The Wife He Tried to Erase
Camila's world shatters before breakfast. A live broadcast announces that her husband, Andres, has merged his company with the vineyard belonging to his ex, Valentina Del Prado, the family her grandfather spent his life keeping at arm's length. Then comes something worse: a forged land transfer bearing her own signature, on an estate left to her alone. An anonymous warning arrives, and by the time Andres comes home to explain himself, an armed threat has already reached their door.
The danger is closer than Camila imagined. The estate's own head of security answers to Andres alone, proof he suspected trouble long before telling his wife. Andres denies forging the signature, but the trail leads to her sister Renata, whose name sits on the same paperwork, and to a whistleblower who proves the fraud was deliberately backdated. Just as the truth surfaces, the family's longtime accountant Duarte inserts himself into the investigation, and a threatening text proves someone has been listening all along.
Everything breaks open when Valentina, the woman Camila assumed was her enemy, calls with a revelation: someone used her father's notary credentials to move the deadline forward, and her father has gone silent since. The two women, once rivals, realize they may be the only ones who understand how far this conspiracy reaches, or how much danger they both face.
By now, Camila has lost every certainty she started with. Her husband, her sister, her accountant, all of them have become question marks, and the deadline she once thought distant is closing fast.
What remains constant is Camila herself. Sharper, warier, and done taking anyone's word without proof, she gathers her unlikely allies, Valentina, Ines, and possibly even Renata, to uncover who is truly orchestrating the scheme before her time, and her family's safety, run out for good.

Chapter: Chapter Five: Four Days Left To Stop Them Before It Is Too LateNobody argued with Duarte. We simply moved, the way people move when fear finally outranks pride, four adults and one terrified young notary clerk scrambling back into two cars on a gravel road behind a half collapsed chapel, none of us speaking, all of us watching the tree line like it might produce an answer.I drove home with Renata following close behind me, and Ines squeezed into my passenger seat because she said, quite reasonably, that she did not want to be alone anywhere for the rest of the day. I did not blame her."You should not have come," I told her, once my hands had steadied enough to trust them on the wheel. "Whoever sent that text knew you would be there.""I know," she said. "I keep asking myself who else knew about this meeting, and the answer is almost nobody. You, me, and whoever I was foolish enough to mention it to without realizing it mattered.""Who did you mention it to?"She went quiet for a long moment, staring out the window at the vine rows blurring past

Chapter: Chapter Four: Someone Is Always WatchingMr. Duarte did not walk toward us the way a frightened man walks, or a guilty one either. He walked the way he always had, unhurried, hands loosely clasped in front of him, like he was approaching a budget meeting rather than a gravel lot behind an abandoned chapel."Camila," he said warmly, as though we had simply run into each other at the market. "I am glad we can finally speak plainly.""Plainly," I repeated. "You backdated a notary stamp to make it look like my sister authorized a transfer eleven weeks before it actually happened."Something flickered behind his eyes, so brief I almost convinced myself I had imagined it, the exact same flicker I had seen on Andres's face that morning in the cellar. I was starting to recognize that look. It was the look of someone recalculating how much of the truth the room could survive."I think there has been a serious misunderstanding," he said."Then explain it to me. Simply. The way you explain the harvest budget every October."Beside me,

Chapter: Chapter Three: The Date That Shouldn't ExistI told Andres I needed to check on the north block before the afternoon heat came in, which was not technically a lie, since I did walk through the north block on my way to the truck, I simply did not mention that I had no intention of stopping there. He offered to come with me. I told him Tomas needed him more, since apparently our vineyard now required an armed security consultation before breakfast, which was a low thing to say, but it worked, because guilt is a very useful tool when you know exactly where someone else's guilt lives.Tomas caught me at the truck anyway."You should not go anywhere alone today," he said, shotgun no longer in hand, thankfully, though I noticed he did not look entirely comfortable without it."I will be fine, Tomas.""Boss said.""Boss does not know everything," I said, and immediately felt strange saying it out loud, because six hours ago I would have said the opposite without thinking twice.Tomas studied me for a long moment, the way men who have s

Chapter: Chapter Two: A Signature I Never GaveAndres's hand was still locked around my wrist when the cellar door swung open above us, and for one full second the only sound in that room was my own pulse slamming in my ears. Then a voice I did not expect at all called down the stairs."Boss? You down there? I heard you might have a problem."It was Tomas. Our head of security, a broad, slow moving man in his fifties who mostly spent his days checking delivery trucks and telling tourists not to pick the grapes. Tomas, who I had never once seen carry a weapon in four years of working here, was standing at the top of our cellar stairs holding a shotgun like he had been born with it in his hands.Andres let out a breath that sounded almost like a laugh, except nothing about his face was laughing."Tomas," he said. "You scared us half to death.""You told me if anyone unfamiliar showed up on the property before seven, I should assume the worst," Tomas said, lowering the gun slightly, though not all the way. "A car I did not recognize

Chapter: Chapter One: Nineteen Days to Lose EverythingI am kneeling between two rows of Malbec vines with dirt under my fingernails when my phone starts ringing against my hip, and I already know before I answer it that whatever this is, it is not going to wait until after harvest. My sister's name is on the screen. Renata never calls this early unless something is wrong."Turn on channel nine," she says, before I even get a full word out. "Right now, Camila. I mean it."I stand up too fast and feel the blood rush from my head. "I am covered in soil. What is happening.""Just turn it on."I walk back through the rows toward the tasting room, past the crates we filled yesterday, past Diego loading the truck for the morning delivery, and I switch on the old television we keep behind the bar for slow afternoons when tourists want something to watch while they sip.The first thing I see is the Del Prado sign. The second thing I see is my husband standing directly underneath it.Andres is wearing the gray suit I ironed for him two days ago, t
