NORA

Who knew this jerk kisses better than my ex-boyfriend? Certainly not me.

Marcellus Gregory has me pinned against the wall of his off-campus apartment, his mouth devouring mine. His hands are everywhere, sliding under my top until his thumbs find my nipples.

"Always so fucking mouthy," he growls, his voice so deep that it makes my toes curl. He pinches one nipple hard, making me hiss. "Yet here you are. Dripping for the guy you claim to hate."

"Shut up." I shove his shirt off his shoulders, my nails raking down his chest. "This doesn't mean anything."

"Mm, keep telling yourself that, little Wolf." He spins me around, bending me over the table. My palms slap against the wood as he yanks my denim skirt up, shoving my panties down.

Then his dick slides between my folds, teasing my entrance.

Shit, I knew he was big. But this feels—

"Tell me you want it," he growls against my ear. One big hand fists my hair, pulling my head back so I'm forced to look at him over my shoulder.

"I hate you," I pant, pushing back against him anyway.

He laughs darkly, thrusting along my folds, the fat head kissing my swollen clit.

My legs quiver, my eyes nearly rolling back as sparks climb up my spine.

"Say it," he hisses, and I clench my jaw, squeezing my eyes shut.

I'm going to regret it. I know that. But the ache is too strong. The hatred and lust have twisted together until I can’t tell them apart.

"Fuck me," I grit out, and he kisses the nape of my neck, exhaling softly.

Without warning, he slams into me in one hard thrust.

Fuck!

...

The room is spinning. Not in the fun, post-orgasm dizzy way. This is wrong and heavy. Like someone poured syrup into my brain and lit it on fire.

I blink slowly, my eyelids weighing a thousand pounds. My body feels disconnected, my limbs too loose. I'm naked in an unfamiliar bed, pressed against a solid chest. Mars. His arm is heavy across my waist, his breathing deep and even.

A cough rattles out of me. The air tastes... bitter and smoky.

"Okay, this is not cute," I mumble, my voice slurred.

I try to sit up and woah…shit.

Am I on some kind of rollercoaster?

“Mars... hey, demon spawn. Wake up. I think we burned the building down with how hot that was. Literally."

He gives me no response. Hell, he doesn't even twitch.

Panic prickles through the thick fog in my head. I poke his shoulder hard.

“Marcellus. Gregory. Whatever your name is. This isn't funny. Get up."

Smoke is curling under the door now, thin gray fingers reaching across the floor. Somewhere down the hall, the fire alarm finally starts screaming. But it sounds like it’s miles away. My heart skips several beats, terror creeping in.

I slap his face lightly, then harder. "Mars! Please—wake up!" My words come out mushy and slow.

Why is everything so slow?

Tears sting my eyes.

"Come on, you arrogant jerk," I whisper, shaking him with all the strength I can manage.

My arms feel like cooked spaghetti. "You don't get to hate-fuck me into oblivion and then die on me. That's rude. That's... that's not how this enemies-to-lovers thing works."

I try to stand. My legs buckle immediately, and I crash back onto the bed, half on top of him. The smoke is thicker now, burning my throat.

I cough until my eyes water.

"Marcellus!" My voice cracks. I press my forehead to his, shaking him desperately. "Please wake up. I'm scared. I don't want to do this alone. I don't want you to—I can't—"

A loud crack sounds from somewhere outside the room. The hallway is glowing orange. Heat presses in, sweat pouring down my skin.

I'm sobbing now, still trying to drag his heavy body towards the window even though I can barely move myself.

My chaotic brain keeps throwing out stupid thoughts like—

At least the sex was incredible. Ten-out-of-ten, would probably fuck him again. Stop it, Nora, focus—

"I tried to save you," I choke out between coughs, tears streaming down my face as the room starts going dark at the edges. "I did. I swear I did..."

My fingers clutch his arm, my nails digging in desperately.

I’m gasping now, my heavy eyelids slipping closed.

Oh God, I’m so screwed. Of all the ways to die, this had to happen after the best sex of my life.

I’m sorry, Daddy. Forgive me, Mum.

Forcing my eyes open, I stare at the closed door and cry out with all of my strength.

“HELP! HELP US!”

But I’m too weak.

Everything goes black.

