Aurora.

I was already tired, but then I kept walking. As we got closer to the prison, the wind carried the smell of burnt ash and rusty metal. This wasn't just a prison, it felt like a monster made of stone and steel, breathing out fear with every breeze that blew through its iron bars. I pulled my cloak tighter and looked at the girl walking beside me. Her face gave nothing away, like it had been carved from stone, and her eyes were locked straight ahead.

“So…” I said, my voice cracking a little. “What’s your name?”

She didn’t slow down. “Names don’t matter. We’re not here to make friends.”

I frowned. “That’s not really what I meant—”

“We’re only working together for now,” she interrupted sharply. “Once we’re inside, we go our own ways.”

Inside. As if getting inside would be easy.

“And how do you expect us to get in?” I asked, my voice full of doubt. “It’s not like they recruit prisoners.”

“There’s always a way,” she said smoothly. The corners of her mouth twitched into a slight smir

Lucy.My breath snagged in my chest. There they were plastered across the walls, scattered over lunch trays, passed around like sick collectibles. Images. My images.A shriek of laughter sliced through the thick tension in the air. I whipped my head around. Riven.I didn’t register moving. One second, I was rooted to the spot, heart hammering in my ears. The next, I was across the room. My fingers tangled in her hair, jerking her back with such force she let out a scream that bounced off every wall.“You think this is a joke?” I growled, slamming her head onto the table’s edge. “You think you’re the only one allowed to lose it?”The cafeteria erupted into chaos.Riven shrieked, flailing, kicking, clawing but all I could see was red. Blistering, blinding red. I dragged her down and threw punches hard, fast, vicious. My fists found skin, cartilage, anything that dared exist between her and my fury. The others scattered, stepping back fast, some too terrified to interfere, others mutteri

Lucy. There are days in prison that all feel the same, dull mornings, silent meals, the air always thick and stale. But today didn’t blend in like the others.Today felt different. Suffocating.I sat on the floor of my cell, holding the pack lock and documents tight against my chest, like they could protect me. My fingers shook as I gripped the edges of the papers. These were enough to bring Ivy down. Alpha Ellison would make her pay. He had better get the job done, because if I do it myself, even the moon goddess will be shocked. But I had no idea how to get it into his hands, or what he would even do with it once he had it.I wasn’t good at plans. I wasn’t strong or brave. I was just a girl, broken in too many places, with no one left to count on.“What am I even supposed to do with this?” I whispered into the quiet room. There was no answer, of course.By lunchtime, the tight feeling in my chest still hadn’t gone. I limped toward the cafeteria, my leg aching from the collapse. I th

LucyThe ground groaned like something deep under it was dying. At first, I thought I was imagining it—a low rumble crawling up my back. But then the floor moved again, harder this time, and dust began falling from the crumbling ceiling of the old underground library.“What the hell—” Thorne began. Then the entire place shook.Books fell from weak, bending shelves, and part of the wall split open with a loud, awful creak.“No,” I whispered. My eyes shot to Aurora, lying half-conscious on the freezing floor. Sweat clung to her hair, her body still and limp after giving birth to the twins. I had the babies in my arms—warm, wiggling, completely unaware of the danger all around us.“We need to get out. Now!” I shouted.“Liz, grab her legs! Thorne, hold up her back!”They didn’t wait. Liz moved like a machine—quick, calm, and silent. She didn’t look that strong, but you’d never guess it by how easily she supported Aurora’s weight. Thorne grumbled a curse but leaned down, lifting one of Aur

Aurora.I could tell she meant what she said. Liz wasn’t the type to throw away her life for anyone, not even me. I gasped and bent over, clutching my belly like I could calm the storm that was raging inside me. The babies weren’t letting up. Sweat was sticking to my forehead, and I was breathing like I’d just run a marathon.“Liz,” I whimpered, trying to sound braver than I felt. “They’re not stopping. I really can’t—”“Keep moving,” Liz snapped. Her voice wasn’t cold, just urgent. She pulled me closer, taking more of my weight on her shoulder. “You better tell those babies to stay in there. They’re getting close, and if they catch up, I’m leaving you.”I didn’t have to ask who she meant.I glanced toward the end of the hallway. I could hear the boots—loud and steady, like a warning bell. I saw the shine of guns and the dark clothes. Liz had warned me: If they catch us, they’ll shoot. My throat tightened. I made myself move. One foot in front of the other. The fear in me bubbled like

Aurora. Two days. That’s how long I’d been stuck in this filthy place, and still no sign of Lucy.I leaned back against the freezing wall of my cell, hands resting on my swollen stomach. The twins were still for the moment, thank the moon goddess but my thoughts were racing. I’d come into this prison full of determination, ready to do whatever it took. But now… that fire was starting to fade. The walls all looked exactly the same. Every hallway seemed to lead nowhere. I’d studied people’s faces, listened in on quiet conversations, and watched the guards’ movements carefully like a predator waiting to strike but nothing. Not even a whisper about where Lucy might be.Had I made a terrible mistake? Was sneaking into this prison pretending to be someone else brave or just plain stupid?“Get a grip,” I mumbled, pressing my fingers to my temple. “You didn’t fight your way in here just to sit around feeling sorry for yourself.”A sudden sharp pain hit low in my belly, making me wince. “Okay,

Lucy.I slammed the cell door shut behind me. The loud clang didn’t make me feel any safer. Lately, nothing did.I was still damp from the bath, the cold water clinging to my skin. But the shame and anger I felt were much worse — hotter than fire. My legs were weak and shaky as I stood in the middle of the cell. My fists were clenched tight, my jaw locked, and my heart pounded so hard I could hear it in my ears.Riven had taken pictures of me. While I was bathing. When I was completely vulnerable. And the worst part? She got away with it.She always got away with things like that.My knees buckled, and I collapsed to the floor, leaning against the wall. My breathing turned into short, jagged gasps. I felt like I was about to break, like something inside me was about to snap wide open. And then I did break.I cried. Harder than I had since I got thrown into this place. Not the quiet, hidden tears I shed on that first night, curled under that rough, thin blanket. No. This was different.
