“All my life, I have never being touched by a man. I’ve remained clean and chaste.” – Ava Goodchild
…
“Ava! Wake up!”
Some voice jeered me out of my sleep. I widened my eyes immediately, wondering if I was in trouble.
“W-What?”
To some extent, I expected to see Emily or anyone of my roommates. But when I saw who it was, I was shocked.
Really.
“Morning Cassandra, what are you doing here?”
“Morning…” she whispered, pulling me up out of the bed.
“I apologize for my impolite behavior, My Lady but His Royal Highness, summons you.”
She said, whispering the last part in my ear.
“W-What?”
I mean, after the stunt I pulled yesterday I didn’t expect it to be so soon.
“Yes, milady.”
“He sent his trusted servant, Jaskier who delivered it to me discreetly.”
She whispered again, in a low tone in my ear.
“Okay, let me get dressed.”
I said, with a smile.
Quickly, I went to the bathroom to wash my entire body including my teeth. I dried myself with a towel before applying a lotion, and wearing my clothes.
It was the remaining from the competition we did earlier.
“I’m all ready!”
I exclaimed.
“Shush. You don’t want the other girls to wake up.”
Cassandra said, as she took a hold of my hands. We stepped out and she directed me to where Jaskier was positioned.
Once we got there, I hugged her in appreciation.
“Morning, milady.”
Jaskier said, with a bright smile written on his features. “Oh yes, Jaskier.”
I replied confidently.
“Guess last night was quite a dramatic one.”
I added, as we walked.
He was one of those few people around here I could trust.
Not that he didn’t want his benefit. But at least, he came clean and direct with me.
“Yes, milady.”
“However, we could move on from that, with this good news.”
Good? There was nothing good about it ..
“The beast requests your presence, even without me trying.” he stated with a grin.
“You must be turning to his favorite.”
I smiled at his statement. But when I realized what he meant, I put up a frown on my face.
“What do you mean?” I snarled.
“I’m sorry, I meant… he must have a certain liking for you.”
“So sorry if that sounded offensive.”
He apologized. I was no harlot. In fact, I hadn’t been touched by him yet. And even if I had been touched, it was none of his business.
“It’s fine. I mean, as long as it doesn’t happen again.”
He smirked before knocking at the King’s Royal Chambers and announcing my presence.
The minute I got in, a low growl rippled the room. Though an enticing scent, I couldn’t help but try to control my breathing.
Once again, I couldn’t believe this was happening.
After what he did last night?
“Mate.”
His voice was a throaty one, gruffly and rough. Though, solemn and soothing.
“I do not belong here, your Highness. Why did you summon me?”
I held the hems of my gown asking.
“Cause I wanted to see you.”
King Caspian replied dangerously.
A glance at his silver grey eyes, made me want to get lost in it. But it seemed I was being used.
Was I even really his mate?
“I missed you, Ava.”
“Really? Me? And not Lady Francesca?”
I swallowed, saying with my chin up high.
I mean…why would he even miss me? I was a nobody.
A pawn around here.
“I sent her away.”
He stated.
“But that’s after you had your way with her. In spite of me being your supposed mate.”
“My beast curses me for not marking you as mine, Ava.”
“That is not the answer to my statement, My King.”
I seethed.
“Look, there’s a reason for the way things are done here.”
“My fa—”
“Forget.It.”
I said, out of anger and jealousy.
“What is you want, Ava?”
“What can I give you? I want to make you happy.”
Freedom. My freedom.
But those words were all in my mind. Instead, outside I wore a smile looking up into his silver grey eyes.
There was a way his long dark hair swept sexily around his face.
“Redemption.”
I stated, baring out my neck to him.
To he strong here, I needed to not be human.
I needed to be whatever it was he was. Perhaps a beast, Lycan or wolf. I needed power.
“Do not test me, little one.”
“Once I start, I won’t be able to stop.”
He stated, drawing me closer. King Caspian’s eyes shown a velvet tone, with strikes of black in it.
Should I be scared?
Should I…
“Make me like you, just like you did to Lady Francesca and Cicilia.”
His shoulders bulged and he froze on his spot. Eyes widened, even more.
“Who told you this?!”
King Caspian thundered powerfully, holding the sides of my arm.
“Y-You’re hurting me, what are you doing—”
“Answer me now!!”
I whimpered on my spot at how he had suddenly switched. I could see the furs spring from his hack. And I did want to cry…
I mean I wasn’t used to this.
Being held by a man, who wasn’t even human.
“F-Francesca.”
I stammered, in a scare.
