Chapter 103 _ A Great Loss _ or not

“This…this is all because of Vicky,” he said bitterly, pacing out of the bathroom and into the living room. “It’s the stress. All this madness. The insults. The drama. You’ve been in and out of tears for weeks.”

Valerie didn’t say anything. She stayed where she was, staring at the spot of blood on the tiled floor that hadn’t been cleaned yet.

“She’s been attacking you from every angle,” Williams continued, voice rising as he walked in circles. “The press, the office, the house—always on edge! You didn’t deserve this. You didn’t deserve any of it.”

She could hear the anger bubbling in his voice, the blame shifting heavily to Vicky as if it were the only thing he could hold on to. But Valerie didn’t flinch. She didn’t respond. She simply reached for a cloth and began to clean the floor around her.

A quiet fury brewed in her chest, but it didn’t look like sadness anymore. She moved with a certain calmness—like someone who had crossed a line and

Chapter 115: This is me . VICKY As I walked out of the boardroom, I didn’t expect the sudden burst of attention.“Great presentation.”“That was impressive.”“Truly unexpected—well done.”One by one, members of the board nodded at me with new respect. The planning team, now suddenly humble, approached me like school kids who’d been caught cheating on an exam.“I… I just wanted to say we’re sorry,” one of them said, not meeting my eyes. “We shouldn’t have dismissed you like that. You handled it like a pro.”I smiled politely, even though part of me wanted to roll my eyes. “Thank you,” I said. “It’s all good. We got the job done.”They moved along. Then, of course, came Sienna. She stood in front of me, arms folded lightly. “Hmm. Nice presentation,” she said, voice cool.“Thanks,” I replied, holding her gaze without blinking. There was a long pause. The air between us felt stiff, like a wire being pulled too tight. Then she tilted her head, and with no emotion at all, she said, “Did y

Chapter 114: Sink or Salvage . VICKY. The call with Williams had left my hands shaking. That bastard had done it—he took the file, and there was nothing I could do about it now. No proof. No time. Just chaos.I stepped back into the room and was met with the same thing I left: panic.“The board is already arriving!”“What are we supposed to say?”“Six months of work—gone!”They all spoke at once, voices flying over each other like angry birds. No one was making sense. And worst of all, Rue was gone—off to welcome the board members. I was standing alone in a room full of jittery adults who suddenly wanted me to become the solution to a problem I didn’t create.“Please!” I raised my voice. “One person at a time!”They quieted—barely.“The file is missing! That’s it!” one of them snapped. “We can’t present anything without it.”“You think I don’t know that?” I replied, trying hard to keep my voice steady.Another voice cut through. “Why is she even the one running this? She’s not even

Chapter 113: MissingIt was now one hour to the board meeting. The file was still missing.I was beginning to feel like the walls were closing in. The planning team had found out, and their panic was worse than mine. For six whole months, they had poured themselves into that document—sleepless nights, endless revisions, site visits, budget breakdowns, timelines… everything. Now it was gone. Just like that. They weren’t even trying to hide their anger. I could hear them from their office—throwing blames like darts. Every few minutes, a new one would storm into mine.“How could you misplace it?”“You should have handed it in the moment you got it.”“Do you even know how important that file is?”Julia tried to calm them down. But her voice was drowned in the noise. She looked tired, too. Guilty, maybe. She kept wringing her hands and pacing, muttering that she had checked everywhere and she didn’t even leave the floor yesterday. To make it worse, the surveillance footage was useless.“Th

Chapter 112 Where Did It Go? Vicky’s POV I had barely stepped out of the cemetery gate when my phone rang. I glanced at the screen—Julia. What now? “Hello?” I said, pressing the phone to my ear. “Vicky, you need to come to the office. Right now.” I blinked. “What? Why? I just told Rue I was taking a day off.” “There’s a big problem,” Julia said, her voice shaky. “What kind of problem?” “I… I can’t say over the phone. Just come, please.” I pulled the phone away for a second and stared at it. What was she even talking about? I immediately dialed Rue. “Hey… Julia just called. Said something’s wrong at the office. Did something happen?” “No,” Rue replied, confused. “Nothing I know of. Everything’s fine here. What did she say happened?” “She didn’t say anything specific. Just that there’s a big problem.” “Hmm.” He sighed. “Well, if it was serious, I’d know.” That only made it worse. Why was she dragging me out on my rest day if Rue, the actual boss, didn’t even know? I hung

Chapter 111: People VICKYRue didn’t leave. He didn’t ask to stay either—he just made it clear with his body, his touch, the way he gently tucked the blanket around both of us. I was curled into his chest, his arm around my shoulders, my breathing finally beginning to slow as the nightmare faded into the corners of the room.He started talking. Not about what happened. Not about the dream. Just soft stories, Something to remove my mind from the worry , i was grateful for it . “I used to be so scared of the dark when I was a kid,” he whispered with a small chuckle. “Like, irrationally scared. I’d make Grandma sleep with the light on—and I’d tell her it was for her sake, not mine.”I let out a weak laugh, and he smiled at the sound of it. His hand stroked through my hair, slow and steady.“I once tried to run away from home because she grounded me,” he said again, resting his chin lightly on my head. “I packed two biscuits, my drawing book, and a toy car. Made it as far as the mango t

Chapter 110: My Dreams are just Dreams . Day 35/365 VICKY. I stood by thedoor, smiling like a complete fool as Rue walked to his side. We both paused at our opposite doors. I gave a small wave.“Goodnight,” I said softly. He smiled back. “Goodnight, Vicky.”I don’t even remember opening my door. I just ran inside like a child who had just been given candy and didn’t know how to act.As soon as the door shut behind me, I grabbed the closest pillow and buried my face into it. Then I screamed. A quiet scream. A muffled, crazy, giddy, confused, panicked scream.“What was that?” I whispered to myself, pulling the pillow tighter.I threw it on the bed and began pacing my room like someone had just dropped a bombshell in the middle of my chest. And maybe they had.Rue was in love with me. Not like, maybe. Not like, possibly. No. He was in love with me. And tonight made that very clear. He said ten dates. Ten more dates until I finally agree to be with him. I said yes. I said yes. I agreed
