She used to be the rich kid, he was the pauper! Now he stands before her as heir to a powerful empire — cold, untouchable and dangerously handsome. Meanwhile Ethan Reed has spent five years drowning himself in work enough to forget about her, not until one meeting shatters it all. Five years ago, Talia Grey walked away from the only man she ever loved; bound by duty and fear. Now, his grandfather's 80th birthday and retirement celebration has brought him back to her city. "You're.....rich?" Talia's voice dropped, her hands trembling beneath the table as she recounted the contours of his face, but Ethan scoffed with a clenched fist. His now cold gaze pierced the eyes of the once naive young lady he'd give his all for....... "why? Are you going to divorce your husband and jump back to me? You're still so crazy over wealth....you disgust me Lia" She felt an arrow to her chest... He hates her for breaking him like that.... But what about her?! Talia has never known love and acceptance till she met him, yet he lied to her! She can't believe she gave her life to protect a lie. Their once structured and fated lives become disrupted again. Chapter: THIRTY
"Ethan honey..." Grandma Reed's voice followed as she gently pushed the door open."Ma.." Ethan pocketed his phone and walked up to her."I know you'd be leaving first thing tomorrow morning." she smiled and caressed his cheek like a baby. "You won't even say hi first."Ethan forced a smile despite his mind still racing with thoughts of Talia."Anything the problem ma?""Not really honey... You looked troubled this morning before you left the house. Anything the matter?" her worrisome eyes searched his and Ethan chuckled.Grandma Reed tried not to keep any favorites between her two sons and extending same to her grandchildren but yes. Only she would come all the way to his room to ask him a question like this."Ma....there's nothing to be worried about... I'm not twelve." he chuckled and she rolled her eyes."Adults are more delicate and wounded than kids are. They need more love." she rubbed his hand and he nodded with a smile."Grandpa would be mad I stole his wife even for a minute

Chapter: TWENTY-NINE.
Talia slowly lowered herself to a squat. She looked around the golden space that circled her. She smiled and stood, only the black lingerie remained in her hands now. She wasn't going to dwell on the past, that was his request after all.Right in the bedroom, she stripped herself naked and opened the door to a new world.A golden jacuzzi. This was next level wealth. Her feet kissed the cold floors and as she walked further in, something struck her.Something felt wrong, off maybe. There were already female supplies, body washes and all, all in her favourite flavors and scents.Had Ethan —?Did he prepare all —Was it possible he prepared all these just with a simple phone call while they sat in the garage and made their way up. Like Shanice had female supplies ready and waiting.Or was he.... Did he plan to bring her here since?Since when did he prepare all these? Her thoughts scattered as her eyes glazed over them. Her eyes watered. She sniffed and walked forward in. She had a long

Chapter: TWENTY-EIGHT
Talia stared for a minute more, her jaw seemed to drop a little but she finally took his hand. They immediately wrapped around hers. Firm. Warm. Masculine. He led her in, and the men followed behind. Her heels echoed through the tiled quiet lobby. It felt suffocating to her.She leaned in and whispered to him, "You're just going to show off after all that just happened, huh?""They're not even in their numbers and I didn't call them out, they must have gotten orders from above," he smirked."You're the above." she rolled her eyes in a feigned anger and he chuckled. He loved feeling this close to her and maybe Talia hadn't realized it yet, but they were still very much holding hands till they got to the elevator."We'll take it from here." Ethan stopped them and they respectfully bowed till the doors shut them in."Yeah... You are rich." Talia clicked her tongue with a chuckle and she finally noticed their hands. Her breathing hitched. She stared slowly up at him, Ethan had his focus

Chapter: TWENTY-SEVEN
Meanwhile, Julian didn’t go home.He left the restaurant and drove straight back to the hospital, the afternoon sun still high and unbothered above the city. Traffic flowed as it always did. People crossed streets. Life continued, unaware that something had fractured quietly inside him.The private elevator took him up without interruption. No nurses. No interns whispering. No curious glances. Just the low hum of machinery that enclosed him. He pocketed his both hands, his eyes shut, his foot tapping rhythmically, a little chuckle started, turned into a minute laugh. Then his smile disappeared. At the ding of the doors opening, he opened his eyes as well. Julian stepped into his office. The daylight spilling through the floor-to-ceiling windows kissed him. He didn't admire the view, instead his jacket came off first, draped carefully over the chair. His watch followed, placed face-up on the desk, aligned perfectly with the edge.Only then did he loosen his tie.Step after step, Jul

Chapter: TWENTY-SIX
The car door shut softly behind her.Too softly, considering everything that had just happened.Ethan didn’t start the engine immediately. They both sat suspended in silence, left to their own thoughts. Talia stared straight ahead, her hands folded tightly in her lap like she didn’t trust them not to shake if they laid freely at her side. Ethan finally adjusted his seatbelt. Clicked it in. Still didn’t look at her. He started the engine, but Talia felt small and naked before him. She pressed her lips together, jaw tight, eyes glossy, her lips quavering. She hated being seen like this.“I didn’t want you to see that,” she said quietly. He didn’t drive off, but the dashboard had lit up, casting a soft glow across her face.“I know.”She finally looked at him then. “I wasn’t supposed to lose control like that.”“You didn’t,” he said immediately. That made her frown. “I slapped him. Twice.”Ethan met her eyes now. Steady. Unjudging.“You defended yourself.”“That’s not how it looked.”

Chapter: TWENTY-FIVE
The tiny space circled the three of them with a fog of uneasy tension. The young staff watched from behind her counter with keen interest whilst trying not to be too obvious. Julian hissed inwardly at Ethan's presence, but outwardly, his chin rose, his right hand stretched forward for a handshake. "Mr. Reed, you seem to be everywhere lately." A smirk followed his rude statement. Talia glared at Julian, but he didn't care. Ethan was getting on his nerves. Still, with such arrogant remark, it still failed to draw a reaction from Ethan. His eyes never left Talia's, completely ignoring Julian. "Lia?" he asked again.Julian's jaw tightened as he withdrew his hand, his other hand pulled Talia in, "we were about leaving for lunch."Talia's face scrunched in disdain. Ethan caught it, causing him to spare Julian a quick glance. "She can speak for herself." Julian smirked but before any further banter..... "Let's all have lunch together" she dropped the bomb.Julian choked on his saliva.
