Chapter 13

Candice’s POV

Arriving at the banquet, I looked so magnificent.

I didn’t need anybody to tell me how magnificent I looked.

On the outside, I kept my posture straight, my expression neutral, but inside, my stomach was a battlefield. Nerves clawed at my chest, and my fingers trembled slightly in my lap, hidden beneath the folds of my gown.

As the car door opened, the sound of clicking heels, camera flashes, and murmured greetings filled the air. Dorian stepped out first, tall and composed, radiating the kind of confidence that could silence a crowd with a single glance. Then his hand reached back inside—for me.

I hesitated for half a second before slipping my hand into his.

His palm was warm. Steady. And just like that, I was out in the open, under the lights, surrounded by whispers.

The grand chandelier overhead sparkled like falling stars as we walked.

Men in tailored tuxedos, women draped in diamonds and couture, waiters balancing trays of champagne like clockwork. It f

Candice POV“You know,” he said slowly, like he was trying to sound gentle but couldn’t hide the cruelty behind his voice, “Alora’s uterus was badly damaged when she jumped off that building.”I blinked, confused for a second. “What?”“She won’t be able to have children anymore,” he added. “That little stunt she pulled… it cost her.”My mouth parted in shock. I didn’t know what to say.“She’s infertile now,” he continued with a shrug. “Probably permanent.”I opened my mouth and shut it again. My heart started beating faster. “So what?” I finally said, forcing the words out. “That doesn’t mean my child will be taken away from me.”Marcus tilted his head and raised his brows. “Are you sure?”I narrowed my eyes. “This baby is mine. Mine and Dorian’s. No one is taking him or her away from me.”He gave me a long, unreadable stare. Then he laughed—quietly.“You know,” he said, his voice dropping low as he looked directly at my stomach, “Dorian does care about the baby. I believe that. I rea

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 72- Reality Of Life

Candice POV“Help!!!” I screamed, my voice breaking with fear and pain.It felt like something inside me was tearing apart. My knees buckled as I tried to walk, but I couldn’t. The pain was too much.I crashed down to the floor, gripping my belly tightly. My breath was stuck in my throat. I was sweating all over. Cold, shaky sweats that made me feel dizzy. The nanny came running in, eyes wide. “Oh my God, Miss Candice!” she gasped, kneeling beside me in panic. “What’s happening? What’s wrong?!”I could barely speak. My lips trembled as I gritted through the pain.“My baby—my stomach… it hurts—so bad,” I groaned, shaking.“You’re going to be okay. Please, just breathe… just try to stay calm,” she said quickly, grabbing my shoulders gently and trying to keep me upright.“No,” I muttered, tears streaming down my face. “No, I don’t think I’m okay. I think something’s really wrong…”The pain hit again—harder this time.I screamed again.“Please,” I whispered, barely able to keep my eyes o

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 71- It Hurts So Much

Candice – POVI hesitated for a second before finally taking the phone from her hand.I didn’t even know why I looked. But then I looked. And I saw it.Some kind of security camera was pointed directly into Alora’s hospital room. And right there on the screen…It was Dorian.Dorian… on top of Alora. My breath caught in my throat. My hands trembled so badly I nearly dropped the phone. His body was pressed against hers. Her hospital gown was practically off, hanging open like it didn’t matter. His lips were all over her neck, her collarbone, moving down—“No…”The word came out of me in a whisper. But it wasn’t enough. He kissed her like he meant it. Like he wasn’t just playing a role. His hands were on her body. Alora looked straight into the camera and smiled.A cruel one.She knew I was watching. She wanted me to see it.I froze.I couldn’t even cry. I just stood there, holding the phone with both hands as if my grip could change what I was seeing. As if staring harder would make it

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 70- Why Is She Here?

Candice POVBefore I could even ask a single question, he spoke. He gave that arrogant smile of his and sat down on the couch like he owned the place. ““I know what you’re thinking,” he said calmly. “You’re wondering why I’m here, right?”He leaned forward a bit, resting his elbows on his knees, and stared at me like he already knew everything I was about to say.“You’re wondering why I’m here. What I’m doing at your door… especially like this, without warning.”I stayed silent. He smirked. “So… let me save you the energy. I’ll answer before you ask.”He casually looked around the small apartment. Then he turned back to me.“I came back for Dorian and Alora’s wedding,” he said with a little shrug, like it was no big deal. “And since I was already in town… I thought, why not pay you a visit too?”Something in my chest twistedSo this was it.He wasn’t here to ‘say hello’ or drop off gifts out of kindness. He was here to rub salt into a wound that hadn’t even started healing yet.I fol

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 69- Why did He Get Me These?

Dorian POVI turned around quickly and saw a nurse standing right behind me, holding a clipboard. I hadn’t even heard her approach. She gave me a polite but curious smile.“Um…” I cleared my throat, forcing a small smile onto my face. “Yeah. I was just about to,” I said quickly, pretending I wasn’t standing outside the door spying. I didn’t want her to get suspicious, so I gave a little nod, gently pushed open the door to Alora’s ward, and stepped inside like everything was fine. The moment I entered, the atmosphere changed.Alora was already lying on the bed again, covered neatly with a soft hospital blanket, her eyes closed like she had been sleeping this whole time. Her head was tilted slightly to the side. She looked calm, peaceful, like a fragile patient resting after some long, painful procedure. But I knew what I had seen.Just moments ago, she was wide awake. Holding her phone. Scrolling through something like she had no care in the world. Her face had been full of life. And

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 68- Something Fishy

Dorian – POVAlora’s father finally sighed and looked at me. “Fine,” he said, his tone still stiff. “If that’s what Alora wants, then do it properly. Make it grand. Make it something she can brag about.”My stepmother smiled tightly and added, “Yes. She deserves it after everything. Just don’t mess it up, Dorian. This needs to be the best day of her life.”I nodded, giving a small, polite smile. “I’ll make sure it’s everything you’ve dreamed of,” I said. Then I turned to them. “If you’ll excuse me for a moment,” I said softly. “I just need to step out. I have a few calls to make.”They didn’t question it. They were too busy talking about flower colors and which designer would do Alora’s dress.I walked out of the ward, calmly at first. The moment I stepped out of that suffocating room. I took a deep breath like I hadn’t breathed in days. I needed a second. Just a damn second to think.I kept walking. Quietly. Down the hall, past the nurses. Until I reached the fire exit. The heavy
