Chapter 13

Mia

One thousand and one thoughts ran through my head as Gerald led me to one of the booths at the bar.

He was looking for me? That made absolutely zero sense—or maybe it did. Maybe this was one of those ridiculous movie moments where the guy you've secretly had a crush on suddenly shows up because he's finally realized he's in love with you.

Ohhh, that would be good.

I might have sworn off hockey players, but not basketball players. Certainly not Gerald.

He was perfect. Tall, curly

Chapter 15Mia I woke up irritated, annoyed, and with the realization that I'd left my purse, containing my credit card, in the car of the person I was currently irritated and annoyed with.Great, now I had to drive to Scott's place.I quickly showered and dressed in a hoodie and sweatpants and made my way to his place using Stacey's car.I got to Scott's place twenty minutes later and knocked. No answer. His car was still in his driveway, which meant he was most likely still home.I turned the doorknob, and the door opened. As soon as it did.I almost tripped on a shirt.I rolled my eyes. What kind of moron left his clothes on the floor at the door?“Scott?” I called out, no answer.I walked towards where I thought was the bedroom.I had never really been inside his place before. The only time I had come here was when Reid had driven me here.I opened the door and froze.A woman wearing nothing but a towel stood in the hallway. My eyes widened.“Who the hell are you?”“Mia?”Scott

Chapter 14Scott I drove back to the bar as soon as I dropped Mia off, too pissed to even go home. Why I'd ever agreed to this was still fucking beyond me.This was all the coach's fault. If he hadn't pushed this ridiculous fake-dating arrangement on me, I wouldn't be dealing with Mia, Gerald, Zara, or the fucking mess in my head right now.I dragged a hand over my face. Why was I even pissed? Why was I surprised?Mia always found a way to make me feel like an asshole.First, there was the whole Zara situation. Now Gerald. And Gerald had practically been giving her fuck-me eyes while she wasn't exactly looking at him innocently either.I needed a drink.“Whiskey on the rocks.” I said to Pamela, one of the bartenders at the bar.“Coming up, handsome.”I couldn't even find it in me to smile at a beautiful woman complimenting me.“Here you go.” She said, I locked eyes for only a second. She had one of the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. Heterochromia was what she had. She had one b

Maybe this was one of those ridiculous movie moments where the guy you've secretly had a crush on suddenly shows up because he's finally realized he's in love with you.Ohhh, that would be good.I might have sworn off hockey players, but not basketball players. Certainly not Gerald. He was perfect. Tall, curly hair, brown eyes, and a jawline that could cut diamonds. I'd imagined him naked a few times, and I didn't feel even a little bad about it.“What would you like to drink?”He asked.“Oh, I still have my drink.” I showed him as if he couldn't see.“I know. I want to get you a drink.”He said and then waved a waitress over. “The lady will have one of what she's drinking.”“Of course, Gerald.” The waitress smiled.“And the gentleman will have what?” She asked.“”Anything you think I'd like.”“Sure

Chapter 12MiaI whipped my head to the door and found Scott standing there holding a bag of pastries and coffee.I quickly stood up straight.“What the hell are you doing here?” I seethed.“Who let you in?” I demanded.“I got you coffee and some pastries.” he said, showing me the package I paused to look at it and then at him. Then he stood and collected. “Thank you. Now you can go now.”“What?” his eyes widened."You think coffee and pastries are going to make everything you said to me disappear?”He ran a hand through his hair. “No, of course not. It's more like a peace offering. I'm sorry.”“What are you even sorry for? Do you have the slightest idea why the fuck I'm even upset?”He sighed. “I was out of line with that comment I made. I guess I wasn't thinking.”“Thinking what?” I pushed, folding my hands against my chest.“Thinking about your feelings. You're brilliant, Mia, and I shouldn't have made it sound like your success had anything to do with your looks.”.I sighed. I h

Chapter 10Scott I drove home, still confused about what I'd done to Mia.I had thought about following her and apologizing, but what exactly would I be apologizing for? I'd only told her the truth.Maybe I could have worded things differently, but it was honestly ridiculous that she didn't see Chris's obvious attraction to her. You'd have to be blind not to.I finally pulled up in the driveway of my apartment just outside campus and stepped out. As soon as I closed my car door, I made my way to my front door and opened the door and then entered my living room.Something felt off.I couldn't exactly put my fingers on it.I stiffened when I spotted a plate sitting on the kitchen counter, one I knew I hadn't left there.Had it been my housekeeper?Probably.I carefully made my way to my bedroom.I opened the door and froze.Sprawled across my bed in nothing but a sorry excuse for panties was Kate, one of my former flings.“What the fuck?”“Hey baby.” She purred.“Are you insane?" I gr

Chapter 10MiaI could hardly believe my luck.I stared at the card in my hand, almost afraid that if I blinked, the opportunity would disappear.“Really?”Chris smiled. “Really. We’re always looking for talent like you. Plus, you’re sharp, bold, and daring. That’s exactly what the journalism world needs.”My fingers tightened around the card.“Wow. Thank you so much.” I smiled, still trying to process what had just happened. “You have no idea how huge this is for me.”We continued to talk for another hour. Chris offered to pay for our food before we left.“I have to say that was a pretty amazing night.” I said as Scott ignited the engine of the car.“Yeah, great night.”I frowned and glanced at him.“You don't seem awfully enthusiastic.”"No, I am.”“For someone who just met the commissioner of the NHL, you don't.”“It's just, I don't think he actually cares about me," he admitted.I frowned in confusion.“Maybe not you but definitely your career. He looked impressed by you to me.”S
