Audrey's POV

"When did you get here?" The words were barely audible.

"When you were crying." My heart ran cold at the thought that he had been here all this while. Watching.

And even now he still had that cold indifferent look on his face. There was only one reason,

"Michael... you knew" there was no doubt. Alana had been right, I was indeed foolish.

"Yes" his simple answer made a different feeling begin to build up in my heart. Something unrefined, violent. Hot. Pure. Anger.

"In fact this was all orchestrated by Michael." Alana supplied to which he just smirked.

"Why?" I croaked.

"Isn't it obvious? I was done playing. I needed a breakup" his calm tone made that heat surge forward like a cannon ball. Exploding in my body.

My heart was past the point of hurting at such words, "You could just have told me Damnit!"

"Audrey." His tone had an edge to it but I didn't give a fucking shit about that now. "Know your place, you should even be honored that I went out with you." He paused, letting his words sink in.

"How I plan to dump you is my business."

I couldn't control the heat that rushed up to my face, my insides burned as I watched their smug faces.

"Audrey, you shouldn't try to go beyond your reach. Someone like you is destined to be looked down on forever." Alana added before turning to leave.

"Remember this day." My eyes burned as I forced each word out.

"Because when you look back at it you'd regret every-fucking-thing you said" this time it wasn't hard to speak and I didn't fight the single drop rolling down my right cheek

"I will make sure of that"

"I'd look forward to that" Michael grinned wrapping his arm around her waist as they both left.

My chest felt tight as I watched their backs disappear. Gone was the heartbreak I felt, in its place hatred grew. Inch by inch.

Hurting me was one thing, tarnishing my image was another.

The humiliation I faced today, I will repay it. Even if it's the last thing I do.

I stared at the drip as I watched my mother's unmoving figure. All I could hear was the soft beep which indicated my mother was still alive. I had walked all the way from the Marcelo mansion to the hospital. It was closer than my rundown apartment. Tonight's events left me exhausted. And it was in moments like these where I realized I was truly alone.

A dark thought surfaced from nowhere, wouldn't it be better if I was in her position. Then I could ignore the world around me. The pain. The multiple part-times. Wouldn't it be better if I could just lie there —unfeeling.

I stared at the crushed phone in my hands. I wanted revenge but didn't know where to start. Beep! The machine's erratic signals made me frantic. "Is there anyone there?" I called as my fingers finally found the button for calling help.

The doctors were at her side in a heartbeat, pulling out several injections trying to stabilize her while I stood rooted in my position.

No, please. Please be alright.

The sound finally stopped, I rushed to her bedside, my palms held on to hers like my life depended on it. "What is going on?" I asked.

"Nothing major, the patient just went into a state of shock." I released a breath I didn't know I was holding. My grip loosened a bit.

"How is her general condition?" He shook his head slightly,

"Still the same. However we have a lot of new treatment plans coming up for comatose patients. I'm sure one will work for her. Don't give up."

I wouldn't. She was all I had left. Treatment plans meant more money, which also meant I might have to drop my course. Saving mom was my priority now. Placing a light kiss on mom's head I left the hospital.

It was almost morning, the cabs would be out by now. I itched to get back to the comfort of my home and sleep the day away. That was a better alternative to drowning in my worries. I entered my ride and in less than five minutes I was already dozing off.

A loud crash had me up in an instant as the car came to an abrupt stop. My head felt extremely light and... wet. Blood.

Through the windows I could see the headlights of a truck. "Uggh"

I reached for the driver, however my hands soaked into something warm and thick. Struggling to raise my eyes I saw that he had taken most of the hit. He was dead.

The lights blurred as I watched the headlights of the truck drifting farther away or was I the one drifting. At that moment I only had one thought. I want to live. Even if it was hard.

Even if... it was worse than dying.

  • A Baby For My Fiancés Enemy   Chapter Twenty-One

Alana’s POVI lay still on the armchair at the spa, my face covered in a facial mask, when my phone buzzed. I reached for my phone immediately and I saw Eleanor’s name. I quickly answered the call. His voice was sharp and filled with panic which made me sit upright.“We have to meet now,” she said.“Velvet Cellar. One hour,” I replied, waving away the aesthetician. I didn't care about the treatment anymore; if Eleanor was calling like this, the world was on fire.******************************An hour later, I stepped into the dim, private booth at the Velvet Cellar. Eleanor was already there, picking at her nails. Her face was a picture of disappointment.“She’s alive,” Eleanor said without saying hello. “After you called I went to the hospital to see things for myself, but she’s going to make it. She’ll be discharged in a few days.”I felt a wave of cold fury. “So we failed? All that risk for nothing?”“It's actually worse,” Eleanor whispered, leaning over the table. “Drecos is on

