Aurora.

Someone was calling my name. It was faint, like a breeze rustling through leaves, barely distinguishable from the silence. It pulled at me, fragile and distant, like the fading echo of a dream. I didn’t want to respond. I just wanted to stay in the void, where everything was quiet. But the voice came again, clearer this time, more urgent.

With great effort, my eyelids fluttered open. They felt impossibly heavy. Pain surged through my chest as my memories came roaring back, jumbled and chaotic.

Kaidan. The basement.

Everything came crashing down at once, suffocating me with its intensity. My body trembled under the weight of the past few hours. I hadn’t meant to collapse, I just couldn’t bear anymore. The terror, the panic, the sheer emotional exhaustion had pushed me past my limit.

I blinked against the brightness as I opened my eyes fully, the ceiling light glaring down at me. Every muscle ached, and it felt like I’d been hit by something massive. My pulse thundered in my ear

Lucy. The sharp crack of cane against flesh echoed through the stone hallway like a gunshot. I froze mid-step.“No, please stop!” A hoarse, desperate voice begged, barely distinguishable over the sound of blows landing with sickening force.I rushed around the corner and there she was. A young girl, no older than sixteen, curled up on the ground, shielding her head with shaking arms. Blood trickled from a gash on her brow, her clothing torn and filthy. Towering over her was one of our guards, his face twisted in rage, hand raised again.“STOP!” I bellowed. He didn’t even flinch. Maybe he didn’t hear me. Or maybe he didn’t care. With a guttural growl, he brought his hand down again. That was the final straw.Heat surged through me like a storm unleashed. Power rose, roaring in my veins. My vision shimmered, my skin blazing as if fire danced beneath the surface. I thrust my hand forward, fingers taut with fury and, with a flick, hurled the guard off his feet. He screamed midair before s

Ivy.I slammed the door so hard it echoed off the marble like a gunshot, the vibrations rattling through my bones. My boots clacked furiously against the pristine floors as I strode into the room, rage simmering just beneath my skin. Each inhale scorched my throat, and the image of Ellison’s smug expression lingered behind my eyes, those cold, condescending eyes, his voice soaked in that entitled, regal smugness that made me want to shatter every vase in the room.Who did he think he was, barking commands at me like I was one of his damn servants?I paced the room in furious strides, fists curled tight, knuckles white. Anyone standing outside the door could probably hear me seething, and honestly? I didn’t give a damn. Let them listen. Let the whole damn palace hear that Ivy wasn’t someone to be ordered around, not by Ellison, not by any man.Minutes ticked by. My breathing began to slow, just barely, when the door creaked open behind me. I didn’t need to turn to know who it was. The

Aurora.I couldn’t say exactly when sleep claimed me. The palace had fallen into an eerie stillness, quieter than usual. Perhaps that calmness was what allowed my body to finally give in.Then—voices.Faint at first, sharp and distant like the crack of glass underfoot. They pierced through the haze clouding my mind. I blinked awake, heart already racing. I wasn’t imagining it. The voices were real—raised, urgent, coming from the front of the palace. Someone was shouting.I stood so fast I knocked over the small wooden stool beside me. My pulse thundered in my chest, a knot of unease and curiosity tightening inside me. Who could be causing such a commotion at this hour, at the gates of the palace?I tugged my shawl closer and dashed toward the noise, my bare feet tapping against the marble floor. As I descended the spiraling staircase, the shouts grew clearer. Then, as I reached the bottom and stepped into the grand entry hall—I saw him.Kaidan.He stood just beyond the main gates, fac

Aurora.I’d long since lost track of the days. It might’ve been a week. Maybe two. Possibly more. Time didn’t move the same way down here, where the sun didn’t shine and the world felt suspended in endless twilight. Each hour bled into the next until I wasn’t sure whether I was dreaming or slipping into some quiet kind of insanity. My stomach twisted, not just from the gnawing emptiness, but from that ever-present fear: that Ivy had forgotten me. Or worse, had chosen to. I hugged my knees close, arms wrapped around my legs as if I could shield myself from everything, including the slow collapse of my own body. My limbs ached. My skin felt paper-thin over bone. She’d decreed I be given food every other day. Barely enough to live. Plenty enough to suffer.Across the cell, I heard movement. A faint rustle in the shadows.“Mother?” I called softly.A cough answered me.“Lady calantha…” I crawled over to the crumpled figure. “Are you awake?”Her eyes flicked open, dull and deeply sunken, b

Alpha Ellison. It took longer than I cared to admit to match her composure. I was caught in a fog of disbelief. Was this truly the same Omega I'd once chosen to carry my legacy? I couldn’t stop staring. Goddess, she'd transformed in ways I hadn't fully realized. But then again, so had I.“I don’t want you doing this again,” I said tightly, my voice rough around the edges. She turned her back to me, fingers trailing along the clothes hanging in the wardrobe.“It’s far too dangerous,” I added. She spun around, her eyes flashing with urgency. “Ellison, if you help me, we can handle it together. We can—”She cut herself off, inhaling slowly and straightening her spine. “Fine. What about all of this, then?”“I’ll get everything over to Town Hill,” I replied, steel settling into my tone.A spark lit in her eyes. She smiled brightly. “I knew I could count on you!”“I’ll bring a few men tonight,” I added.“I’ll let Ella know,” she said quickly. Seeing my reaction, she continued, “She’s alread

Alpha Ellison. What did she want this time? Was she deliberately trying to mess with my head?It had been three weeks since I last saw Lucy, three long weeks since our charged conversation on her father's balcony. From that moment, I had gone straight to my men, organized the mission, and we pulled off a daring rescue of the rebel scheduled for execution the next day. Of course, that meant riling up the local authorities again, and infuriating General Marcus in the process.Even with all the time that had passed, I couldn’t shake the memory of that night, or her words.“I’m braver than you,” she’d whispered, her face glowing in the moonlight, eyes wet with emotion. “I’m not scared to admit it. I still care for you, Ellison.”Her confession haunted me. I refused to believe she meant it. It couldn’t be real. I reminded myself brutally, that she had walked away from me without a second glance, hadn’t even bothered to say goodbye the day she dropped off the kids. I’d waited, bitter and br
