Broken Fish

Purity sat on the shower floor using the showerhead with one hand to rinse her body after washing it the best she could.

The murmured sound of Lasci’s voice and the other brother, Pru, could barely be heard through the door.

She could hear the comment and reaction to being put in a different room. It made her feel bad. Purity never in her life would have thought this could happen. She grew up very fortunate, raised by her grandmother, always escaping those moments when something could have happened or even killed her. But now, here she was with a hurt leg and wrist.

“Guess your good luck has all run out, Purity Jones,” she said softly.
