POV Darien

Standing by the Alpha and Luna we all awaited further instructions. The patrol members are noticeably on edge but taking some comfort in how relaxed the Alpha and Luna are.

Alpha Aiden voice comes through. “I need you, a few trusted patrols and a good tracker to stay behind. Quietly, Luna and Eric have enough going on without worrying what we are up to. Gather by the crossroads and stay hidden. I will meet up with you when Eric is safely on his way back.”

“What are we up to Alpha?”

“This girl didn’t just fall out of the sky, she came from somewhere and as young as she is I doubt she traveled here alone.”

Our territory is over 100 miles from the next pack making attacking us inconvenient but not impossible. Mostly rogues and the occasional scholar seeking Miss Evens for lore and knowledge came across our boarders but this area makes everyone nervous.

Wandering through the waiting pack members I gave a few of the worriers orders on where to meet. The best tracker here is a young boy name Nicolas, his talent came naturally and with further education he would one day be the best in the pack. I made my way over to him as his ability to keep him mind closed was still lacking.

“I need a word with you.” I whispered.

Nicolas followed me away from the others. “A few of the others will be hanging back and meeting up with the Alpha and I. Stick with them, we are going to see if we can find where this girl has been hiding.

This is a big responsibility and opportunity to prove yourself. Are you up for it?”

Nicolas’s sandy brown wolf Micco shifted his weight from one paw to the other while Nicolas’s answered confidently. “I won’t let you down sir.”

Watching as Eric scooped the child up and followed the Alpha to the road. The Luna packed her robe back into a bag and made her way over to me. “You keep them safe.” She whispered knowingly to me before shifting and leading the others towards the border.

“Can’t keep anything from that woman.” Alex stated with a huff.

“She would have ordered us to look if she didn’t think the Alpha had already.” I replied.

The five of us waited and watched as Alpha and Eric disappeared into the tree line while Luna and the rest of the patrol took to the left side of the lake eventually disappearing from view.

We made our way to the tree line, staying far enough back as to not be noticed. Making plans on how we would search the area Nicolas asked the question we had all been avoiding. “Are we searching the caves?”

All eyes snapped to me. “We will follow her trail wherever that might lead us.” We all know the stories about the caves and were all to happy to keep our distance. Now was not the time to give in to myths and legends.

The pack lands were originally the home to Abigail and her tribe. Considered sacred no one really knows how Alpha Marcus came to own it. The town on the lake is built over the rival tribes land.

Legend has it the first Alpha was driven mad by the curse, taking members of his pack into the caves. He used a mixture he procured from another witch to hold them in wolf form then skinned them alive in an attempt to sever the tie to the human form. It didn’t work but generations continued the ritual as a form of punishment or torture. They say you can hear the screams of their victims echoing through the caves and their spirits dance on the lake on foggy nights.

Alpha Aiden joined us, looking the group over he seemed displeased but stopping on Micco he signed and seemed ready. “Micco, lead the way.”

Under cover of darkness Micco began retracing the girls path. Around the trees first to a small spring in a clearing then twisting around till he came to the uphill climb at the base of the mountain. Micco looked to the Alpha but Aiden’s intent was unwavering.

Making our way up the hillside Micco stopped at the first cave entrance. You could feel the air being sucked inside. The sound of the wind moving through the opening sounded haunted. Like wheezing, gasping for air.

Micco stepped inside, the rest of us waited as he disappeared into the dark abyss. Seconds ticking by like hours before his eyes could be seen shining, making his way back to the exit he walked out and shuddered. “She was here but not for long.” He said. Looking up at the Alpha, he just nodded.

We pressed on the next few caves we came to were shallow. Able to see the whole inside with sunrise creeping up on us. Micco and Nicolas were visibly relieved at not having to venture into them. With dawn now fully upon us we covered the terrain with greater speed and urgency. Micco quickly disappearing into the cave mouths only to return shaking his head. We could tell she had been in this area but none so far were what we were looking for.

Mid morning had passed and the afternoon was approaching, Alpha Aiden was about to call the search for the time being. We had all been up through the night and a few could no longer hide their fatigue.

Alpha came to a stop on the path waiting for the other four of us to catch up to him. Bringing up the rear of the search I approached the others just in time to see Micco disappear off the path.

“I think we’ve been at this long enough for today. Beta have a fresh group ready to begin the search tonight.”

Gagging noises echoed from behind Alpha Aiden. The sound of paws running bounced off cave walls before turning into the sound of bare feet slapping on stone. Nicolas burst from behind the nearby bushes before collapsing to his knees and violently vomiting.

