Opening her eyes in the morning, Ghea felt her body aching. As she slightly shifted her legs, a stinging pain radiated from her core. She peeked under the blanket and found herself completely bare. Shocked, she immediately threw the blanket to the side. Her eyes widened even more when she saw dried bloodstains on the sheets, sending her into panic.
In her confusion, Ghea searched for her bag and grabbed her phone, only to find it dead. A wave of dizziness hit her as she quickly picked up her scattered clothes and put them on. She winced as she slipped into her underwear, almost breaking into tears. Fear crept up her spine at the thought of reporters swarming outside, hungry for a scandal about her.
Determined to leave the hotel room, Ghea hesitated upon seeing two key cards. One was lying on the table, while the other was still inserted into the slot for the room’s electricity. Feeling dizzy, she stumbled and hit the wall, holding her forehead as she tried to think.
"Was I really set up? Last night… did Noah and I really do it? Why can’t I remember his face?" Ghea trembled, then hurriedly left the room, hiding behind sunglasses and a mask.
Handing the two key cards to the receptionist, she didn’t even think to asking who had booked the room. The only thing on her mind now was meeting Jenny, her manager.
___
"Where did you sleep last night? Are you okay?" Jenny bombarded Ghea with questions the moment she stepped into her house.
"What do you mean?"
"Kris just called to ask if I could take you home. What happened, Ghe?"
Hearing Jenny mention Noah’s manager, Ghea felt an unsettling chill creep over her. She was in serious trouble.
"I-I-I slept at a hotel. Nothing happened," she stammered.
"Thank God. Kris said someone spiked your drinks with an aphrodisiac. He took Noah home, but he didn’t call me because he thought I already knew about it."
"What?"
"This is exactly why I forbid you from partying. Your star is shining so bright right now, Ghe. Two years of hard work will go to waste if you mess up even once."
Swallowing hard, Ghea nodded. In this city, Jenny wasn’t just her manager—she was like an older sister, even a parental figure to her.
"Jen, I want to rest today. Can you postpone my salon appointment?" Ghea asked.
"Are you feeling unwell? Did you drink too much again?" Jenny reached out to check Ghea’s forehead, but Ghea quickly brushed her hand away.
"Didn’t you nickname me the Drunken Warrior? A warrior isn’t that weak," she joked.
"Ugh… I only allowed you to go clubbing and party because you said you wanted to experience it at least once in your life. But look at you, now you’re addicted to it!"
Chuckling, Ghea left Jenny in the living room. Her manager was practically a part of the house at this point.
Turning on the shower, Ghea let the water cascade over her body. She hung her head, trying to recall what had happened the night before.
"A masculine scent… strong arms… Who was the man I slept with last night?" Closing her eyes, she told herself to bury the memory and pretend it never happened.
But suddenly, Ghea's eyes snapped open, and she covered her mouth in shock. "What if he recorded it and leaks the video?" She slid down against the shower wall, feeling utterly weak.
Meanwhile, Daniel was busy with his usual work, reviewing company documents, when his assistant and secretary, Jim, entered his office.
Jim bowed his head, already bracing himself for a scolding. The escort who was supposed to accompany his boss last night had failed to show up. Stuck in traffic, she had started sweating, and Daniel hated it when his bed partners weren’t fresh before their "warm-up" session.
"Jim, since when did you start rubbing elbows with celebrities?" Daniel smirked. "Impressive. I didn’t know you had access to someone that high-profile."
"Sir? What do you mean?" Jim asked, confused.
"You know… that singer and actress, Ghea. Turns out she was still a virgin. How much did you pay her for last night? I’m really curious."
"Ghea? But, sir… the woman who was supposed to meet you last night… sh-she never arrived."
"What?" Daniel put his pen down, his face darkening. "What do you mean?"
"She got stuck in traffic, and she said she started sweating. And, well… you have strict rules, sir. Any woman you sleep with has to provide health test results, take contraceptive pills, and, most importantly, not have body odor."
Daniel’s mind reeled. If Ghea wasn’t the escort he was expecting, then… did he just take advantage of an innocent woman? He had even been delighted, thinking he was the first to have her.
"Damn it! I’m a casanova, not a rapist," Daniel cursed internally.
