I stared at the emergency alert on my phone, barely able to contain my relief.

It had happened exactly as I remembered.

The government had finally acknowledged the approaching cold storm, even if they still believed it was something they could control.

The storm was only the beginning.

“Miss Hayes?”

Lucian’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

I raised the phone to my ear.

“Yes, Mr. Vale?”

“How did you know?”

I looked at the notification again.

“You’ll learn over time.”

“That isn’t an answer.”

Chapter 12“Excuse me!”The man had already turned toward his vehicle when Amelia called out.He stopped but didn’t immediately turn around.Amelia walked a few steps closer, keeping a reasonable distance between them.“Is there something you need?”He turned to face her.“There seemed to have been a misunderstanding…. I’m not supposed to be here.”His expression remained unreadable. With what had been happening for the past few hours, Amelia had her guard up.“I don’t think there’s any misunderstanding? You also don’t seem lost.”“What exactly would you like me to explain?”“For starters, your name.”He looked at her for a moment. Then he glanced at his wristwatch.“That isn’t necessary.”Amelia raised an eyebrow.“Isn’t it? You just trespassed on my private property, I believe all my suspicions are necessary.”“I’m not here to cause you any trouble.”“That’s reassuring but unfortunately it doesn’t answer my question.”He said nothing.Amelia studied him, there was nothing weird or s

Chapter 11I couldn’t understand what was happening.I quickly called the number without thinking, to my surprise the automated voice informed me that the number I had dialed did not exist.“What exactly is going on…” I murmured to myself quietly.I checked the number that texted me again to check if I had mistakenly called the wrong number.I checked again and again but there was no mistake… the number that had texted me, was the same number I was calling and now the number seems to be nonexistent.I lowered my phone and stared at the screen. That was impossible. Someone had sent me a message from that number less than five minutes ago.I tried once more, hoping the previous calls had been some kind of error.Nothing changed.“The apocalypse isn’t waiting for anyone.”I read the message again.Who knew about the apocalypse? Was it possible that someone else had returned to the past, just as I had? Someone who remembered the disasters and everything that followed?Or had I made an ene

My face was still plastered on the TV as I tried to catch my breath. My name appeared beneath the picture, followed by a figure representing the profit I had supposedly made from Voltrex Systems. The presenter called it an extraordinary investment decision.I had expected the shares to rise. I remembered the announcement from my previous life, the rush of investors, and the fortunes made almost overnight. What I hadn’t expected was for it to happen this soon. What if this announcement happened earlier ?Might something be changing ?I had been relying on my memories to prepare for the apocalypse. My knowledge was my greatest advantage, but if the timeline was shifting, I couldn’t afford to treat every remembered event as a guarantee.I needed to be more careful. My phone continued ringing, it was Ethan, I declined the call.It rang again almost immediately, it was my sister , I declined the call too.I exchanged a glance with Lucian before finally taking my leave.By the time I reache

Lucian Vale disliked unanswered questions, and Amelia had given him plenty. She was basically becoming a problem. When he had the doorbell ring, he quickly turned off the stove , wiped his hands and went to open the door.“Good evening Mr Vale” Amelia said awkwardly as she twirled the ring in her middle finger.“I’m surprised you actually came.”“Well you did invite me .”“Yeah I did… come in,” he nodded.Amelia entered his penthouse, her attention briefly wandering over the dark walnut furniture, black marble surfaces, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. Warm lighting softened the darker interiors, giving the place an unexpected sense of intimacy.“Your home is beautiful.” She complimented.“Thank you, I was just making dinner for myself.”She smiled and asked him,“You cook?”“Is that surprising ?”“A little.”“Maybe the taste of my food will make you change your mind.”Amelia giggled softly while Lucian returned to the kitchen to serve the steak he had prepared earli

Chapter 7Her eyes widened.“What did you say?”“You ungrateful woman! After everything my son has done for you, you think you can humiliate him and walk into this house as if nothing happened?”I let out a short laugh.“Everything he has done for me?”“Watch your mouth!”She raised her hand again. This time, I caught her wrist before she could strike me.Her eyes widened in disbelief.“Let go of me!”I held her hand away from my face.“Don’t ever hit me again.”“You dare threaten me in my own house?”I released her wrist and stepped back.“Then perhaps you should remember that I won’t be living here much longer.”She stared at me, breathing heavily.“You’re going to regret this, Amelia.”I looked at the woman who had spent years making me feel small.“No,” I replied. “I regret the years I wasted living in this house.”I walked past her, leaving her standing among the broken pieces of glass.I locked myself inside my bedroom and leaned against the door. My cheek had still stung from t
