CLARISSA

The hum of the car was the only sound between us. Jaxon's hand gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles pale. But his gaze kept flicking toward me.

"You've barely said a word since we left the meeting," he said.

I stared out the window, gazing at the orange sky. "I didn't want to say anything until I was sure I wasn't hallucinating."

"Clarissa." His voice turned firm. "Talk to me."

So I did.

I told him about the voice in my head. The way it called me Evie and the way it had begged for help.

Jaxon didn't interrupt. Not once.

When I finished, I let the silence fall between us again.

Then he reached over and rested his hand on my knee.

"You won't do this alone," he said, his gaze fixed on the road. "Not now. Not ever. We fight this together."

Emotions clogged my throat.

I reached over and gave his thigh a gentle squeeze. "You're too good for me."

"No," he said without missing a beat, flashing me a small, sideways grin. "I'm exactly what you deserve."

Gods, I loved him.

JAXON The eclipse wolf was getting louder. I clenched my jaw and stared at the wall, willing my pulse to steady even as my vision swam. My fingers dug into the edge of the kitchen counter. The ceramic mug I'd been holding slipped and shattered against the floor.Great. That was the third thing I'd broken today.'Weak. You're letting them see it.'I squeezed my eyes shut, ignoring the thick voice twisting through my skull. It sounded like me, but it was wrong, distorted and crueler."Not now," I muttered under my breath, wiping the blood from my nose with the back of my hand before anyone saw.But Clarissa was already turning towards me from where she stood near the stairs. Her eyes flicked to the crimson smear and narrowed."Jax—""I'm fine," I cut in, quickly. "Just a headache."She didn't believe me. I saw it in the way her lips parted slightly like she wanted to call me out on it but didn't know how hard to push. Instead, she let it go. For now.Zion was upstairs, resting a

CLARISSA Lilith screamed. Her blood painted the stone walls of the basement in thick crimson splashes, the sound of her agony echoing off the iron pipes. I didn't flinch. I wanted her to scream. I’d chopped off her hands for daring to touch my baby, and now I would bleed her dry. She deserved it.General Vale lay twisted in a pool of his own gore, his chest carved open like the monster he was. He died too quickly. He should've suffered. But I made sure Lilith felt every second of what she’d stolen from me and my family.Power pulsed at my fingertips, white-hot and blinding, webbing across the floor. Lilith's limbs jerked, and she screamed as my magic scorched her nerves from the inside out."You don't get to die easily," I growled. "You don't get mercy.”Her blood-coated lips moved, mumbling something. A plea? A curse? It didn't matter. I wasn't listening. It was at this point that I felt the warmth that accompanied my mate’s presence.Jaxon. He was here. His hand slid around my

ZION The moment I saw Lilith holding the child version of myself, the dreadful memories from my timeline filled my head. She had no right. No right to be near him. No right to breathe the same air as him. Not after what she did in my timeline. Not after she butchered children with a smile or when she and her brother dragged my mother's corpse to the Hollow King and made her a bargaining chip. Not after they turned my world into a graveyard. My grip tightened on the doorframe. They should be thankful I wasn't in top condition. But that didn't mean that I would let them have their way. So I moved, faster than they could've predicted. And then I was in front of her. Lilith. My claws sliced through the delicate column of her throat like it was paper. Her eyes widened, and blood spurted across my arm. She tried to scream, but all that came out was a wet, gurgling rasp.I caught the infant—my younger self—before he hit the floor. He blinked up at me with innocence and trust, oblivious

CLARISSA Morning came like a thief after a sleepless night. I hadn't really slept, not with Callum's voice still echoing in my head. I had just breastfed my baby, and he was now sleeping in his grandma’s arms. So I headed out of the room in search of Jaxon."I'm trapped in here, Evie. Please save me."Even now, the words made my skin prickle.Evie.No one had called me that in years. Not since I was a girl with scraped knees and a wild laugh. I shook the thought away and walked down the hallway. Zion's room was just up ahead. The sound hit me first...the sound of his ragged breathing. My pulse spiked.I turned, my heart leaping into my throat, and found him doubled over by the wall, one hand gripping the edge of a dresser for balance. His chest rose and fell heavily like he was trying to ride out his pain. Only one sleeve of his shirt was on, the other was hanging off his sculpted frame. His muscles were straining, sweat sliding down his temple.Jaxon's shirt.I recognized the fabr

CLARISSA I jolted awake in bed with a start. I was so certain I’d just heard a deafening crash but the house was too quiet.I sat up, my heart pounding so loud it drowned out everything else. For a second, I couldn't breathe. The room was dark, washed in silver moonlight, but it was empty.Jaxon wasn't beside me.Panic gripped me.I reached out, my hand brushing the cold sheets where his warmth should've been. My stomach twisted. Something felt... off.I hurried across the room in quick strides. Zion was still in his cot, sleeping peacefully, his tiny fists curled under his chin. But the instinct in me that had surged to life the first time I’d heard his cry roared louder now.I slipped on my robe, lifting Zion gently into my arms. He stirred, letting out a soft sound. Then he settled on my chest.I pressed a kiss to his head and moved towards the door, my heartbeat echoing in my ears.As I stepped into the hallway, I heard Jaxon’s voice. He sounded concerned.I moved faster, h
