LOGINAudrey’s POV
I couldn’t dare refuse this offer. My insides burned from rage, and deep down I knew I couldn’t bring down Michael and Alana on my own. I needed help, and here it was, on a silver platter at that. A smile curved on his lips, one that couldn’t be labeled as one; his lips simply pulled up before returning back to their usual state. He gripped my hand a bit tighter, his larger hand covering mine completely. “Will you marry me, Audrey?” His words were smooth, gently reminding me that I hadn’t yet replied to his question. “Y—yes.” His thumb gently brushed the back of my hand. I felt a sudden jolt immediately that had me pulling away. His lips pulled up into a smirk, one that made a cold brush against my spine. Why did it feel like my fate had been sealed without the need of a contract? Was it normal trusting this man whom I didn’t know, had never seen before, and was now marrying??? My lips parted to say something to oppose the marriage plans—maybe they could make another deal—however, my words died in my throat at his very next words. “Of course, you’ll be heavily compensated. Twenty million dollars per week.” I paused, my brain processing his words. Twenty million a week!!?? That would clear my mother’s bill in an instant, buy a house—we would live like royalty. Twenty million dollars and my best shot at crushing Michael and Alana? I’m in!! He cleared my hospital bills, and after the doctor said I was okay, I was discharged from the hospital. My eyes stretched at the expensive sleek black car which belonged to him, but then what was there to be surprised about? He was a wealthy man. And a mafia! The lingering thought tugged at the back of my head, but for the umpteenth time, I pushed it aside. He pulled the door open for me, and then I got in. He shut the door and then got into the driver’s seat. The car produced a soft hum once he ignited it. “Wait, where are we going now?” I turned to ask him. I clutched the sides of my gown, suddenly feeling a bit nervous. This man was incredibly handsome, too handsome that I wondered if he had been sculpted by all the gods of beauty. His gray eyes, his sharp jawline, and then that masculine build—not to mention he was also twice my height and size. His midnight black hair glistened, and then he suddenly turned to stare at me. My heart caught in my throat. “I’m dropping you home,” came his curt response, and then his eyes were fixed back on the road ahead. My brows furrowed. “You don’t… even know my house.” He chuckled, taking me off guard. It sounded so deep, alluring… Snap out of it, I cautioned myself. I just got my heart smashed to bits by the man I considered to be the love of my life. I can’t afford lowering my guard again. However, he didn’t reply to my question, and my face became marred with shock when he drove us to my house minutes later. He… he had done his research on me, and so fast too. How was that possible? “I’ll call you,” were his last words before driving off. I hadn’t given him my number, but somehow he had gotten it, like he had known I would have no choice but to take his offer. I gripped the hand of my purse tighter and then got into my apartment. Days passed, and I never heard anything from him. I was starting to believe I had only been imagining things; perhaps it was due to the high dosage of treatment I had received in the hospital. Twenty million a week— I wish, I scoffed. I finished up with my late-night shift and prepared to board the last cab home. However, the familiar sleek black car suddenly pulled up in front of me. I stepped back cautiously. It couldn’t be him. The last thing I wanted was falling prey to another mafia whom Michael might’ve hired to get rid of me, and just as I was about to make a run for it, the tinted glass slowly wound down. I halted instantly. It was him. I could never forget that perfectly sculpted face in a hurry. “Get in,” his tone was cold. I hesitated for a moment, but then remembered the humiliation Michael had put me through, his betrayal, and his ploy to have me killed. I got in instantly. The ride was a quiet one, and as if it was a normal routine, he drove me to my house. At this point, I didn’t know what to say. I fiddled with the ends of my shirt. He had probably changed his mind; that offer was too good to be true anyway. “Audrey,” he suddenly called, pulling me out of my thoughts. My stomach churned, like a thousand butterflies had exploded in it. Had my name always sounded this good? He pulled out some documents and handed them to me. My eyes instantly skimmed through the headline—it was a marriage contract. My hand trembled, nearly dropping the files. This was happening too fast. I didn’t even know his name yet. “This is your last chance to back out. If you’ve changed your mind, you can get down now, and I’ll never reach out to you again.” My heart pounded in my ribcage. He sounded ever so relaxed, like my involvement in this meant nothing—or perhaps he was sure as hell my mind was unchanged. I stared at the document once more, averting his gaze. This kind of opportunity might—would—never come again. There was no use contemplating. “Let me save us both time. Three major things…” My heart caught in my throat once his fingers flew to my chin, making sure he held direct eye contact with me. “Rule One, my personal life is none of your business,” his words flew like waves. “Two, You are not to fall in love with me.” He paused, gauging every flicker of emotion crossing my face. That wasn’t a problem. I had no plans of falling in love with him anyway. “Three…” he drawled, reminding me he had one last rule left. “You are to conceive my child five months from now, a divorce will be issued immediately after birthing my child.” I froze instantly.Drecos’s POVOur heads were so close that the rest of the world faded away leaving just her in my universe. Every instinct I possessed, the cold, calculating part of me that had kept me alive for all these years was screaming at me to withdraw. Don't do this. Don't let her in. But I couldn't move back. There was a magnetic pull, a raw, invisible force, pulling me towards Audrey. My gaze dropped to her lips, and for the first time in my life, I was not in control.Just as our lips were about to lock, a sharp rhythmic knock shattered the silence. The spell broke. We froze, then jumped apart with lightning speed, the electric heat between us vanishing in an instant. I felt a surge of pure unmistakable fury come over me.“Dammit”, I muttered under my breath, my heart still hammering against my ribs. I turned toward the door. “Hold on,” I barked.I stepped out to meet my head of security, holding my phone. He looked hesitant, but he stood his ground. “Boss, your phone. It has been ring
