Chapter 2

Author: Adopted Five Cats
The other people also asked me to not be rash.

I hung my head and said nothing, but my eyes were cold.

In the previous cycle, when Jeremy and Joy accused me falsely of cheating, the others were not so sincere when they asked me to not be rash. They sided with Jeremy and told him to divorce me as soon as possible so that he would not become a laughingstock.

“Jeremy, if you say that Alania cheated, you have to provide proof. She even gave up on inheriting her parents’ wealth. If you accuse her without proof, I won’t forgive you!”

Joy pushed Jeremy to sit beside me while she sat down beside him. She grabbed his ear and pretended to yell at him angrily. Anyone not in the know would think that they were the married couple in question.

While it sounded as if Joy was feeling indignant for me, she was really forcing Jeremy to bring out the proof showing that I was “cheating” on him.

I twirled the hair that hung loose beside my ear to hide the mocking sneer on my lips.

The moment before I died in the previous cycle, I learned that my birthday party was actually the execution ground they had prepared for me.

After my parents died in an accident, they left behind a massive fortune for me.

But I trusted Jeremy too much. Not only did I not notarize the inheritance, but also treated it as matrimonial assets.

I thought that this would give us an extra layer of security, but it ended up bringing me death.

This time, I was not only going to reclaim all of my inheritance, but also going to bankrupt these two murderers and make them get what they deserved!

Jeremy’s expression remained dark. He brought out a photo on his phone that showed me sitting with a man in a cafe while talking and laughing with him. We looked like we were really familiar with each other.

“If I didn’t have proof, how would I dare say such a thing in front of so many people? Look at this!”

I snickered. So, they had actually been setting this up from that moment on.

When the people heard my laughter, they were stunned. They could not understand why I would react this way.

“Joy, why don’t you tell them what my relationship with this man is.”

I leaned against the sofa with my legs crossed and my chin propped on a hand as I tilted my head toward Joy.

She let go of Jeremy and grumbled in a seemingly troubled fashion, “How could I say that? We never matched stories before this!”

Then, as if she sensed everyone’s gazes on her, she immediately covered her mouth. Panic flashed in her eyes. “That’s not what I meant. Don’t misunderstand…”

After a brief pause, she gave me a resigned look. “Sorry, Alania. I don’t think I can help you anymore.”

I did not say anything during the entire thing and just watched her quietly as she put on her show.

I wanted to know just how sincere she was during our seven years of friendship.

By the looks of it, I was too naive and mistook this venomous viper for a harmless pet. That was why I ended up dying so tragically in the previous cycle.

“That’s fine. If you can’t help me, someone else will.”

I did not stop smiling and dialed a number.

The moment the call went through, the person on the other end asked anxiously, “Miss Nelson, have you managed to contact Joy?”

Joy’s expression changed, and she stared at me fixedly. A brief flash of panic appeared in her eyes.

With my back turned to the others, I mouthed a few words to her. Joy bit down on her lip; she appeared conflicted.

After some time, just when I was about to speak, Joy suddenly said, “Thomas, I’m here. I have something to take care of. Once I’m back, I’ll call you.”

Right before everyone’s puzzled gazes, I hung up and shrugged before wiggling my eyebrows at Joy.

She grabbed the hem of her dress and, with great reluctance, said in a quivering voice, “I’m sorry, everyone. I lied. The person in the photo is my blind date. Alania had gone with me for my blind date.”

After a month or so, we met again in court. She gave me a challenging smile. “Alania, even if you managed to get proof, it doesn’t matter. I’ll show you that I can still get out of this scot-free.”In the corner of my eye, I saw Thomas observing from the benches, and I finally understood why Joy was so confident. But did she really think that she could make use of her trump card so easily?I smiled and said nothing. I let Joy walk past me while looking like she had already won the battle.I handed all of my proof to Philip: Jeremy’s falsified medical report, the paternity test results, and a

Jeremy was so touched that he nearly cried. He placed a loud kiss on Joy’s cheek.“Joy, I know that your heart is with me. I swear that I will never let you down. As long as you stay with me, I’ll always be with you.”Joy then continued talking about her achievements, and I cackled so hard when I heard them that I started crying.Due to my family background, no one wanted to be my friend when I was younger. I only ran into Joy when I was in university.I pretended to be poor, so people bullied me, but she stood up for me and taught me how to fight back.I thought that I had gotten a real friend and brought her back to introduce her to my parents. To think that she had already seen me getting out of a luxury car. Jeremy’s dark and cold expression changed. Clearly, he was convinced by what Joy said. “You’re really smart, Bae. I’m too impatient. I’ll do whatever you say. I’ll execute the plan when you say it’s time.”Then, they started shamelessly dirty talking.I hurriedly turned off the security footage, cradled my chest, leaned over the toilet bowl, and gagged. My eyes burned with such rage that they became bloodshot. I turned on the water tap and dunked my head into the water-filled basin. The feeling of asphyxiation made my head clear up.I had my proof, so I decided to immediately go to Philip to sue the two deranged lunatics.I put the pen drive with the security footage into my handbag and went out. Before I reached the door, I ran into Joy and Jeremy. At the sight of me going out in a hurry, Jeremy smiled. Despite my protests, he grabbed my handbag and poured all of its contents on the floor. He picked up the inconspicuous, black pen drive and shook it in front of me. With a sna

I turned on the voice recording function on my phone and went into the ward.“You’re here as a mouthpiece for Jeremy, aren’t you? Go and tell him that I’m fine with a divorce, but he’s not getting even a cent from the fortune my parents left for me.”My expression was cold as I stood by the window and spoke with my back turned to her.Joy moved to my side and placed a hand on my shoulder. “Look at you. Why are you always so stubborn? Us women have to learn how to be submissive at times to be able to control men’s hearts.”I gave her the side-eye and said coolly but maliciously, “Is that how you seduce men? Sorry, I can’t do it.”Joy was stunned, and her beautiful features turned savage. “Alania, I’m doing this for your sake! I know Jeremy better than you do! If you don’t do as he says, you’ll end up with nothing at all!“I’ll pass him your message. I have something else to do. Goodbye.”Joy left after saying that. Her tense back showed that she had lost her composure and was fur

Jeremy’s expression instantly changed, and he straightened his back.“What do you mean by that, Alania?!”I trembled in an exaggerated fashion. Tears swiftly welled up in my eyes, and my voice quivered from agitation. “Jeremy, the baby is really yours. You have to believe in yourself!“That hospital you went to must not be a proper one, and they got a misdiagnosis. Why don’t you check again? Your parents want grandchildren from you!”Joy had been standing at the back and not participating, but when she heard this, she decided to stop being a bystander. She strode forward and discreetly blocked my view of Jeremy.“Alania, I know that you can’t accept it, but Jeremy went to the hospital with Riverpolis’s best andrologist. Its accuracy is definitely better than any general hospital’s.”Jeremy immediately took over the conversation and said indignantly, “Joy is right. Stop trying to find a loophole! We have to get a divorce! I refuse to become a laughing stock because of you!”They