POV Juxes We combed through the bunker like robbers looking for valuables. Grabbing one book and skimming through it before tossing it aside and grabbing the next. The pile of books growing by the minute. Candice stopping as she was walking in. “Miss Evens would be so pissed. She’s going to haunt us all for this mess.” She giggled. “Her ghost will just have to wait and maybe she would understand. She did always have a soft spot for Eric and Thea.” Nicolas said with a shrug. “Do you think she knew they were mates?” Thomas asked. “It’s doubtful.” I grumbled, waving my hand at them implying they need to get back at it. Thomas still walking around with a piece of jerky hanging out of his mouth. I swear he’s eaten half his body weight by now. Was taking small vials off one of the book cases and smelling each one, then reading the label. His hand bumped a small glass vial with a glass cork holding in its contents. As the black tar like substance oozed out of the jar, Thomas threw

POV Eric Braxton slammed forward taking control in an instant. His large hands almost crushing the vial before dropping it onto the bed. Eyes scanning the room as he in hailed deeply. His nose scrunching with each large sniff. Thea’s scent still lingered heavily throughout the room, he rolled his shoulders popping the vertebrae between his shoulder blades as the scent of vampire blood burned his nostrils. Turning his head to the side and scrunching his face as a small whiff of something almost Krissy but not quite came through. Only realizing now that I had caught the scent in the courtyard. I remembered the huddle of Lycans there. I reminded him to pick up the vial before leaving the room. “No!” He said plainly, turning to leave. “Must I remind you, the King will cut off parts of us we are fairly attached to should it be misplaced.” I told him. “I won’t give it to her.” He growled. “I’m not saying we do, I’m just saying we can’t leave it here.” I pleaded. With a gr

POV Thea Eyes closed, my limbs feeling heavy. The sound of a child’s laughter came to me in the distance. Like a tv had been left on in another room, I could hear it but couldn’t quite make out the words. A sharp scent hit my nose making me gag and my eyes jolt open. Krissy sat on my chest making it hard to breathe. Her face inches from mine. Her black eyes swirling with hints of every color. “You can’t sleep now.” She whispered. A low growl rumbled in her chest as she spoke. Her voice not quite her own. Moving my head back I tried to move far enough away for my eyes to focus. I could hear the sound of one of her claws elongating before cutting into the skin on my collar bone. “Ow, what the fuck Krissy.” I hissed bringing my hand up to check the bleeding. She leaned back putting her full weight on my stomach. Raising her hand to her mouth she licked the blood from her nail. A mischievous crooked grin slowly forming on her face. Watching in amazement as her swirling black

POV Eric Nervously leading Thea into my quarters, I placed the books down on my small table. I would show her around but there wasn’t much to see. A king sized bed with a small metal frame, an oversized chair and a reading nook by the window made up the entirety of my world here. She yawned heavily, the sedative I had put in her food beginning to take effect. “It doesn’t look like much but it’s very comfortable.” I told her, patting the bed. She was hesitant at first I moved away from the bed giving her some space. She yawned again. “I don’t know why I’m so tired all of a sudden.” She said sleepily. As she yawned the third time I knew she was fighting sleep, no doubt uneasy with being in my room. I needed her out and soon, Francis was pushing hard to get the serum in her. I understood once she had her powers it would be harder to make her stay but I wanted so badly to not have to make her. Why Francis was so insistent she take it was beyond me. She’s the Lunar wolf, a perfect b

  • The Rogue Queen   Chapter 55

POV Juxes The lights clicked on eliminating the bunker. The layout was interesting but not surprising, taking on the appearance of mansion style formal sitting room. The entrance had been hidden from us but Miss Evens had obviously spent a large portion of her time here. Not a speck of dust could be found and everything was neatly in its place. The only thing not where it belongs was a blueprint laying across one of the chairs. The corner had an address, totaling 10 pages spanning 200 years. It was the same building but each page illustrated a addition of some sort. We spread out looking for anything useful. I tried making sense of the blueprints but couldn’t understand most of it. For the first time I reached out for Aiden, he knew more about this than I did and I now regretted not paying attention when he had plans drawn up for the ski lodge. Nicolas found his way to one of the many bookcases. Running his hands over the rows he shuttered. “Are all these books made of skin?”

  • The Rogue Queen   Chapter 54

POV Thea The first book he handed me looked very old, the pages were mismatched and you could tell it had been repaired in one way or another several times. “This is Francis’s journal, he wrote down everything he remembers happening. He started right after he built the main building here. To keep record of what happened before. It only seemed right considering Alabaster had begun writing his own version of how it all started.” He said with a sort. “Was he there?” I asked. “Alabaster? No, he was human. Joan’s mate and when they took off, him and Joan started making up their own version of the beginning.” Eric said. Flipping through the pages he found what he was looking for and stopped. Tapping his finger on the page. “We were told that Abigail refused the spirits deal. That she wouldn’t sacrifice a child to have one of her own.” “Her husband did.” I stated. “No! She wouldn’t sacrifice a child from her tribe. She made a deal with Francis, one of his tribes children and in r
