Lucy

I didn’t have a choice.

The air around us felt like it was ready to explode, almost trembling, like even the atmosphere knew what was about to happen. My legs were about to buckle under Riven’s weight, and the hallway ahead of us was packed with screaming, terrified people. The light from the moon even found its way through the cracked walls, following us like a silent judge, touching our skin as if trying to decide who deserved mercy.

My heart raced in my chest. The crowd wasn’t moving quickly enough. Neither were we.

I shut my eyes.

And let the change take over.

It surged through me like wildfire. My bones shifted, stretched, and bent in ways they weren’t supposed to. I gasped, it was the last breath I’d take as a human, for now. It hurt. My muscles burned like they were on fire. My chest felt like it had been torn wide open. Then suddenly, everything changed colors, smells, even fear itself became something new.

The wolf was me.

For the first time ever, I fully became her. I w

Lucy.Blood oozed from my fingertips as I gazed at the fallen forms of Riven and her girls, lifeless, lying in pools of blood. The air around me had become unnervingly still, as if the entire world was holding its breath, waiting to see what would come next.Thorne faced me, a cold smile tugging at his lips, his sword dripping with the blood of those who once stood by my side.I didn’t hesitate. I didn’t even breathe.I acted.A fierce growl erupted from deep inside me as I hurled myself toward him as a wild, furious force unleashed. My body contorted midair; bones cracked and shifted, thick fur bursting through my skin. The wolf emerged.I slammed into Thorne’s men first. Two charged to block my path. The first was a hulking wolf with smoky gray fur and piercing gold eyes.quicker than he appeared. He lunged at my throat, claws extended, but I ducked beneath his attack and rammed my shoulder into his ribs. He yelped as we hit the ground, but before he could regain his footing, I clamp

Lucy.“We need to leave. Right now! What are you even doing?” I barked at Riven, my voice was filled with panic. I grabbed her arm, trying to pull her with me, but she stood rooted to the spot. Her attention was still locked on the crowd, the inmates, shouting and chanting so loudly it felt like the building itself was trembling.Riven shook her head, eyes defiant. “You’re not thinking clearly, Lucy. This is our opportunity. If people are being let out, if this many are shouting back it means someone’s paying attention. We have to be part of it. Push harder. That’s how we get out. Running now is suicide.”“No!” I cut in, stepping directly in front of her and gripping her shoulders. “Riven, you’re not hearing me. This isn’t what it seems. It’s staged. Thorne is at the front of it, Riven. You know he’s with the officers. He’s never cared about freedom. He’s leading us like cattle into a trap.”Behind her, a few of the women scoffed. One rolled her eyes. “You’re just paranoid.”“Or terri

Lucy. The smell of blood was everywhere when Riven reached out her hand to me. Her fingers were covered in someone else’s blood. I stared at her hand for a few seconds too long, and I was caught between fear and the desperate need to stay alive.“You want to survive the full moon?” she said in a low, steady voice that sounded both dark and calm. “You’re going to need more than courage. You need a crew.”I paused. I didn’t trust her. Honestly, I didn’t think anyone in this hellhole could be trusted. But one thing was clear the full moon was coming, and I wouldn't stand a chance alone.I grabbed her hand.“Smart move,” Riven muttered. “Let’s go.”Not even a second later, chaos broke out again. A chair scraped loudly across the floor. Someone screamed then bodies came charging at us. Other inmates, eyes wide and wild, were swinging fists or stabbing with whatever they could get their hands on. One had a rusted pipe. Another waved a fork like a weapon.Riven pulled me forward hard. “They’

LucyThe door slammed shut behind me with a familiar clang. I barely flinched anymore. After how long weeks, probably? I wasn’t sure. Time had melted into a dull haze. What hadn’t dulled was the sharp sting of betrayal lodged in my chest, relentless and raw like an old scar torn open.Thorne.I stood in the middle of the small cell, staring at the fractured concrete wall where a long, uneven crack cut downward like a scar the building itself couldn’t hide. My fists clenched at my sides. I had given him my trust. I believed in him. We’d spent countless hours mapping out our escape, dreaming of freedom beyond these walls. Hell, I even planned to promote him in the pack after we got out. And now?Now I knew he’d been feeding information to the pack officers behind my back.He was going to betray me. Sell me out.“I’m not sticking around to get collared,” I muttered under my breath as I paced the floor. “I’ve got no excuse good enough for my kids if I die in this place.”There wasn’t much

LucySomething wasn’t right with me.The moment I woke up, I could feel it, an ache deep in my bones, a feverish heat crawling over my skin, every muscle twitching uncontrollably. At first, I blamed it on sheer exhaustion. My body was still healing from the beating I took during that fight with Riven, and the guards had only worsened their treatment after the mess with Ellison. But by midday, the pain had escalated beyond anything I could ignore. It felt like fire had taken root in my spine, spreading out like molten metal across my back and wrapping around my ribs. I clung to the cold wall of my cell, breath coming in ragged gasps as I tried not to scream. My fingers shook violently as I gripped the bars. My skin—gods, it was glowing. A faint red pulse shimmered under the surface, like a furnace trying to break through my flesh.“Damn it,” I gasped.Of course. The full moon.I hadn’t gone through a proper shift since I’d been locked in this hellhole, and now the moon’s pull was clawi
