I stood in the closet, adjusting my tie, my hands feeling uncomfortably sweaty. I wasn’t looking forward to this day, but I knew I couldn’t avoid it.
“Cain?” Willow appeared in the closet, dressed in a black dress.
“Hey,” I whispered, turning to her. She gave me a small smile as she stepped closer.
She placed her hands on my neck, drawing my focus to her. She always had a way of calming me, but I knew nothing could fully alleviate the pain in my heart.
“How are you feeling?” she asked.
“Can’t you feel it?” I inquired.
“You’re a bit closed off,” she reminded me, and I sighed.
“Sorry. I don’t want you to bear all my pain,” I admitted.
“We’re mates. We’re supposed to carry it all together,” she pointed out.
“Yeah, but this is…”
“It’s fine if you don’t want to share everything, but know I’m here for you,” she whispered before kissing my lips.
“I know.” I pulled her closer, allowing her presence to soothe me.
“We leave when you’re ready,” she told me.
“I’m ready.”