“That harlot told you all of this?” he questioned.
Harlot?
My eyes widened.
Was all of this a game or Francesca had been lying.
“Yes, milord…”
“Stay here.”
He ordered, directing me to his bed. My butts hit the bed, which was soft and fluffy.
Caspian’s thudded his boots, and walked in a way that his dark garment flew at his back.
With each movement.
My heart thudded rapidly as he went out the door, slamming it in anger.
I wondered what I did or said wrong…
…
King Caspian came into the room a few hours later. Though, I had unintentionally fallen asleep on his bed.
Not really deep though. Half awake and asleep, sort of.
He sat down beside me, with a bottle of alcohol in his hands. Drinking some, he took my hands in his surprisingly, lifting it to his mouth and kissing it.
“You have to go back.”
He echoed.
I flinched in hurt, thinking he would want me to indulge in a game of life and death…when I was his mate.
“I might die.”
I told him. “Besides, what did you go to do?”
I also asked.
I narrowed my eyes at him, when he took another gulp of the alcohol.
Again. And again.
“She drugged me.”
He spat out.
What was he talking about? Was he drunk?
“Who, milord?”
“My mother.”
He stated. He seemed dejected and bitter.
My eyes widened when I saw some tears at the verge of his eyes.
“She knew I was a monster; a beast, yet she did…”
He took another sip, before continuing.
“Wanted me to mark, turn and mate those girls but I was adamant. I wanted only my mate.”
“But she said you were never going to come. This was why my father created this event. For strong girls, to compete to be the Queen.”
“I-I’m so sorry…”
I really was. I thought he was part of this. I thought he was a monster, with no feelings.
Why did he hide this from everyone anyway?
This meant this was how Francesca and Cicilia were turned.
“You don’t have to be. It’s not your fault this happened.”
“I should have controlled myself from turning them. Now look at the damage I caused.”
He stated.
“They shouldn’t be in that rank. But I made them powerful unknowingly hence they wipe the rest”
S-so this was it?
That was what really happened…
“How about—”
“You’re in history, you know.”
Caspian suddenly breathed out. He seemed like he was dozing off, in my bosoms. But he couldn’t sleep?
I jeered him immediately. He had to tell me everything. Perhaps him being drunk was my advantage…
“M-me?”
I stated, confusingly.
“Yeah, we are in history.”
“Long ago, some Seer foresaw a war between districts and our Kingdom.”
“They said you’d bring the balance but don’t know how true that is…”
He slurred out, devilishly baring his fangs and coming closer to me.
“Ava…”
He purred, with his eyes dilating into a pool of dark ocean.
“Caspian!”
I yelled out, of panic.
“Dammit, your scent makes me want to mark you…mate.”
“What? Isn’t this what you wanted earlier? To become powerful.”
He said, reaching out for me, once again.
“Yes…but not this way. You’re not in your right senses.”
I stated, pressing my lips firmly.
“Okay fine but at least, let me make love to you.”
He stated. I took the bottle of alcohol from his hands, dropping it on the floor.
With a reluctant pout, Caspian drifted closer to me. He kicked off his boots with a desirous look on his face.
Full of emotion.
A wanting glare.
“Fine. Have the bottle.”
“But I need something to claim you as mine, Ava..”
My heart thudded rapidly instantly.
“W-why?”
“To send all other men away. Because I’m entirely yours.”

