Author's POV

Bianca clenched her fists. She knew Samantha was deliberately getting under her skin. Looking at Samantha now, the difference between the lady she slapped and the lady standing here was clear. The cloth she wore was even pricier than hers. If she knew the tables would turn like this, she would have minded her business, but now that things have changed, she could only face it head on.

Nathan smiled and tried to touch Samantha, but she slapped his hand away. “Sam,” he rubbed the back of his head. “You didn't tell me you were this rich. You told me your parents were-”

“In a remote village with no means of survival,” she completed his statement, and he took in his bottom lip while giving her a nod. Samantha chuckled. “Yeah. I lied to you.” she answered lazily, her eyes rolling.

“Why would you lie to me?” he asked, happy within himself that he had found something to use against her. If he could blackmail her emotionally for lying, then it was all going to be alright for him.

Samantha saw right through him and scoffed. “Did you think my parents were ready to accept you as their son-in-law?” she asked, her expression turning into a serious one. “I forsook my family to be with you, Nathan. I loved you so much and left everything behind just to get married to you behind their backs and without their blessings. So, I was practically with nothing then. I had the chance to return to my father when your family started mistreating me, but I didn't because I loved you,” she snickered at how foolish she had been. “I even begged you not to divorce me because to me, you were my only happiness. I endured everything your mother and brother did to me because of you, but you brought in another lady and chased me out despite my pleas. You thought I was going to suffer, right? News Flash: I'm the main event.” she chuckled at how stupid he was.

Nathan realized he was the one who was actually at loss now. If he had treated her well, she would have looked for a way to help him.

“Sam,” he called softly, but she didn't give him any response. “I'm sorry. I had no idea you were hurt by everything I and my family did to-”

“Hush!” she silenced him. “I am not a robot without emotions. You're saying all these now because you lost.”

“I haven't lost anything. You haven't signed your own part on the divorce papers. There is still something we can do.”

“Nathan!” Bianca snapped at him, but he gave her a reassuring look.

Samantha looked at the file in her hand. “I already signed the divorce papers, Nathan,” she slapped the document on his chest and he grabbed it. He quickly brought the documents out and gasped as he saw her signature neatly placed on its spot.

Nathan couldn't believe she actually signed the papers. He thought she loved him so much and wouldn't sign it yet; he thought she was going to wait for him to take her back. How on earth did this happen? He glanced at her, his expression changing. “Samantha, I didn't expect you to sign it so soon.”

“Why not? Do you want me to waste time so you can come back with an excuse later that it was a prank?” she huffed. “Even if all the things you did to me were a prank, the slap your bitchy girlfriend gave me and how she made her men rough handle me and throw me out of the house was not a prank,” she threw a glare Bianca's way, making a mental note to deal with her later.

Nathan tried to explain, but she raised her hand to stop him.

“I hope you have a nice life, ex-husband.” With that said, she didn't say anything else to him and walked away, leaving him to ponder on all she had told him.

Bianca looked at him, and as if sensing his discomfort, she wrapped her hand around his arm. “Stop worrying about what she said, Nath. You can count on my father's company. I'll be announced as the CEO soon, and I will definitely make sure I bring your company back to life.” she assured him with a smile, but Nathan's mind was occupied with something else.

How was it that he lived with Samantha for three years and wasn't able to even get a whiff of her true background? He was blinded by his company loss that he took out his frustration on her and blamed her for everything even though he knew that it wasn't her fault.

He didn't even care to ask about her background or anything. He felt she was worthless since she told her parents lived in a remote area.

That moment, he realized what he had just lost.

“Shit!” he exclaimed as he looked at Samantha, who stood elegantly speaking with some businessmen and smiling brightly. He hadn't seen her smile so brightly before. He had ruined her life and taken her smile in their marriage.

He recalled how she would work late into the night and still come home to take care of the family before going to bed, only to wake up very early the next morning for another work. He saw her struggling with her health numerous times and turned blind eyes to it, but she never complained.

Despite the stress, she would always welcome him back from work with a smile, but he would yell at her to stay away from him and complain about things she hadn't done. He had been mean, and it seemed his actions were coming back to haunt him.

“Nath!” Bianca shook him, and he turned to look at her. “What are you thinking about, huh? Forget about Samantha. She's gone, so let her be. Forget about her money as well. I already said I was going to revive your company.” she whined.

Nathan sighed. “Let's get out of here.” he didn't wait for Bianca to say anything else before walking out while she rushed after him.

Samantha saw them walking out and smirked. This was just a tip of the iceberg. She hadn't even started yet.