Drecos’s POVI strolled back towards Audrey’s room, my shoes tapping gently against the hospital floor. My thoughts were spiraling. I couldn't quite process the news, unable to understand the reason why anyone would want my Audrey dead. I was inches away from the door when I stopped on my track. I saw Eleanor through the small glass window. She was sitting by Audrey’s bed side. From the way she looked at Audrey, it didn't seem she was worried about her. She was looking intensely and that bothered me a little. Her eyes were scanning her from her head to her toes looking at her as if she was angry at her for something I couldn't quite wrap my head around.I was about to push the door open when a nurse approached with a clipboard. I quickly stepped in front of her, stopping her before she could enter.“Is she strong enough to go home now?” I asked my mind racing. I didn't want Audrey in this public space anymore. I wanted her in a place where I could control every person who had access

Audrey’s POVAs soon as the shadowy figure tried to inject me I struggled to remove my hand, my head swinging from left to right so he couldn't inject me, then I felt a firm heavy hand gripping my shoulders. My eyes snapped open. I was gasping for air, my chest thudding as I looked up. It was Drecos. He was leaning over me looking at me with concern.“Hey, hey… breathe, Audrey you’re okay look at me you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”I was freaking out and I couldn't stop shaking. I lifted my hands pointing at the direction where the shadow stood. I tried to call out Drecos' name but my throat was tight. I opened my eyes but no sound came out.Drecos didn't let go. He grabbed my hands, holding them tightly in his own to stop them from shaking. He forced me to look into his eyes, making me calm.“He was just standing over there, Drecos,” I whispered, pointing in the same direction again. “He wanted to inject me.”“There is no one here, Audrey,” he said, in a calm and soothing voice. “

Micheal’s POV“Michael, I’m serious. I’m not even suggesting.” Alana gave a sharp, cutting reply as she banged the brochure onto my desk. “You have to be available for the cake tasting today and also we have to check out the last three venues. We need to make a decision fast. I won't have the Marcelo wedding looking like a last-minute gala.”I leaned back on my chair sipping vodka. “I’ll be there, Alana, relax.”Alana was about to say something else before her phone buzzed abruptly on the desk. She peeked at the screen. “It's Eleanor.”“Put it on speaker,” I commanded.“Alana… It’s done, Audrey is gone. The doctors just confirmed it… the poison hit her system too hard. She didn't stand a chance at all.”The silence in the room was heavy but peaceful. The silence that followed was heavy, but it wasn't mournful. A slow, mischievous grin spread across my face. I looked at Alana, and she had the look of triumph plastered on her that she forgot about wedding planning. “Finally,” I breathe

Drecos POVMy phone rang just as I was finishing a call with one of my managers.I almost put my phone away but then I saw the name. It was the secret guard I assigned to watch Audrey.I quickly picked the call.“Boss, something is wrong with ma’m Audrey she just… she just collapsed.”Time stopped, for how long, I couldn't tell. A cold suffocating panic took over me. The only thing I could think of was Audrey. I hope she’s okay or at least going to be fine. I just simply dropped my phone I m my pocket and ran. If she died because I let her out of my sight, there would be no ground deep enough to bury my guilt.By the time my car came to a halt at the venue, I tore through the crowd and then I saw her. A pale figure on the marble. Eleanor was kneeling beside her.“Drecos! Thank God you're here, I don't know what happened, I was only in the restroom for…”I didn't even look at her. I shoved her aside, my movements were fast and I scooped Audrey’s limp body into my arms. She was terrifyi

  • A Baby For My Fiancés Enemy   Chapter Sixteen

Alana’s POVThe boutique was quiet, only the sound of wine glasses and the sound of hangers moving along clothing racks. I looked at my reflection on the three-way mirror admiring my emerald green backless gown that draped my gold stilettos. It was a dress made only for queens. I smiled at myself in satisfaction. My phone buzzed on the velvet foot rest. I glanced at the screen Eleanor. I grabbed it while sitting on the sofa and a mischievous grin tugged at my lips. “Eleanor darling. Don’t tell me you’ve finally grown bored of playing house with that little pet of yours?”“We need to meet,” Eleanor said with a cold voice. “I have a plan.”I straightened my back a little. “Alright. The Velvet Cellar. Thirty minutes.”*****************************The velvet Cellar was an underground pub tucked beneath an old library. A place meant for secrets.I entered the hideout in a cream-tailored blazer with a V-neck line slightly highlighting the rose tattoo near my collarbone. My hair was snatch
