Chapter 22

Scott

I should have kissed her.

That was the thought that kept running through my head as I got ready for the game.

It was a bad idea. A fucking stupid idea, actually. But knowing that didn't make me want to kiss her any less.

Mia had looked so fucking good last night.

It had been hard to look away.

If she hadn't moved, I was pretty sure I would have done something that would be hard to explain to Reid.

She didn't look opposed to kissing me either, which was ridiculous

Chapter 31 Mia Scott left shortly after. He said he was going to sleep in Liam's room, and he'll be back in the morning. He mentioned giving me space. As soon as he left, I regretted it. I wasn't sure exactly what I regretted. Stopping him? Letting it happen at all? Both? That had been intense. My body still remembered every single touch. Every single groan and moan. I buried my face in my hands. “Fuck.” What had I been thinking? Mia! Scott and I weren't supposed to do that. We were fake dating. Fake. And he was an asshole. He was my brother's best friend. So why had kissing him felt so fucking good? So right? I fell back onto the bed and stared at the ceiling. I could still remember the way he'd looked at me before he kissed me. Like he'd been fighting the urge for just as long as I had. And then he'd admitted it. I've wanted to kiss you for so long. My stomach twisted. I grabbed my pillow and covered my face. This was bad. Very, very bad. I sat up again and

Chapter 30 Mia “Hey, Carter. Was just leaving.” I said as casually as possible. Even the smile on my face was casual even though my heart was beating hard against my chest. “Already? I was really looking forward to getting to know you more.” He stepped forward. “We haven't even had time to talk.” “We did talk, Carter. You kissed me against my will.” “I kissed a girl I found attractive at a party. Didn't know that was a crime.” He was so close now that I could smell the alcohol on his breath. I scoffed. “Whatever, I have to go.” I said, checking my app for how far my Uber was. Carter grabbed my hand. “I think you should stay.” “No thanks.” I said and yanked my hands away, but he was stronger than I was. “What are you doing? Let me go.” Carter surprisingly let me go. He flashed a smile that barely reached his eyes and said. “I'll see you around.” Just then, my Uber arrived. I got in and let out a sigh of relief. For a moment there, I thought I had gotten myself into someth

Chapter 29 I got closer. “Look, I don't have any more to supply tonight. How about tomorrow night?” Xander said. Whatever he was talking about must have been serious because he was practically sweating. “Oh, come on, man. Don't do me like that.” He said. Then as if the other person on the other line hung up, he glared at his phone and angrily shoved it in his pocket before turning around. He almost jumped out of his skin when he saw me. “Rough night?” “Uh, yeah, but I'll be fine.” “Wanna tell me about it? I can help you know.* Xander smirked. “The only way I can be helped is with a blow job.” It took everything in me not to punch him. “I wonder what Carter would think about you harassing his guest.” His smirk quickly disappeared as if someone had doused him with water. Aha! I hadn't been seeing things; he and the rest of his teammates were definitely afraid of Carter. I just needed to figure out why. "I'm sorry. It was just a joke." “No worries. I have no reason to

Chapter 28 Scott It was getting harder to ignore what I was feeling for Mia. Even being close to her was dangerous. I took a drag of my cigarette, savoring the thick flavor of tobacco. My screen lit up just then. It was my father texting me to see if I was still coming for the party. I typed an answer that I was and shoved my phone in my pocket. The streets of Boston were busy. Cars everywhere, and more importantly, people. Fuck. I couldn't wait to go home and for things to go back to normal. I could forget about this fucking injury I had been trying to hide for the past month and maybe even take Mia's advice. Mia… When she'd touched my shoulder earlier, it had taken everything in me not to pull her close and kiss her. Why didn't I take the opportunity? She had looked willing? Or maybe I wanted her to look willing. No, I couldn't afford getting distracted now. My entire future, my pride was riding on getting drafted. Mia was a huge distraction. Sure, I enjoyed her com

Chapter 27 Mia As I stepped out of the hotel room, I couldn't help but feel wrong. When I called Scott back, I had planned to tell him I had been invited by Carter to a party, but for some reason I hadn't been able to get the words out. I stared at my reflection through the windscreen of a taxi parked in front of me. I had chosen a denim shirt with a cute backless top. I had on cute acrylic jewelry and glasses. My phone beeped, indicating my Uber was here. I looked to the left and found an oxblood Camry waiting for me. I moved fast, smiled at the driver who had on glasses, and got into the car. In less than five minutes, I was at the address Carter had given me. And the party had long since begun. I quickly texted Carter that I was here. He texted back in seconds. Carter: Come in, princess. I stared at the message in disgust. I hated being patronized. I made my way inside, and all eyes immediately turned towards me. I ignored them and made my way towards the bar, whe

Chapter 26 Mia “I'm having so much fun.” I said to Stacey as I got into the hotel room. Scott had texted me to leave, that he was going to go out with a couple of guys on the team, and that I shouldn't wait around for him. I knew he was upset, so I told him I'd be waiting for him at the hotel even though I was kind of irritated to be excluded from the plans of the team. “Of course you are. You're having plenty of sex with your superstar boyfriend while doing what you love.” I laughed. If only she knew how much sex I wasn't having. I wondered what she would think. When he didn't come back two hours later, I went downstairs to go have a late lunch, but not before texting Scott if he was alright and when he planned on coming back. I was starting to sound like an annoying girlfriend or a controlling boyfriend. I sat at the hotel restaurant, waiting for my order, when I noticed one of the hockey players from the Green Vipers walking towards me. He was the captain. I just didn't re
