor was gone. He stood up restlessly; Joram's eyes followed his movement as he stalked to the window and looked at the dark shadows and trees.
“Is there someone out there?” Joram asked.
Alex did not reply because he did not have a reasonable answer. He knew there was someone out there, but he did not see, hear, or even scent the person. The feeling was like a gut instinct from his heart. He frowned, squinting deeper in the shadows.
There is something or someone out there… His beast could feel it.
Without thinking, Alex walked out of the cabin and rushed headfirst into the woods.
It’s been three months since the curse-breaking ritual. Alek was finally free and the marks of the curse had changed its colours, signifying the struggles he had faced. Ava walked into the room Claire shared with Alek, “Good afternoon, Silver wolf. It is unlike you to still be in bed at this time. What are you doing rotting in bed when you have matters to tend to?”“You have not seen me in three months, dear witch and this is what you first said to me.” Claire groaned.Joram and Ava had volunteered to follow the faint trail Claire’s mom had left behind while she absconded but unfortunately they found nothing. “What is wrong with you?” Ava moved close to her as she sensed that Claire was in some kind of pain. She held her hand and felt her pulse.A small whisper escaped her mouth like she didn't want anyone outside to hear. “How far are you gone?” “What do you mean?” Claire snatched her hand from her and tried to sit up but she frantically failed because of her low body strength. She
CLAIRE VON SINCLAIR"ARE YOU SURE of what you're saying?" Alek asked slowly."I can't be sure," Ava said. "But we can't know until we try.""If trying means you are going to put her life in danger again, don't try. She is not interested." "You don't talk for me," I snapped."No one's life will be put in danger," Ava said. "No one has to.""So what will be needed?" I asked."The full moon," Ava said. "A drop of your blood. A blood of your blood. I will get the other things on my own.""We can bring a drop of our blood," I said.Alek grabbed my upper arm and pulled me aside. "Have you forgotten what happened last time?" He asked. "How are you so easy to agree with it again this time?""This time, we are not being separated," I said."And now you suddenly trust the witch?" He asked. "Remember you did not want her here with us.""Maybe it was good that she came. It could have been the moon goddess's plan all along," I said."You are suddenly spiritual," he muttered."I am the silver wolf
CLAIRE VON SINCLAIRIT WAS A short walk to the moonshadow pack and in a few minutes, I and Logan were walking along the very familiar streets. The pack was desolate and lifeless, but the news spread around that a silver wolf was in the pack, and the street was lined with people who wanted a peek at me and Logan, whom they recognized.I took my time, walking slowly with Logan beside me as we made our way to the pack house. Some guards approached us, but at one sight of me, they faltered and fell back, following us at a distance.Bruce and my sister stood in front of the pack house as we approached. My sister's stomach was big. She was heavily pregnant and her skin was blotched and white.Bruce remained just as I remembered him from the last time I was here. Handsome and irritatingly cocky, but his eyes widened as he saw me. They did not know who I was, but the presence of a glowing white wolf was enough to make any werewolf fear.Bruce cleared his throat and said, "You are trespassing.
CLAIRE VON SINCLAIRI WALKED OUT of the room just as Alek was about to come in."The pack wants to toast to your well-being," he said, taking my upper arm.I had other more important things to do, but I had to honor them so I went with Alek to the top of the stairs. I accepted the small glass of champagne that was handed to me and raised it."To the Luna and savior of this pack," Jamie said in a strong voice."Cheers!" They said in unison.I smiled and drank it all in one gulp. Then I took Alek's hand. "Come," I said to him in a low voice. He looked confused, but he followed me. I nodded to Joram, who immediately left the witch's side and came up to join us in the secluded room."This had better be good," Joram said as he closed the door gently behind him. "You are prying me away from good alcohol.""Or from hanging on the arms of the witch," I muttered. He chuckled and sat down. "What's up?""I need to go to my father's pack immediately," I said."Immediately immediately?" Joram aske
CLAIRE VON SINCLAIRWE REMAINED IN an embrace, relishing in the sexual excitement in silence. "We have so many things to do," he whispered into my hair.I nodded. "I need to speak with Logan. I need to know why he left my father's pack."We sighed and got out together to wash up. After a little fooling around in the bathroom, we were ready to meet with the pack.Downstairs was brimming with people who had come to welcome me. It was like a little party with small pastries and snacks and drinks. As soon as I got down, I was hugged tightly by Lizzie and Ryana. "I knew Alpha Alex was going to find you!" Lizzie said to me, shedding tears of happiness. "I knew it!""I have missed you too," I said.Lizzie pulled back, looked at me, and then hugged me again."Don't keep me all to yourself, Liz," I chuckled. "Share me."She laughed and pulled away, making way for Senator Jamie and the rest of the Senate. Jamie shook my hand while the others bowed. "It is good to see you back home, Luna," Jamie
CLAIRE VON SINCLAIRTHERE WAS A tortured look on Joram's face as he came in. "Take a seat," I said.He snorted and remained standing. His eyes softened as he looked at me. "It is good to have you back, Claire." He said, and I could tell how relieved he was that I was safe. "But there would not have been anything for you to return to if not for the witch you are so eager to banish.""What?" I asked. "What is he talking about?" I turned to Alek."You have not told her?" Joram asked Alek, who shook his head."Told me what?" I asked."That Alek was almost killed here," Joram said. "If not that the witch foresaw it.""Well, that's not exactly what happened-" Alek started to say but Joram cut him off."Our uncle came back," Joram said to me. "The one that caused the curse that plagues us. He is now working with the council, and he snuck into the pack. He would have killed us all, but Ava dreamt about it.""It was not really a dream," Alek started to say again. "She went into a trance.""Sh