I was thankful when the beast fell into my hands, sleeping. His hair, dangerously covering a part of his forehead. Chiseled jaw and a smooth face, which had some beard around his chin. He reminded me of the way an Adonis was described, in one of the books I read back at home.Home.I missed home.I found myself drifting back to reality, and giggling a bit at the way he snored while he slept. For someone as powerful and good looking, he was a disaster in bed. What are you doing, Ava?You should be making your way out instead of admiring him…“I need to go,”I whispered, pushing him off my body with all my strength and rolling him over. The girls would soon wake up, and I wouldn’t want any mixed feelings about this.“Stay.”His hands suddenly tightened around my hands saying.“W-what, I have to—”
*Days later*I wouldn’t say I became better, at heart after Emily’s words. There was an improve, yes.But I didn’t become better in my sword man ship, skills. No matter how I tried, I just couldn’t get it right. While Elder Zu taught us the techniques everyday and made us practice, I came back to the battle ground each time.Trying to learn, but nothing came out of it.“The challenge would be in a fortnight to now, ladies.”Knight Lydia announced one day, after gathering the 25 of us together.“Only after that, would the winner face me.”She was about walking away, when she suddenly stopped in her tracks, taking a view at us training.“With what I’m seeing, I’m sure none of you would be able to combat with me, one on one.”She snickered, before walking away. The morning bell for breakfast rang instantly. I shook the snow off my b
The beast held me as I leaned on him, crying intensely.Remembering Jasmine, did make me want to run into a box, and hide myself from it all.“She was my sister.”In a husky and hushed tone, I said.“And you lost her, didn’t you?” he asked.“She was just 9…”I brokenly let out, shivering. My body pondered as I said those words, with so much hurt withheld in my chest.“I lost someone too.”He suddenly let out.“I might not know what it’s like but I remember having an empty feeling.” he added, gently.“She was my mum.”“And her death was unforeseen. She died in the hands of the enemies.” he added.“And when she did, my dad became a gruesome, ruthless beast. I became worst.”“First you feel immense guilt, next…rage and anger. You then begin to blame y
The snow fell slowly, pouring on my head while the rain drizzled too. I suspected it was due to my transformation, that I couldn’t feel much of the weather. My skin felt a million thicker and impenetrable.I in fact, felt so much stronger, as I approached Master Zu. My face wrote of a determined look.My sword dragged on the floor, making linings on the snow that fell. And breeze blew off my already short hair, which I had earlier cut.I must win.I had to win.If I wanted to defeat Knight Lydia, I had to pass the hurdle.By defeating Elder Zu himself.“Come on!”Master Zu exclaimed, stretching his hands forward.I suddenly began running towards him, swaying my sword as I ran in the air. Instead of a sword, Master Zu took out a wooden stick. What was he doing?I stopped on my spot immediately.“You’re using that?”
Her crimson hair swarm widely, as she flipped some pages of her book. I inhaled nervously. What was she doing telling me to be free?I pressed my lips firmly, deciding to do as she said. Maybe she’ll tell me what I needed to know.“S-sure,”I muttered, reaching for the books in the shelf. My hands scanned through before taking one of them in my hands. I carefully observed it, as I did.Maybe it was a hint? Or was it?The book I took had an old brownish cover. It seemed dusty and ancient. But surprisingly, it was locked. With a padlock and it seemed like it needed a key.“It’s locked, Lady Archer.”“Yes dear, it is.”“For now, though. It’s left to you to open it; I’ve played my part.”“But I don’t have the key. How do I unlock it?” I asked frightfully. What if the answer to everything
Warning! Some parts of this chapter trigger self-harm and suicide.Dear readers, suicide is never an option. Whatever you’re passing through or facing will soon be over. Hang on in there, please...After that encounter with Rook Francesca, I headed to Knight Lydia’s quarters. My intentions were simple— I wanted Piper in my room. Then I would practice more and find the key after.Luckily, she agreed. Although with the condition that Piper shared a bed with me, since it wasn’t in her power to move anything in the castle. She had suggested me talking to Bishop Cicilia about it, but I waved it off agreeing. What was worse than going to one’s enemies for help?Cicilia would pay for her deeds, with Lady Francesca. But that was until I found the truth.Because something didn’t quite add up. I sensed a hidden enemy; pulling the strings.Who wa
King Caspian’s Pov“Milord, I sent the message. Lady Ava would be here in a few minutes.”Jaskier, my personal guard said with a bow.“Okay thanks.”I said, sitting down in deep thoughts as he left through the door, closing it behind him.Why won’t she accept to be my concubine? Why doesn’t she want me to protect her anymore? Why is she so stubborn? With these thoughts, I stood up pacing back and forth in my chambers.“I want mate.”“I miss her sweet scent and want to hold her in my hands.”My beast grumbled, threatening to take over.“Quiet, would you? Can’t you see I summoned her already?”He won’t rest until our mate was safe with us. Until she was protected from the games. Not that I couldn’t forcefully take her. But doing that, w
Ava’s Pov It was almost like I could hear imaginary bells. Completely zoning out the moment Tabitha jumped. Holding my gown, with my both hands shaking. Through the linings which supported the balcony, I peeked and saw Tabitha’s disfigured body. “Oh no…” She was already dead. It was an eye sore. Right beside her down, were Francesca and Cicilia. Seems like they intended to stop her from jumping so they won’t be exposed. I knew Tabitha was right, that instant. Clearly, they were both responsible. In fact, they have been feeding on her. “Lady Ava…” I wondered who was calling me. “Lady Ava!!” Someone jeered me out of my thoughts, shaking my arms steadily. I looked only to see Cassandra. “You need to get a hold of yourself,” She said. Thankfully, she had followed me unknowingly. Sh
