Krewe ended up coming to practice. He sat in the bleachers, and I waved to him as I ran towards the cheer squad.
"I don't think Tom's going to be too happy seeing that guy here," Cassandra said with a sneer. "Why would Tom care?" I scanned the field for Tom. His jersey number was 22, but I hadn't caught sight of him yet. "Why!?" She scoffed, "Maybe because that guy hit him." She folded her arms across her chest. "I didn't know about any of that." "Yea, because you're always leaving your man for others to take care of. Where were you later that night when that went down?" "I had gone home. I wasn't feeling well." "Mhmm. Anyways, girls, let's get started." I looked up to Krewe sitting on the bleachers and wondered why he would have done such a thing. He smiled, so I politely waved back before beginning practice. "Hey babe! How's it going?" Tom put his arm around me after practice ended. "Where did you come from? I didn't see you when I got here?" "I was probably still in the locker room or something," he said as he leaned in for a kiss. Before he did, I looked over to the bleachers to see if Krewe was watching. I don't know why it would have mattered anyway, but he wasn't there. Tom planted the kiss on my lips, and then I searched around. I couldn't spot him, and weirdly enough, I couldn't feel him either. "Who are you looking for?" "Probably her new lover!" Cassandra said. "Haha, and who would that be," "That new guy from the party who smoked you!" "You're hanging out with him!?" "He helped me out earlier, so I invited him to watch practice. It wasn't anything." "Sure," Tom said as he stormed off for the locker rooms. Shawn ran after him, giving me a sad look as he went. "Thanks a lot, Cassandra. It wasn't like that and you know it." I stormed off to the locker room myself. I couldn't believe she did that. She already has Shawn, but that's just not good enough. "Hey! Sawyer! Hang on." "What do you want, Shawn?" "I'm sorry about Cassandra. I know you wouldn't do anything to Tom. You have a big heart and care about people. You're too good to do anything bad." "Is that what everyone thinks? Is that why Tom cheats on me? And don't pretend you don't know. Everyone knows. I'm just a big joke to all of you." "Then why are you with him?" "Because I can't be with you!" I don't know what came over me, but after hearing him say I was too good, I knew I needed to change. I grabbed Shawn's face and kissed him. At first, he didn't kiss back, but then he grabbed me firmly by the waist and held me as he gave into the kiss. He turned us around and pushed me up against the wall. He pulled my one leg up and around him as his hand caressed up to my butt. A low growl came from the hall, and we broke apart to look around, but we didn't see anyone. "He saw you," my wolf said into my head. "Who?" "Our mate," she said, sounding sad and disappointed. "I need to go!" I grabbed my bag and ran off heading towards home. "Sawyer! Wait!" Shawn called after me. But I kept running. What did I do? Who had I become in that moment? And why did I care so much that Krewe saw me? "Evelyn, what is happening?" "So now you want my help?" "I'm sorry, but I can't control my emotions! I've never done something like that." "Our emotions are stronger than humans. We sometimes act on impulse if we can't learn to control our emotions." "So how do I learn!?" "By listening to me silly! I will guide you and help you. You are a newly shifted wolf. You have suppressed me and haven't grown up in a pack. It will take time." "I feel too fired up right now. Like, like...like, I want to punch something!" "Then let me out, and let's go for a run." "Will that help? Will it hurt again?" "Each time it will get easier, I promise, Sawyer." As I ran, I shifted my direction to the woods. As I entered them, I dropped my bag behind a tree. "Now remove your clothing." "But!" "No buts, Sawyer. Do you want to destroy your clothing?" "No." "Then take off your clothes. No one is around to see you." I undressed, trying to trust my wolf. I stood there naked, waiting for something to happen. "Well, now what?" Suddenly, I felt the bones shifting inside me. It hurt, and it kept getting worse. I felt my bones breaking everywhere. "Breathe, Sawyer. It's almost done." I calmed myself and breathed in and out, focusing on my breath. The next thing I knew, I was looking at everything from someone elses eyes and viewpoint. "Are you ready?" "Ready for what?" Then Evelyn took off running. It felt so freeing and scary all at the same time. She ran and ran, and I could feel the wind flowing through her hair. "Where are we going?" "To see our mate, of course!" "What! No!" "I'm a great tracker and can sniff him. He isn't far." I shut myself out and just believed in her. She ran all the way to a lake house. We stalked it from the shadows of the woods. We could smell him. The scent was stronger around back. That's when I saw him. He was sitting on the dock with his feet in the water. He had no shirt on, and his jeans hung low on his waist. "He's so handsome." I didn't respond as I didn't want to admit that I thought he was handsome. I couldn't help but look at him. Then, he looked in our direction as if he knew we were there. We stared at each other. "Run! Take me back now!" "What? Why?" "Now, Evelyn, please!" So she ran us all the way back to the backpack where we shifted and got dressed again. My body felt sore and tired. I picked my backpack up and ran for home. "Sawyer, is that you?" Ma said. "Yes." I responded as I took off my runners and headed up to my room. "There's dinner on the table." "I'm not hungry," I called back. I raced up to my room and shut the door. I laid down on the bed and, for the first time in a long time, fell fast asleep.I spent the day packing. I never got to ask how I would explain things