29.After Mia walked out, Samantha soaked her handkerchief into the water and used it to wipe her gown, but the stains were still there since her gown was white in color. She ran her hands through her hair, not knowing what else to do. She wondered why Aiden's cousin would be this mean. It wasn't like she was even interested in the guy, so why was the lady all worked up?With a sigh, she walked out of the bathroom, trying her best to ignore the stains on her cloth. Her intention was to just go there and tell Aiden that she no longer wanted to have dinner. When she got there, Aiden's eyes went to her clothes. “Sam, your clothes are still stained.”“Yeah, I know,” she tucked a strand of hair behind her ears.“I'm so sorry, Sammy, I had no idea my clumsiness would be this…” Mia trailed off and sighed, giving Samantha an innocent expression. “I'm so sorry. Please don't be mad.” she pleaded, and Samantha couldn't believe this lady. She was acting like some sort of angel in Aiden's presenc

28.Aiden tapped his feet on the floor numerous times as he awaited Samantha's reply to his invite. He would glance at his phone every second and Seth just sat, watching him."No reply yet?" Seth asked."It's been fifteen minutes. What's taking her so long? She read it and refused to say anything." he ruffled his hair."Be patient. Maybe she tapped on the message by mistake and hasn't glanced at her phone to see it." he tried to comfort Aiden, who just looked away. After two minutes, he stood to his feet. "If she isn't going to reply to my text, I'll just have to meet her face to face and get the answer out of her." Just as he was about to take a step, his phone beeped. He quickly checked it and his face lit up at her reply "She said yes!" he exclaimed happily, did a dance and turned around, walking out of the office with the car keys twirling in his hand.Seth wondered if it was a proposal because how can a man like Aiden be so happy because a lady accepted his invite to a dinner da

27.Samantha couldn't believe what was happening. She turned to Madame Dupont, who was daydreaming about her son's happily ever after with her in the picture.“Madame Dupont, I don't think this is necessary. Elvis and I-”“Nonsense,” she brushed off what Samantha was about to say. “I am not expecting you two to fall in love immediately, no. Love is a beautiful thing and as such, it takes a gradual process. From the way he looked at you, I know that he likes you. Once you two spend some time together, you'll see.” she smiled.Samantha raised an eyebrow. If she had known that things would turn out this way, she wouldn't have come to this woman's house. She would have requested they meet for coffee instead. With a sigh, she placed her cup of tea on the table gently and flashed Madame Dupont a smile. “I know this would come as a shock to you, but I am engaged,” she said, and the woman became quiet. “I know a lot of people may not know because it hasn't been announced yet, but I have someo

26.A DAY LATER..."When are you going to rest, Mrs. Salvador? You shouldn't be stressing yourself out like this. I don't know how much longer your body would be able to fight this." Doc. Mara, who was in charge of her health, spoke up, worry etched into her voice. She had come to complain about her headaches and body weakness, and the doctor had checked her only to realize that her condition wasn't improving a bit.Samantha sighed. "Doc, you do know the kind of work I do, don't you? It does not require me to just sit and do nothing. I have to be busy all the time, paperworks here and there, TV interviews day and night, not to mention the eyes of the press are always on me. I'm under a lot of pressure, you know." she complained."I know but it wouldn't bite to take a short break. During that period, you could hire a manager. That would make the work lesser for you. You wouldn't have to do tons of paperworks anymore." Doc. Mara advised her.Samantha massaged her temple. "I'll consider

25.Jessica sat down on the couch and took a deep breath. Samantha was right about everything. There were times she had wanted to put Estella in her place, but she felt the girl just needed to be loved. She recalled how Estella would cry herself to sleep every night and shut herself out from everyone during the day. There are times she would want to do the work of a mother, but Estella had always been hostile towards her from day one.She could still remember the incident that occured the first day she stepped her feet into the house.FLASHBACKYEARS AGOJessica walked into the mansion, her hands wrapped around Ray's arm. They had just tied the knot and he had insisted she moved into the house today. She had no idea he was such an influential person because he was simple yet nice towards her."Ray, I know you were rich, but you didn't tell me you were this rich." she gushed over the beautiful interior. Being a designer herself, she couldn't help but admire the intricate designs on the

24."Excuse me?" Samantha couldn't believe what this lady just blurted out from her mouth. "For the record, Dad just traveled, he isn't dad, and again, he never asked you to be in charge of anything. We aren't kids."Estella glared at Samantha. "And who asked you to talk? It's not like you're the first daughter of the house or are you?""I might not be the first daughter of the house, but I won't be disrespected." Samantha replied.Estella laughed. "Look who is talking about respect? Do you think you're a big shot now because Dad made you CEO of the company? The CEO tag is just a title, it doesn't stop you from being a nobody because that's exactly what you are."Samantha tightened her fists. She was about to talk but Jessica stepped in to quell the situation. "Girls, you two are sisters-""Correction: stepsisters. She doesn't even deserve to be called my stepsister because I am sure she is an illegitimate child!" Estella snapped."Watch your tongue, Estella. I will not tolerate being
