~~~Declan~~~
The flight landed a little after six in the morning, local time, the sky outside the window still bruised with early gray light. I turned my phone back on the second the wheels touched down, half expecting a wall of missed calls from my father, bracing myself for whatever fresh wave of consequences waited on the other side of airplane mode.
Nothing came through. No calls. No messages. Just silence, which somehow felt worse than a hundred angry texts would have.
    ~~~Declan~~~The flight landed a little after six in the morning, local time, the sky outside the window still bruised with early gray light. I turned my phone back on the second the wheels touched down, half expecting a wall of missed calls from my father, bracing myself for whatever fresh wave of consequences waited on the other side of airplane mode.Nothing came through. No calls. No messages. Just silence, which somehow felt worse than a hundred angry texts would have.I told myself it didn't mean anything. I told myself a lot of things on the drive from the airport back to the apartment my father had arranged for me, staring out the window at streets that still didn't feel like they belonged to me no matter the duration I spent walking them.The apartment felt different the second I stepped through the door. Too quiet, too still, like the air itself had shifted while I was gone. I set my bag down and reached for the light switch, and that's when I noticed the first thing wrong.

    ~~~Soraya~~~Declan's plane had been in the air for exactly forty minutes when my phone buzzed for the first time.Unknown number.‘Wonder how long it takes him to disappear again this time.’My stomach dropped straight through the airport floor. Maya's arm tightened around my shoulders, and I realized she'd read it over my shoulder at the exact same second I had."Ignore it," she said, though her voice had gone tight and careful. "Whoever this is, as usual they want a reaction. Don't give into it."I shoved the phone into my bag and let Caleb steer us toward the exit, the fluorescent airport lights blurring past as my mind raced through everything I refused to let myself think about too closely. Whoever was doing this had known, almost immediately, that Declan was gone. That kind of timing wasn't luck. That kind of timing meant somebody was watching close enough to know exactly when I'd be alone.We got back to campus a little before dark. Maya insisted on walking me straight to my d
    ~~~Declan~~~I read the text three times before I finally set her phone down, my jaw tight enough to ache.‘Careful who you trust, Soraya. Not everyone smiling in your face wants you to make it out of this.’"You need to be careful," I said, sitting on the edge of her bed, my hand finding hers automatically. "Whoever's sending these knows exactly how to unsettle you. Don't let it get inside your head about people who've actually earned your trust.""I know," Her voice was quiet, careful in a way that told me the message had already gotten further under her skin than she wanted to admit. "I just don't know who to actually believe anymore.""Believe the people who show up," I said. "Maya flew to the hospital the second she heard. Caleb hasn't left your side in weeks. That's not nothing, Soraya. Whoever's doing this wants you isolated. Don't give them that."She nodded slowly, though I could still see the doubt sitting behind her eyes, quiet and unwelcome. I didn't push further. I'd l

    ~~~Soraya~~~We found Riley at her usual table near the back of the dining hall, tray untouched in front of her, scrolling through her phone like the entire campus wasn't currently on fire because of her."We need to talk," Declan said, stopping directly across from her, arms crossed.Riley looked up slowly, one eyebrow lifting at the sight of the three of us me on crutches, Declan tense as a livewire, Caleb hovering a step behind like he was bracing for something to go sideways fast."Oh wow." She set her phone down, unbothered. "The whole squad. What'd I do this time?""Cut the act," I said, my voice sharper than I meant it to come out. "We know it's you. The account. The rumor.""What rumor?" She said eyeing me from top to bottom."Don't," My hands tightened around the crutch grips. "The photo on the account header. It's the same one you used to post constantly last year. Same angle of the rink, same everything."Something flickered across Riley's face, confusion instead of the gui
    ~~~Soraya~~~The campus felt different the next morning, and it took me half the walk to the athletic building to figure out why. It wasn't the crutches slowing me down, or the ache still radiating up through my leg with every careful step. It was the way people looked at me now. Quick glances that snapped away the second I caught them, conversations that dropped half a register whenever I got close enough to actually hear them.Declan walked beside me the whole way, his hand hovering near my elbow without actually touching me, ready to catch me if the crutches slipped on the wet pavement. He hadn't said much since we left my dorm, his jaw set in the same tight line it had held since Maya found that account the night before.Two girls near the fountain stopped talking entirely as we passed. One of them didn't quite manage to look away fast enough."Ignore it," Declan said quietly, without me having to say anything at all."I'm trying." My words came out crackedWe made it to the athlet

    ~~~Soraya~~~Physical therapy started that morning, my first real session since the surgery, and it turned out to be its own particular kind of misery. The therapist had me doing small, careful movements with my leg, nothing dramatic, but every single one of them ached in a way that made me grit my teeth and stare hard at the ceiling until it passed."You're doing great," she said, adjusting the angle of my knee slightly. "Better range of motion than I expected this early.""Feels like the opposite of great," I muttered, and she laughed, unbothered, clearly used to patients who complained through every single rep.Maya sat in the corner the entire session, scrolling through something on her phone, occasionally looking up to wince sympathetically whenever I made a particularly pained noise. Caleb showed up halfway through with coffee for both of them, setting Maya's down on the little table beside her without a word, the way he'd started doing so often now that it barely registered as a