Audrey’s POVI didn't think I just acted. I quickly sprang up and moved my body off the bed.“Audrey? What are you?…”I let out a sharp, choked gasp as I let my legs give way. I collapsed forward, my hands hitting the floor with a loud thud. “Oh! My head…”“Oh my God, Audrey!” Eleanor let out, dropping the bag instantly to rush to my side. She grabbed my shoulders, her face full of panic and concern. “Your body is not ready to be up! You’re still so weak!”As she stood over me, helping me back toward the bed, I used the chaos. My foot hooked around the strap of the bag on the floor. With one swift, silent kick, I sent it sliding deep under the shadows of the bed frame.“I'm sorry,” I whispered, leaning into her as she sat me back down. I looked up at her with watery, grateful eyes. “I just... I wanted to tell you how sweet you've been to me. Especially at the party. The way you defended me against Alana... I don’t know what I would have done without you.”Eleanor’s expression softened
Drecos’s POVThe air in the hospital corridor was thick, but it was nothing compared to the tension inside the room. The moment I heard the words come out of Audrey’s mouth the words hit me like a physical blow.I took a step closer to Audrey’s bed as I stood in between the doctor and Audrey. My blood runs cold. Secrets are dangerous in my world; they are shadows where the enemies hide. I watched as the doctor excused himself, his eyes fixed on mine as he quickly looked away seconds before he hurried out. I didn't like the way he avoided my gaze.I walked towards Audrey’s bed. “What secret Audrey?” I asked with a low voice demanding the truth. “What were you two discussing that I’m not allowed to know?”She looked at me, and for a moment the world seemed to stop. Her eyes held pain and unshed tears. She looked so fragile, her face was pale except for the faint flush on her cheeks. There wasn't any hint of deception in her expression, only a haunting vulnerability that made my chest ac
Drecos’s POV My gun stayed pointed at her forehead as she kept blabbering. I wanted to see the light leave her eyes. I wanted to hear her beg for her life. But as she made to speak again the room exploded. Bang. The girls head snapped back, then she slumped to the ground. I turned around, my gun still in the air, my heart was pounding with hot pure rage. Eleanor stood there, her face looking pale her pistol still smoking. “What the hell did you just do?” I shouted. My mind was going crazy. Even if I wanted her dead I also wanted to hear what she had to say, I wanted to be the one to pull the trigger. “Why did you shoot her? I wanted her to die by my hands.” Eleanor looked at the body, then at me, her eyes teary up. “I’m sorry, Drecos. I just… I didn't know what came over me I had to do it I hand a feeling she was going to lie to you, and it made me so angry. Seeing her sit there after what she did to Audrey... I just couldn't take it. I got carried away with rage. I know you w
Alana’s POVI lay still on the armchair at the spa, my face covered in a facial mask, when my phone buzzed. I reached for my phone immediately and I saw Eleanor’s name. I quickly answered the call. His voice was sharp and filled with panic which made me sit upright.“We have to meet now,” she said.“Velvet Cellar. One hour,” I replied, waving away the aesthetician. I didn't care about the treatment anymore; if Eleanor was calling like this, the world was on fire.******************************An hour later, I stepped into the dim, private booth at the Velvet Cellar. Eleanor was already there, picking at her nails. Her face was a picture of disappointment.“She’s alive,” Eleanor said without saying hello. “After you called I went to the hospital to see things for myself, but she’s going to make it. She’ll be discharged in a few days.”I felt a wave of cold fury. “So we failed? All that risk for nothing?”“It's actually worse,” Eleanor whispered, leaning over the table. “Drecos is on
Drecos’s POVI strolled back towards Audrey’s room, my shoes tapping gently against the hospital floor. My thoughts were spiraling. I couldn't quite process the news, unable to understand the reason why anyone would want my Audrey dead. I was inches away from the door when I stopped on my track. I saw Eleanor through the small glass window. She was sitting by Audrey’s bed side. From the way she looked at Audrey, it didn't seem she was worried about her. She was looking intensely and that bothered me a little. Her eyes were scanning her from her head to her toes looking at her as if she was angry at her for something I couldn't quite wrap my head around.I was about to push the door open when a nurse approached with a clipboard. I quickly stepped in front of her, stopping her before she could enter.“Is she strong enough to go home now?” I asked my mind racing. I didn't want Audrey in this public space anymore. I wanted her in a place where I could control every person who had access
Audrey’s POVI stared in disbelief at the test result in my hands trying to force a rewrite with my eyes. I stared at the bold black ink POSITIVE until my vision clouded over. I was six weeks gone.I moved silently through the hallway, my legs finally finding their way to my mother's room. I stood
Drecos POVI watched in shock as Eleanor wrapped her hand around Audrey, for a second I thought the Italian sun had melted her brain. Eleanor didn't do affection and she most certainly didn't do besties. My gaze remained cold, I remained still as I didn't buy this whole rebranded Eleanor one bit. I
Alana’s POVI kept quiet for a moment, giving her time actually to think about it before I continued. “We have a common enemy, I think we should team up and eliminate our common threat by all means necessary.”“You’re joking right? What makes you think I would betray the Vacinelo name for a mercelo
Audrey’s POVI quickly ran out of the room and ran towards the nurses’ station. The smell of the hospital no longer had the smell of drugs or antiseptic; it felt like I was walking in the graveyard.I hadn’t ran for long but it felt like I was running through quicksand as I ran to the nurses statio