NOVA Three Years Later My daughter has kissed her father fourteen times in the last six minutes. I know because I am counting. "Kiss." Mars bends without hesitation, and Lucia plants another loud, wet kiss directly on his lips. "Mwah." He looks delighted. I look at the clock. “That's fifteen." Mars glances at me over the top of her dark curls. "Jealous?" "Of a three-year-old?" Lucia giggles despite having absolutely no idea what we're talking about. She just knows Daddy is irritating Mummy, which makes him the funniest man alive. She has his blue eyes and dark hair, although hers curls wildly around her little face and refuses every attempt at discipline. Everything else is mine. Especially the attitude. "No, Daddy." She catches both sides of his face when he tries to straighten the gold bow in her hair. "Stay." Mars freezes instantly. "Yes, ma'am." This is the same man who can make an entire boardroom fall silent by leaning back in his chair. Now he is staying

NORA It has been four months since Las Vegas. Four months since Sorrell was arrested, four months since Mars found out I was pregnant, and roughly three months and twenty-nine days since he developed an unhealthy obsession with parenting books. He has opinions now. Strong ones.Car seats must pass his personal safety inspection. Newborn socks, according to him, are structurally useless. He has interviewed three pediatricians, rejected two nursery chairs for inadequate lumbar support, and once woke me at two in the morning because he had read that newborns cannot regulate their body temperature properly."Mars."He looks down at me as we walk through the old university grounds, Franklin trotting between us with his leash looped around Mars' wrist.Franklin is a shaggy brown-and-white rescue with one floppy ear and ridiculous paws. He reminds me of Biscuit, my childhood dog, in ways that still catch me off guard sometimes.Franklin suddenly veers towards a hedge and buries half his

MARCELLUS I wake up alone, and for several seconds that is the only thing my brain understands. The room is dark except for the faint light beneath the door, and for one disorienting second I don't recognize it. Then the familiar walls settle into place. Home.We came home this afternoon.CeCe had been waiting in the foyer, crying before Nora even made it through the door. She hugged Nora, hugged me, and then immediately signed that I looked too thin. I barely remember answering before exhaustion dragged me upstairs. Now Nora is gone."Nora?"Silence greets me.I push myself upright, ignoring the slight pain in my abdomen. Her side of the bed is cold. The bathroom is empty. Her phone isn't on the nightstand, and her robe isn't behind the door either.Fuck.I grab the crutch beside the bed and get to my feet. She said she would give me her answer when we got home. She waited until I fell asleep. No. There are a hundred normal reasons she could be downstairs or outside. CeCe is

  • 100 Days With My Nemesis   ~111~ WITH CONVICTION

MARCELLUS By the time Sorrell is taken away, I am running on painkillers, spite, and whatever is left of my nervous system. Turns out Sorrell really was his surname, according to Collins' report.I would laugh if my throat didn't feel like someone had dragged a blade across the inside of it.Before sunrise, I am back in bed at the villa with fresh stitches, new medication, and enough people watching me to suggest that everyone thinks I might chase the federal convoy carrying Adrian. The thought has crossed my mind.Nora has changed into loose trousers and another one of my shirts. Her hair is tied messily behind her head, and one hand rests over her stomach while she scrolls through something on her phone.Collins is standing with Hayden near the windows, going through what was recovered from Sorrell. There are phones, financial records, storage drives, names, and enough evidence to keep several federal agencies busy for months. For the first time, I don't want to know every

  • 100 Days With My Nemesis   ~110~ BREAKING THE COMMAND

MARCELLUS His eyes go blank, and I know before he says another word that whatever version of Adrian I thought I knew has just died in front of me.He rises from the chair slowly, too calm for a man standing in the middle of a trap."You should lie down.""Who the hell are you?" I demand, ignoring his statement. His expression falters so slightly most people would miss it. I don't. I have spent half my life learning how dangerous people hide things. The fluorescent light hums overhead while he studies me, and then he exhales through his nose in disappointment."I had hoped we would have more time."My blood freezes over.He reaches into his coat. There are enough armed men behind these walls to turn him into meat before he can do much, but my body does not give a fuck about that. Every muscle goes rigid. His hand comes back out holding a pair of black gloves. And I recoil purely on instinct.Adrian pulls one glove over his hand, working the leather down each finger before doing

  • 100 Days With My Nemesis   ~109~ BAIT

MARCELLUS The new location is thirty-two minutes outside Las Vegas. It looks nothing like a medical facility. That is the point. From the road, it is a sprawling sandstone estate surrounded by desert, scrub, and enough empty land to make a man feel very alone.Inside, there are twenty-three armed personnel, four doctors, twelve cameras I can see, and seven I cannot.Nora stands beside the window while a nurse adjusts the IV in my arm. She has changed into loose trousers and one of my shirts because according to her, becoming pregnant has given her permission to steal the rest of my wardrobe. My eyes drop to her stomach. Nothing looks different. I still cannot stop looking. She catches me looking and winks. I've never been so flustered in my entire life.I reach for her hand. Then I remember why we're here. The warmth disappears.Outside this room, Collins is feeding reporters the second half of the story.'Marcellus Gregory is deteriorating and is being privately transferred.'A
