Run

I found myself in a slightly loosed cage when I woke up. I immediately clenched my fist in anger at how they left me there like an animal, do they think am like them? Stifling a yawn, I studied my surroundings, noting that it was dawn already. I could hear the werewolves eating and laughing from a distance, but there was no one in my line of sight.

Glancing at my loose cage, my brows couldn't help but crease slightly. Is this some kind of test? Or do they think that, as humans, I'm incapable of escaping without their consent?

Oh, well, I won't give up any chances.

Luckily, they didn't chain my leg or anything, I quickly took out the knife under my hoodie, quietly pushed the iron bars of the cage and without looking back, I ran.

Scanning the area, I decided to dash for the trees as they will help cover me from prying eyes. What I didn't know was, that I was heading directly toward their camp.

A twig snapped suddenly, causing me to freeze on the spot. Heart thudding, I held my breath while using a tree to shield my body. Fear gripped me. Cold sweat trickled down my back as I strained my ears to listen. At the same time, checking to see if I could pick up any emotions close by.

My mind couldn't help but wonder what will happen if I get caught. And what will happen if I succeeded in escaping. Where will I go? I can't possibly go back to Blake's house, right? Shaking those thoughts from my head, I decided to focus on the task at hand first.

A few minutes passed. When I heard no movement in the trees, I continued running through the woods, hoping to find a way that leads to town.

Suddenly, a giant figure appeared in my front as I was running, causing me to bump into him.

My heart skipped. Without being told, I knew it was a wolf.

Hoisting myself backward, I was about to run in the other direction when I heard footsteps heading towards us. In no time, I was surrounded by a big hairy-looking beast with yellow eyes! I almost fainted as their eyes stayed fixated on me as they snarled.

I gulped, paralyzed by fear. Good lord, they finally caught up with me. It didn't take long at all!

Spinning around, I grabbed the man in front of me, placing my knife on his neck. “Don't come closer, or I'll kill him!” I threatened, my eyes darting around. I didn't know if they can understand me but seeing as they froze, I reckoned they understood me clearly.

One of the wolves shifted back to his human form, making me stare at him in shock. The man was completely naked!

My face turned crimson, I quickly averted my gaze by pressing the knife deeply against the man's neck. “I'm serious! If you take a step closer, he will be dead.”

“Alpha… I, we didn't expect her to escape…” the man said respectively, ignoring the fact that I didn't just threaten them.

Wait, Alpha?

My eyes flew to the man in question, and my heart stopped. My brows creased at the sight of him smiling down at me. Due to our proximity, I could not help but notice that this person possessed a rare, exotic, and heart stopping beautiful smile.

Taking a closer look at his features, I realized his face was also exotic, his cat-like eyes shaded with thick dark lashes, and all his features were almost immobilizing. His features were entirely different from what I have imagined. If it wasn't for the intimidating, dark, and cold aura surrounding him, I would have mistaken him for an angel. Aren't werewolves supposed to be hideous looking? Why is he so beautiful?

No, why was he smiling at her like that? Can't he see his life is at my mercy?

“What are you smiling at? Tell your boys to back off!” I demanded with a fierce gaze, cold and urgent.

If this doesn't work out the way I want, then I will be finished.

“Now or else…” I warned, pushing the blade further onto his neck until a tiny bit of red leaked onto his tanned skin. I thought he wasn't going to obey, but he did. He gave a curt nod to the wolves. They growled at me before running into the woods.

My eye glinted in exhilaration. It's working! Just a bit more and I'll be out of here. Hardening my expression, I nodded at Alpha. “Your turn, move. Point me in the direction of the closest town.” I commanded coldly.

Instead of moving, the Alpha suddenly took a step closer, ignoring the blade piercing into his. His gaze was very calm and steady like he wasn't feeling any pain.

My hand trembled. “Stop! Don't come any closer or else –”

“Or else what?”

“I'll strangle you… to death.” Even as I said that I lessened the hold on the knife because I'm certain that if he dies, I'll die too.

The Alpha smiled again. This time, he flashed a smile that was rare and exotic. The smile sent chills down my spine.

“Oh, that… I know you can't do what you claim, my dear little red,” he replied without even a hint of doubt in his voice. “You haven't killed anyone yet with those untainted hands of yours.”

My eyes widened as I watched him vigilantly, stopped as he stood so close to me. He was standing so close…

He shook his head as he shrugged his shoulder elegantly. “I could tell. For one, you are holding the knife wrongly, two your stance is so poor, three, your heart is pounding so fast, I could hear it miles away. Tell me something, red, have you killed any live thing before?”

“Just because I have never killed before doesn't mean I can't kill now,” I said, my voice hard and firm. “And it doesn't mean I am not willing to do so now… so, I'll only say it one last time, point me in the direction of the next town.”

Instead of answering, he leaned forward to whisper. “Do you know what happens to anyone who raises a weapon against me? They die after undergoing numerous pieces of torture. But you know what little red? I will let you go.”

I blinked in surprise. Seriously? Just like that? That wasn't how I was expecting this to end.

“However, I will come after you, and if I do manage to catch you… I will break you. You'll become mine!”

And just like that, he pried the knife out of my hands and threw it in a certain direction. I tried to sense his emotions to see if he was telling the truth, but I sensed nothing. It was just like a brick of the wall.

He smirked as if knowing what I'm doing. “I know what you are, it doesn't work on me. I will advise you to run little red, run before I change my mind!” with that he strode away from me, leaving me alone in the woods with my mouth hanging in shock.

How the hell does he know what I am? I've never told anyone before, not even my friends know about it.

Chills ran down my back when I realize how dangerous this Alpha was. He's like a poisonous snake hiding behind a beautiful smile.

Walking to the place he threw the knife, I picked it up while replaying his last words in my head. ‘I will come after you…’

For some unknown reason, my body shudder at the words. The little time I spent with him made me realize the Alpha isn't just anyone that makes promises, and if he does eventually... I have a terrible feeling that he will stick with it. But why does my body react to it differently than it should?