to my friends. Would I just disappear to never be seen again? I would have to finalize everything and get our stories straight. Ma walked in. "I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you more." "Ma, what are you talking about? I think you have done a great job already. I love you guys so much." "I love you too, baby. But you shouldn't be leaving like this. I should be with you. Protecting you." "You are by sending me to live with Leila. I'm 18. I need to grow up. Whether it was from me being a wolf or me going off to college. At least I figured out everything here and not alone, at some random school, with random people." "I'm sorry I kept this from you." "Don't. It's alright." "It's who you are, though. I didn't allow you to be your true self. I suppressed your wolf, I hid you away." "It's alright. I'm coming to terms with this new world. I honestly thought I was a freak. Now I feel like I actually fit
I watched as she left. I couldn't stop her, even though everything in me wanted to. I wouldn't allow myself to. She needed to find out and know the truth. As long as Max and Liz didn't know, she would be safe. "Why did you let her leave!" Max yelled at me. "I had to. I can't keep her from finding out." "Who will protect her as you say? What happened? Why can't you tell us?" "If you knew and my father found out, Sawyer and her family would be in grave danger. Do you understand!? Or are you just too dumb to realize the consequences of an Alpha command?" "So instead, we have to stand around and do shit all to protect her?!" "Yes!" "I can't do that! If you won't fight for your mate, then I will!" "Max, stop!" "Why!?" "We have to let her go. She has to find out. She needs to know who she is. This is a lot on her already. My father isn't the man you think he is. I will take over the pack, and I will protect Sawyer while making everything right again." "So what? We los
They all just stared at me. I felt uncomfortable. "Can someone say something?" "Sorry. Sawyer, I just haven't figured out what we should do. I just know I have to keep you safe," Krewe said as he came to kneel beside me and take my hand. "Safe from what?" I felt so confused. What happened? Why was I being kept away from what I was? What did Krewe know? "I can't tell you. Not yet." "So what do I do?" "I'm not sure." "This isn't fair! This is all so new to me. I want answers, I want to know why I've been kept a secret all these years. I don't get it, and if you won't tell me, then I guess I will go home and ask my aunt and uncle." I got up and stormed upstairs to grab my belongings. I didn't want to be here anymore. I didn't want to feel this pain anymore. I felt betrayed as everyone had this deep secret about me, and I was being left out. It was my life. I should have a say. I went back downstairs and headed for the door. I could hear them all whispering. "Sawyer, pl
I felt like I had the best sleep of my entire life. I felt warm and rested until I felt a hard body pressed up against me. I stretched and turned and saw Krewe sleeping behind me. I remember laying down with him, but when did he get naked? I quickly checked to make sure I wasn't naked, but no, thankfully, I still had my clothes on. I lifted the blanket and crawled out of the bed, and grabbed the blanket on the end of the bed to drap over him. As soon I had it on top of him, he woke. "Good morning." His voice was still deep and raspy from sleep. "You do realize you're naked?" "I am? Oh yea, I went for a run last night." He said it so casually like it shouldn't matter. I've never been with a naked man. It does matter. I didn't grow up with wolves. This is just awkward. I could feel my cheeks heating up the longer I just stared, dumbfounded. Talk Sawyer, talk. "Well, don't you think you would be more comfortable with some clothes on?" "Oh, shit, yea. I hope I didn't freak y
I could feel the soft rise and fall of her chest as she slept peacefully beside me. I took a look at the time on my watch. It was only 10 PM, I could make it home in time to ask my father more questions and make it back before the morning. "Dad, I need to speak with you. I'm going to run back. Let the night patrol know it's only me running through the pack lands." "I will be in my office. I've got a lot to finish up still. See you soon, son." I closed off the mindlink as I snuck away from the bed and out of the room. Max stood there in the hallway with a glass of water. "What the fuck man?" "This isn't the time to talk. I have to head home quickly." "No! You said I could go for it. You said you didn't mind. You just can't let me have anything, can you? Mr. Alpha has to have everything? Fuck you, man." "That's not it, okay, Max? I will explain everything in the morning." Max shook his head as he went back into his room, "Whatever. I'm done." I felt bad, but I knew I
Krewe had set me up in a room for the night next to his. He provided me with a t-shirt of his to sleep in, and Liz gave me a bunch of options for the next day. My aunt and uncle believed my story, and I was happy to stay. Krewe and I had kept our distance the rest of the evening, and I had made an effort to avoid Max as well. Krewe had asked to keep things under wrap until tomorrow when we would speak with Max and Liz. I agreed to his plan. I slipped into the t-shirt, only keeping my panties on underneath. It was a thinner material in white. So it was a bit risqué. However, no one would see me. Until there was a knock at my door. I opened the door and peeked out. "Oh, hey, Max! What can I do for you?" He stood there with no shirt on and only his pajama trousers. "Just wanted to make sure you were settling in okay for the night." He looked shy but amazing! He just didn't compare to Krewe the more I let my feelings take over. "I am, thanks! I was just about to lay do
