Chapter 9

Christina blamed herself when she recalled that she had lied to Travis. There was no explanation for him.

She was not a good mother, and Travis had never met his father ever since he was a child. Even if she gave him more motherly love, it was still not enough to fill the lack of love from a father.

Christina thought of finding another man, but it was hard for a mother with a child to find a partner, and she was unwilling to settle down casually, so she kept on pushing the matter.

She was ready to get her uncle after this business trip when her job was stable. Later, she would go for a blind date to find a father for Travis when all of her family members had settled down.

Christina never imagined that her impulse would have cost her the job.

“Mommy take your time. There’s no need to hurry.” Travis comforted Christina on the other side of the phone.

Christina’s eyes became sore, and tears almost fell from her eyes. The more obedient her son was, the more uncomfortable she felt, and she thought that she owed her son.

“Good boy, you must listen to Uncle Sean. Mommy will be back soon.”

“Okay, I’m very well behaved. Uncle Sean says it’s not good to eat ice cream at night, so I didn’t eat ice cream.”

“Good boy!”

Sean’s voice came from the other side of the phone, “Travis, it’s midnight over there. Let your mommy sleep, okay?”

Travis murmured, “But I miss mommy!”

Sean smiled softly and said, “Travis, you just said you would listen to me!”

“Okay, then. Mommy go get some rest, find daddy when you wake up.”

“Alright, mommy will find the best daddy for Travis!” Christina comforted him.

Travis said goodbye to his mother and passed the phone to Sean. “Christina, are we disturbing your bedtime?”

“Not at all. I just woke up and wanted to have some water.”

“Insomnia? Or is your work too stressful?” Sean advised her, “Come back if you’re too tired. I’ll be waiting for you here.”

“Sean, actually I…” Christina was halfway through, and she sighed heavily.

“What’s the matter, Christina?”

“Well, nothing.”

She did not know how to explain to Sean that she had resigned from her job, and she even slapped Matthew. The job that was introduced by Sean to her was a gone case now, and she might even drag him down.

After she hung up, she lay in her bed and dozed off rather quickly.

Christina did not dream of anything, and there were no calls from Matthew, either. She was asleep until the next day afternoon.

Francis was sitting on the couch in the living room when Christina walked out of her bedroom, and his face was sulky. “Christina, we might have to move out.”

Christina was shocked. “Why?”

“A developer bought this land, and they’re planning to rebuild it into a huge shopping mall. The notice is on the gate of the complex.”

Francis sighed. “I’m such a useless person. I have to make you go through all this. I’ve no cash in my hands, and my subsidies are not enough to buy us a new house.”

Christina shook her head. “Please don’t say that, Uncle Francis. It’s my fault. I’m the one who’s letting you down all these years.”

She had sworn before that she would give her uncle a good life. However, in the end, she was reckless and did not care to listen to her uncle. She had married Michael.

The Larson family had regarded Christina as a social climber because she had no family background. Moreover, she was unmatched in their social status, and she did not deserve to be with Michael.

They thought she had nothing but a pretty face.

Michael’s mother was disgusted with Christina, and she never looked good during their marriage. She was always picking on her after their marriage, and she even humiliated Francis a few times.

Although her uncle was broke, he was bold. For so many years, he did not step foot into the Larson family and ask them for money.

After Christina divorced her husband, she left the marriage without anything, not a single penny, and she went to her uncle. Coincidently, her uncle was also laid off at that moment.

Her uncle had no academic knowledge, and he could only work odd jobs. Thus, he went to the construction site nearby to make some money so that he could feed Christina.

She felt unpleasant when she saw her uncle suffer, so she went out to find a job. However, when people heard that she was an abandoned woman who was chased out by the Larson family, no one wanted to hire her.

Luckily, she met Sean when she was in her most desperate hour.

Christina sighed when she thought of how Sean had helped her all these years, and she understood Sean’s intention, too.

However, the Young family was distinguished. An ordinary person would stand no chance, not to mention that she was an abandoned pregnant woman that was chased out from their family by her husband.

Even if Sean was willing to marry her, the Youngs would not agree to it. Since Sean was kind to her, she did not want to make his life hard.

Sean was competing as the heir of their family, and there were forces in his family that would jump at the chance. Hence, she could not burden him at this timing.

Christina got the job from Sean, and she hated Matthew. Hence, she had no choice but to rely on herself to survive and learn how to earn a living.

Matthew was a pervert and having tons of pretty ladies surround him was one thing. He was very generous, and he had offered her an attractive amount of money.

It was only some scolding, and she would suffer just a little. It would be a no-lose situation for her, and that was why she persisted.

Now, Matthew had the intention to chase after her, too, and she knew that he would not let her off his hook so easily. Thus, Christina had to resign to make sure that she got away from him completely.

Her uncle’s house was about to be demolished, and she was jobless, so she had to find a new job as soon as possible.

Christina had a simple breakfast, then she took her handbag and went out.

When she was out of the alley, she saw there was a bus leaving the bus station from a distance. Hence, she bolted toward it. “Hey, wait a minute!”

Christina was rushing, and she did not notice there was a car driving toward her from afar.

Screech –

The red car caused a gust of wind coupled with the ear-piercing sound of the brakes came to her ears as the car stopped only ten centimeters away from her legs.

Just by a little!

Christina’s legs were weak and she was shaking there. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t do it on purpose…”

The woman got out of the car, and she was about to scold Christina, but suddenly, her gaze was stiffened. “Wait, Christina?”