Pinching Jenny’s arm was the very first thing Ghea did upon reuniting with her. She had finally returned home after spending about four days in Jogja. “Why didn't you tell me, hiding the fact that the one who got you pregnant was Daniel Tyaga!” “Because I didn't want anything to do with him,” Ghea replied, snatching her agenda planner straight out of Jenny’s hand. “You two forced my hand into this. It's like swallowing my own pride. I just sent shockwaves across the entire country by announcing my hiatus from the entertainment world, and now I have to crawl right back. As if everything I said a week ago was nothing but a cheap publicity stunt,” Ghea rattled on. Jenny pursed her lips inward. She knew her artist’s temperament inside out. Ghea despised being indecisive and detested people who couldn't stand by their word. Yet because Jenny had leaked her whereabouts to Daniel, she had no choice left—she had to go through with it and marry the hippo. “Relax! You don't need to
That morning, Pak Asman’s house was bustling with several relatives and neighbors who had come to witness Daniel and Ghea’s formal proposal. To keep the event private, Ghea requested that no active phones be used by her family to take photos. Ghea was genuinely taken aback to see Nova so overjoyed. The woman who had given birth to Daniel instantly shook her father’s hand firmly and wrapped him in a warm embrace. Ghea couldn't help but smile at her future mother-in-law’s enthusiastic demeanor. However, when her eyes met Richie—the man who had so gladly parted with his chocolate monster cake not long ago—Ghea couldn't help but knit her brows. He was entirely different from the Richie she had met that day. The Richie standing before her wore a flat, somber expression, completely devoid of the broad grin from their first encounter. Pushing the thought aside, everyone finally sat down and engaged in warm conversation. Fired up with excitement, Nova suggested that the wedding be hel
Ghea maintained a blank expression as photos of her alongside Daniel circulated once again. The only difference this time was that people were speculating even further that her departure from the entertainment industry was solely to marry him. As they drove back home, neither Daniel nor Ghea said much throughout the journey. Ghea even appeared entirely indifferent to the fact that Daniel’s family was coming to formally propose the very next day. Nor did she care to ask when they would actually hold the wedding. The first thing occupying Ghea’s mind was establishing an agreement—and this time, she had to be the one in control. "I want us to stay out of each other's personal lives after we're married," Ghea finally spoke up. "I want a legally binding document in black and white, along with witnesses. If necessary, let's hire a lawyer we can pay off to keep their mouth shut until our agreement comes to an end." Daniel nodded, cheering silently in his heart. As it turned out, this
"Daniel slept in your room last night, didn't he?" Pak Asman, already seated at the dining table, eyed his daughter suspiciously. Ghea simply nodded and sat down after setting a fresh cup of coffee before him. "He couldn't sleep because of your snoring, Yah. That's why he isn't awake yet." "Nduk, don't we need to prepare anything for tomorrow when Daniel's family comes over?" asked Pak Asman, who had zero experience hosting a formal proposal. "His mother is only coming to propose. You can just invite Bu Dhe and Bu Lek. I'll head into the city today to buy refreshments and souvenirs for them to take home." Pak Asman nodded in understanding, quickly finishing his breakfast before heading out to his batik workshop and showroom. Ghea was busy washing dishes when Daniel finally woke up, immediately asking where her father had gone. "He already left. Go have breakfast and take a shower. I want to take you to pick out some return gifts for your mother tomorrow," Ghea said, shaking th
Ghea, lying on the bed, could only stare at the ceiling without being able to close her eyes. Every now and then, she glanced to the right, wanting to check whether Daniel was already asleep down there. Earlier, the man had gone to sleep in Pak Asman's room. However, her father’s snoring stressed him out; Daniel whined, and for some reason, Ghea felt a little sorry for him. "I can’t sleep without air conditioning." "Good grief! Are you going to sleep in my room? Then where am I supposed to sleep? I don't want to sleep with my dad either!" "Fine, then the two of us will sleep together," Daniel said. "Hey..." Before Ghea could even recover from her shock at his words, Daniel had already walked into Pak Asman's room and reemerged carrying a floor mattress. Blinking rapidly, curiosity got the better of Ghea, and she shifted her body, turning slightly on her side to look at Daniel. The man seemed sound asleep, his eyes shut tight. Just as she was about to turn back, however,
Ghea wore a sour pout as she unlocked her car door rather sluggishly, while Daniel stood smiling, waving toward Pak Asman. “Aren't you coming home with us, Sir?”“Once we close up later, I can head home with the other workers.”Starting the engine, Ghea felt that her father had taken quite a liking to Daniel. Seeing her father’s beaming smile, the girl felt utterly bitter, knowing the cause of it was none other than the hippo.“How much does land go for around here?” Daniel rolled down the car window, taking in the scenery still dominated by lush trees and rice paddies. Her father’s batik workshop was located in a preserved tourism village, situated about four kilometers away from their house.“Why? Are you planning to build a business here? Don't bother! I don’t want outsiders coming in and turning this lovely village into an industrial park. I want my child to run through the rice fields and breathe clean air,” Ghea rambled as she steered the car down the quiet road.“You want your
