“The recovery process is going really well, even much better than I expected,” the doctor said while reviewing the X-ray results. “I think it’s safe now to switch to a brace.”
I didn’t understand why Damian brought me to a check-up for his hand this late at night after work. We could have done this tomorrow morning like usual.
[Hannah]“I tried to trace the timeline of when the rumor first surfaced. There were several accounts discussing it at the same time.”“Several? How many?”“More than five. Maybe ten? I didn’t count. And those accounts were shaping the narrative by making a large number of posts about you, hundreds, maybe thousands in total. Like buzzers.”Hannah felt like her chest was collapsing.“So many people hate me?”Hannah didn’t even know ten people well at the office. She could understand if some people didn’t like her, she wasn’t perfect. But to hate her this much?
[Hannah]A search for the keyword “Hannah” returned more than 1,000 posts. But that wasn’t all. They also talked about her using keywords like “HB,” “Homewrecker,” and other insults.Hannah barely blinked as she looked at the sheer volume of posts. Most of them were baseless and written in a degrading tone. And yet, most of the people writing them probably didn’t even know her.Her eyes moved quickly as she read through the posts.[Hannah Barker's in the boss's office again. Must be discussing quarterly reports for the third hour straight.][Boss got coffee. Hannah got coffee. Amazing synergy.][Just got back from 10th floor. She’s working late again. So dedicated.][Saw Hannah Barker leaving the office 10 minutes after the boss. Pure coincidence, obviously.][Funny how a business trip needs to include a new secretary who knows nothing.][Business trip agenda: meetings, networking, Hannah Barker.][Her boss deserves better. Rich man with terrible taste LOL][Hannah Barker should have
[Maria]“What do you think?”Damian forced me to give an answer even though I didn’t want to agree or refuse. It made me end up nodding in approval of his idea.“That’s a good idea,” I said while eating the chocolate mousse without looking him in the eyes.I looked down at my food, not checking his expression. Was he happy? Was he indifferent?“Maria.”He called me, making me flinch slightly.“Are you happy?”“This vacation is quite enjoyable, so, yes, I’m happy,” I replied without thinking.
[Maria]“I’m sorry. We were supposed to have other plans this afternoon, but we couldn’t do that,” he said while putting his clothes back on.“It’s alright.”It was also my fault for suddenly wearing it. That kind of outfit was meant to be seductive. Damian must have interpreted it that way.“You were…” he struggled to find the words.“It’s alright,” I repeated. He didn’t need to say anything more. I didn’t want to talk about it either.“You were so hot. And…” he turned his face away. “I couldn’t resist.”I lowered my head, hiding the smile forming on my lips.I bit my lip to steady myself. It wasn’t really a compliment, and I shouldn’t feel happy about it. It was just the effect of wearing lingerie. Which meant if Hannah Barker wore it, it would be very effective in seducing Damian.“So what are we doing next?” I changed the subject.“We were supposed to take a walk in the nearby park, but it’s almost dinner time now.”“Dinner? Where? At the hotel?”“No. I’ve already made a reservati
[Maria]We arrived in Mexico in the afternoon. Damian insisted on not telling me the itinerary, so I had no idea what we would be doing today or tomorrow. But at least, we would go to the hotel first to drop off our luggage, right?“Your hand is okay?” I asked shortly after landing.I remembered what the doctor said, that turbulence wasn’t good for it, even though the flight had been relatively smooth.“I’m fine.”Soon after, we were picked up by a chauffeur service and taken to the hotel. I wasn’t sure whether this was Damian’s choice or something Mr. Ed had arranged.
[Hannah]“I’ve been looking for it for days, but I still can’t find it.”Hannah walked over to Kevin, who was casually reading a book in his hands.“Are you sure you put it in the book?”“Yeah,” he replied indifferently, his eyes not leaving the page.“Kevin!” Hannah snatched the book from his hands. “This again. Why do you keep reading your comic books instead of looking for it?”“It’s manga.” Kevin took the book back. “I’m taking a break. I’m tired.”“I’m tired too!”“Then just go home. Nobody’s forcing you to find the username and password, right?”Hannah sighed. It was true that she was the one who needed it. But she was also tired because it felt like she was searching all by herself. This would probably be over much faster if Kevin were actually helping instead of suddenly getting distracted, moving to the sofa, and reading until he finished volume after volume.Kevin flipped a page. A small piece of paper was tucked inside.“Ah. Found it.”Hannah smiled brightly. The exhaustion
[Maria]I had just finished soaking in my private bathtub, a brief moment of relaxation before starting my day. The scent of aromatherapy candles spread through the bathroom, filling the air with the soothing fragrance
[Cecilia]The house had been noisy since early morning. There were the clatter of cooks preparing dishes, gardeners arranging orchids by the entrance, and maids who usually cleaned the house in silence. They were always busy when important days like this rolled around. The Wang family were used to a
[Maria]Damian wasn’t here when I woke up this morning. The curtains in my room were still closed even though it was already 10 a.m. There were no sounds of a vacuum cleaner or footsteps in the hallway. The maid probably hadn’t come up to the second floor yet.I splashed water on my face at the sink
[Hannah]The same bakery, the same scent of butter, yet today it felt so much better than before. Why was that? Because today was her last day working there. No, Hannah was not even working. Why would she, when her boss refused to pay the remainder of her salary just because Hannah resigned in the m
