The night air was thick with the smell of smoke and something that smelled like it was rotting. The stench of Charles’ kingdom settled over me like a thick blanket.
It was not impossible for me to sleep, not after the dream I had and the scene I had witnessed. That poor child. His blood seemed to stain my hands and no matter how many times I had scrubbed them raw in the bathroom that was in the chamber I was now in, it didn’t leave.
I started pacing around the room, my heart pounding wildly against my chest, my mind racing with different questions I had no answer to.
How much longer could I survive here? How much longer could I let this horror unfold before I was completely broken and ruined?
I couldn’t stay in this room. At least not tonight.
A strange feeling made me leave the room, my steps quiet and my breathing silent. The halls were empty… too empty. Even the usual people who watched me in silence , the guards and even the servants who were always creeping in the
